Warning: this is very detailed, very wordy, and very nerdy.

    Foreword
[ELEMENTS] = everything you need to satisfy for it to be considered an offense

[PRECEDENTS] = decisions we've made in the past, that we will consider when we decide if something is an offense or not (PROVIDED you meet all the elements)

    1.1 Illegal Activities
    Precedents:
    • Sharing child pornography = IS illegal activity
    • Launching cyber attacks (eg. DDoS) against MapleLegends = IS illegal activity
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Reason: Illegal activities in the real world, that are criminal in nature (felonies and misdemeanours), if done on our services will result in a permanent ban. Additionally, any unlawful activities launched against our services (cyber attacks) will also be covered in this clause.

    1.2 Solicitation
    Precedents: Miscellaneous
    • Asking others for anything financial/commercial/irl $ related, using our discord server, forums or in-game = IS solicitation
    • Asking others to buy your real life products for money (including art) = IS solicitation
    • Asking other people to buy your art for mesos (not using forums) = IS solicitation & real world trading
    • Asking others to buy your art for mesos (on the forums) = IS NOT solicitation
    • Asking others for nudes, using our discord server, forums, or in-game = IS solicitation
    • Asking people in-game for mesos = IS NOT solicitation
    • Asking people to buy your MapleLegends items for MapleLegends mesos = IS NOT solicitation
    Precedents: MapleStory servers
    • Asking others to join other MapleStory servers = IS solicitation
    • Saying Y server is better than MapleLegends in our discord server or in-game = IS solicitation
      • Even if you think this, please don't use OUR platform to say this
    • Saying an upcoming Y server is going to be so great in our discord server or in-game = IS solicitation
    • Saying MapleLegends is better than Y server for a list of reasons = IS NOT solicitation
    Precedents: Streaming
    • Asking people to watch your stream in-game (eg. via megaphone) = IS NOT solicitation
    • Having a giveaway on twitch for viewers, follows, or subscribers = IS solicitation & real world trading
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Reason: MapleLegends is both a community and a platform. Solicitation divides the community and is disrespectful to both members of the community and the people that help keep it running. Using the platform for your own financial gain, or helping other servers benefit is extremely frowned upon (hence the permanent ban).

    1.3 Real World Trading/Unofficial Commerce
Elements Required for a RWT Ban
    1. An attempt to engage in OR succeeding in real world trading/unofficial commerce, which is define as:
      • The incorporation or exchange of non-MapleLegends goods, services, and activities FOR MapleLegends goods, services, and activities
    2. "Beyond reasonable doubt" standard of proof (allegations alone will not result in a ban)
    3. Not restricted to our platform (in-game, on our forums, or on our discord), as long as there was an ATTEMPT (regardless of success) to real world trade based on MapleLegends currency/item/services

    Precedents:
    • Whispering someone asking if they take paypal/would sell something for money = IS solicitation and/or attempt of real world trading
    • Selling/buying/attempting to sell/attempting to buy/joking about selling MapleLegends items for other game items (not MapleStory) = IS real world trading
    • Selling/buying/attempting to sell/attempting to buy/joking about selling MapleLegends items for other MapleStory servers (including Neckson's MapleStory) = IS real world trading
    • Selling/buying/attempting to sell/attempting to buy/joking about selling MapleLegends items for cash = IS real world trading
    • Selling accounts = IS real world trading
    • Promoting real world trading to other people = IS solicitation & real world trading
    • Asking other people to buy your art for mesos (not using forums) = IS solicitation & real world trading
    • Having a giveaway on twitch for viewers, follows, or subscribers = IS solicitation & real world trading
    • Gambling on a third party platform (not on our platform - in-game or on discord) and betting mesos = IS real world trading
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Reason: MapleLegends is has a very strict stance on real world trading. It ruins the game, ruins player experience, ruins the server, and overall has a negative impact on everything.

We highly discourage players from joking about RWT. We have a zero-tolerance stance because a lot of actual RWTers often try to use that as an excuse to get a "second chance". This is one of the things MapleLegends takes absolutely seriously. Please understand ^^

Also note that our bans aren't done with mere suspicion, it is done with countless hours of investigation. While we can't reveal our methods, we can guarantee that bans are only done based on a "beyond reasonable doubt" standard of evidence.

