In all honesty, I liked the first FMA anime plot much more than the manga/brotherhood's.
My favorite anime so far were:

Neon Genesis Eva. - Shinji is a completely disdainful character. However well he is portrayed.
Rebuild Series - Shinji is probably the greatest character.

I'm very torn.

I haven't been watching many recently but I have to definitely recommend everyone to watch Steins;Gate, it's by far the best anime I've seen

Some other anime that I've watched are Elfen Lied, Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, Shokugeki no Sama, Ro-Kyu-Bu!, Neon Genesis Evangelion (even though I think the Rebuild of Evangelion is soooo much better) and so many more e.e

All those are in the list I think. One that isn't is ChäoS;HEAd. It's by the same franchise as Steins;Gate and part of the same anime series (Science Adventure series). It's not directly related to Steins;Gate, its just part of the adventures related to science. Steins;Gate is "hypothetical science adventure" and ChäoS;HEAd is described as a "delusional science adventure". There's also another called Robotics;Notes which is a "augmented science adventure" that involves mecha :3. They're all originally visual novel games but they've been adapted to anime. Sequels to both ChäoS;HEAd and Steins;Gate are out in Japan and the anime adaptations are in production. Sequels are ChäoS;Child and Steins;Gate 0 respectively.
These two are by far my favourite and you can definitely tell by this chunk of text I wrote on them

 

My current all time favorites are Bleach, Akame Ga Kill, Hunter X Hunter, Gansta., Samurai Champloo and ONE PUNCH MAN!!

The Winter 2016 Anime Season has a decent lineup. I don't think there's any strong "anime of the year" contenders for the season, nothing really stands out to me. However, the fantasy and romance genres are definitely at the top of their game for this season. I highly recommend this anime season for beginners. It's a good warm up for what's coming in the spring.