    1.4 Chargeback Fraud
    Precedents:
    • Donating, receiving the donor NX, then cancelling the payment = IS chargeback fraud
Reason: Outright illegal in certain jurisdictions and hence we will report it to relevant government authorities if you do this.

    2.1-3 Hacking & Packet Editing/Sniffing & WZ Editing
    Precedents:
    • Using a program or tool that messes with our game/services = IS hacking
    • Altering our files that messes with our game/services = IS bannable WZ editing
    • Remapping keys does not interfere with our game/services so = IS NOT hacking (see botting for more info however)
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Reason: MapleLegends tries to our utmost to ensure that everyone has a level playing field, which is also why we crackdown so heavily on RWT. Your progress in the game should be accomplished through in-game means only. Using ANY external programs (hacking, packet editing/sniffing, wz editing) that gives yourself an unfair advantage is a complete disregard for our principles and objectives. Any form of this will get you permanently banned, and you no longer be welcome on our services. With no exceptions.

    2.4 Duping
    Precedents:
    • Accidentally duping an item and reporting it to GMs = IS NOT bannable duping
    • Accidentally duping an item, reporting it to the GMs, but using it and/or gaining any advantage from it = IS duping
      • If a GM hasn't retrieved a duped item from you, please DO NOT use it or gain any advantage from it, please just wait patiently
    • Accidentally duping an item and not reporting it to GMs = IS duping
    • Intentionally duping an item and not reporting it to GMs = IS duping
    • Intentionally duping an item in any form besides to demonstrate a bug to a GM (immediately thereafter) = IS duping
      • If you do intentionally dupe to demonstrate a bug, please contact a GM before you do so. Any unnecessary lapse in time will be used as evidence against you.
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Reason: Much like our stance on RWT and hacking, MapleLegends tries our outmost to ensure everyone has a level playing field. Your progress in the game should be accomplished through legitimate in-game means, and duping is a direct violation of that. Duping will result in you being permanently banned, and you will be no longer welcome on our services.

    2.5 Bug/Glitch Abuse
    Precedents:
    • Accidentally causing a bug or a glitch and reporting it to the GMs = IS NOT bug/glitch abuse
    • Demonstrating the bug/glitch to a GM = IS NOT bug/glitch abuse
      • GM must be present, or notified before the demonstration, or notified directly after with video proof.
      • Any unnecessary lapse in time will be used as evidence against you.
    • Accidentally causing a bug or a glitch, reporting it to the GMs, but using it and/or gaining any advantage from it (that is beyond a reasonable period of time) = IS bug/glitch abuse
      • Reporting it alone does not clear you of wrongdoing, what is important is that you DO NOT obtain an prolonged advantage from it
      • (Eg) Should your Battleship become unbreakable during a boss run, you aren't expected to log out immediately, HOWEVER you should relog as soon as possible (after your boss run)
      • There is an exception made with aggro glitches/freezes (see boss freeze abuse later)
    • Gaining any advantage from a bug/glitch = IS bug/glitch abuse
    • Repeatedly using a bug/glitch = IS bug/glitch abuse
    • Not reporting a bug/glitch and using it = IS bug/glitch abuse
    • Spreading the information of the bug/glitch to other players (and not the GMs) = IS bug/glitch abuse
    • If you aren't sure if something is a bug/glitch, please contact the GMs first
    Exceptions:
    • The following are "bugs" that are currently regarded as "accepted features" of the game, that are pending fixes (you will NOT be banned using these):
      • Shadow Star exploit to prolong the use of one of your stars (having only one set of Balanced Furies, but using SS to use it multiple times)
      • [Fixed] Speed Infusion exploit whereby mages are able to benefit from Speed Infusion, even though they shouldn't
      • [Fixed] Hurricane exploit whereby BMs can continuously hurricane
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Reason: Bugs and glitches happen in any game. While we try our best to find and fix everything promptly, it often requires the players to report them to us first. While this process happens, we expect all players to not exploit the bug/glitch, and wait for us to fix it. As such, if one person takes advantage of it while everyone else doesn't, it once again produces an unfair advantage that wasn't intended, or in any ways legitimate.

As this isn't a black and white matter, staff discretion CAN be applied. Doesn't necessarily mean it will, however.

    2.6 Ban Evasion
    Precedents:
    • Getting permanently banned and still accessing our server = IS ban evasion
    • Getting account banned and logging into another account (that isn't banned) = IS NOT ban evasion
    • Using a throw away account to intentionally commit a wrongdoing, and thereby avoiding a ban on your main account = IS ban evasion
      • Examples include using a megaphone (smega) to send hateful or discriminatory messages from a smega mule
    • Using a smega on another character when you are smega muted on another = IS NOT ban evasion (by itself)
    • Using a smega on another character (to do the exact thing you were smegamuted for), when smega muted on another = IS ban evasion
    • Somehow using a loophole to continue to access a banned account = IS ban evasion
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Reason: If you were banned, there is a good reason you were banned, so please serve out the remainder of your punishment. If you believe you were wrongfully banned, we urge you to go through the appeal process and not commit ban evasion.

    2.6 Account Sharing
Elements Required for an Account Sharing Ban
    1. Another player to have access to your account in ONE of the following ways:
      • Knowing your login details (ID, password, and/or pin); or
      • Controlling your character; or
      • Another player's character AND your character being (A) logged onto the same device, (B) and at the same time
    2. The intent does not matter, as long as any of the above is satisfied
    3. "Beyond reasonable doubt" standard of proof (allegations alone will not result in a ban)

    Precedents: General Account Sharing
    • Sharing your login details (ID, password, and/or pin) = IS account sharing
    • Having another person play/log into your account (without knowing your login details) = IS account sharing
    • Using teamviewer to control another player's account = IS account sharing
    • Having two accounts (one owned by you & one owned by another person) logged in on the same computer, AT THE SAME TIME = IS account sharing
    • Making an account for another person to play = IS account sharing (please let them make their own account)
    • One person owning multiple accounts (you must be the ONLY owner/controller of the accounts) = IS NOT account sharing
    • Multiple people logging in from the same house = IS NOT account sharing
    • Logging in from the same computer (at different times) = IS NOT account sharing
    • Logging in from different IP addresses (because of traveling or using VPNs) = IS NOT account sharing
Precedents: Account Sharing and Other Violations
    • If you share your account with someone, and they commit an offense on the account = BOTH players will face the same punishment
    • If you share your account with someone, and they commit a severe offense (account ban or permanent ban) on their account = you will still be given the same punishment (even if you weren't involved)
    • This applies for permanent bans, and both IP addresses will be blocked from accessing our servers

Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Note 2: Depending on the severity of the violation, it may be escalated to Major Abuse, which has harsher punishments.

Reason: Each character should be owned by one person. Having 10 people play on one account makes in-game progress much easier. Once again, MapleLegends strongly believes that everyone should progress equally with no unfair advantage acquired by any specific player or (in this case) groups of players.

    2.8 Paperweight Botting
    Precedents: General
    • Using any object (eg. stapler) to hold down a key = IS paperweight botting
    • Using any mechanism (exceptions apply to prosthetics) to input a single keystroke = IS paperweight botting
    • Using any third party program to hold down a single key repeatedly = IS paperweight botting
    Precedents: Controllers
    • Using a third party program to use a controller instead of a keyboard = IS NOT paperweight botting
    • Using a controller and taping down the joystick/button = IS paperweight botting
    • Using a controller with a button that repeats the same keystroke (eg. via toggle, configuration software, or other third party software) = IS NOT paperweight botting, but IS general botting
    Precedents: Client
    • Intentionally glitching the client so you continue to attack without having to press a button = IS paperweight botting
      • Glitching out your client to hurricane non-stop = IS NOT paperweight botting (see list of 'bug exceptions')
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Note 2: Depending on the severity of the violation, it may be escalated to Major Abuse, which has harsher punishments.

Reason: Paperweight botting makes the MapleStory experience and grinding too easy. Progress no longer becomes about the time and effort you spent getting to where you are, but rather how long you were able to keep a stapler on your keyboard. Based on that line of reasoning, we don't condone paperweight botting.

    2.9 General Botting
    Definitions
    1. A script or a macro is defined as a program that allows you to make multiple inputs with one single input
      • (Eg) Pressing "space" on your keyboard, but rather than just jumping you "walk right" + "jump" + "attack"
    2. Remapping is just changing the key/button that needs to be pressed for a single input
      • (Eg) Changing it so that when you press key "1", you type/use "Q"

    Precedents:
    • Using any third-party program (including keyboard software) to setup and use a macro = IS general botting
    • Using an auto-clicker = IS general botting
    • Using a script to help you grind (or grind for you) = IS general botting
    • Using a controller with a button that repeats the same keystroke (eg. via toggle, configuration software, or other third party software) = IS general botting
    • Using keyboard or mouse software to remap your keys = IS NOT general botting
    • Opening the skill window and binding three skills and using the in-game macro = IS NOT general botting
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Note 2: Depending on the severity of the violation, it may be escalated to Major Abuse, which has harsher punishments.

Reason: While paperweight botting makes the MapleStory experience and grinding too easy, general botting completely undermines it. General botting is the more complex form and rather than repeating one single keystroke, it has the potential to automate a whole series of actions. At which point, the game isn't even being played, but rather exploited. It is often times used by hackers and real world traders.

While not all macros and scripts are harmful, it is a slippery slope, with dangerous implications. Hence why all macros and scripts are not allowed on MapleLegends.

    2.10 Association with Abusers
    Precedents:
    • Being in the same party as an abuser (eg. botting, hacking, aggro abuse, bug/glitch exploit) = IS association
    • Encouraging someone to abuse = IS association
    • Trying to hide someone else's abuse = IS association
      • Not every abuse needs to be reported (exceptions listed below), but if there were active efforts to interfere/prevent GM investigation = IS association
      • Not reporting aggro abuse while in the same party/run = IS association
      • Not reporting aggro abuse you heard about = IS NOT association
      • Not reporting harassment of another player = IS NOT association
      • Not reporting griefing = IS NOT association
    • Benefiting in anyway from someone else's abuse = IS association
      • If you have reasonable grounds to suspect someone is abusing (even if you didn't 100% know) and still benefited from it = IS association
      • Using a duped item, knowing it is duped = IS association
      • Using a duped item, without knowing or having reasonable ground to believe it was duped = IS NOT association
        • (Eg) If a person loans you one of his 10 perfect weapons that are identical, there is reasonable ground to suspect it was duped
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Reason: The association with abusers clause is intentionally vague in wording, as the method of association usually differs based on the circumstances.

    2.11 Boss Freeze Abuse
Elements Required for a Boss Freeze Abuse Ban
    1. Needs to affect a boss OR a mob inside a boss map (expedition maps or area boss maps)
      • While the referred to as "boss freeze", the violation is not limited to the boss itself
    2. The monster (a boss or a mob as required in #1) must satisfy one of the following:
      • Stop casting ALL spells entirely (eg. map-wide magic attacks, summoning mobs) for a prolonged period of time;
        • Touch damage is not a spell, and therefore even if you are receiving touch damage, the monster will still be considered "frozen"
      • Cast targeted attacks (eg. seduce) or aggro (seeking or moving towards) onto an untargettable player (eg. via deaths) for a prolonged period of time; or
      • No longer move or do so in an abnormal manner for a prolonged period of time
    3. As well as one of the following:
      • Intentional behavior to cause/trigger the freeze;
      • Unintentionally causing the freeze, but not reporting it to the GM;
      • Being part of a party/expedition that triggers the freeze, knowing of the abuse, and without vocalizing disagreement; or
      • Being part of a party/expedition that triggers the freeze, knowing of the abuse, without reporting it to the GM

    Precedents:
    • Causing Alishar to just walk around and not cast spells entirely = IS abuse
    • Causing Ravana to not cast spells entirely = IS abuse
      • If Ravana continues to cast magic cancels and spawn summons = IS NOT abuse
    • Elderwraiths in Big Foot maps aggroed onto a dead player = IS abuse
    • Elderwratihs in Big Foot maps aggroed onto a player in dark sight (but still alive) = IS NOT abuse
    • Anego not moving or using any spells = IS boss freeze abuse
    • Mobs in the anego map not moving = IS boss freeze abuse
    • Anego not using one of its attacks = IS NOT boss freeze abuse
    • Nibergen not casting any spells for more than a couple of minutes = IS boss freeze abuse
      • The rule of thumb seems to be "is Nibergen casting weapon cancels?"
    • Vergamot not casting any spells = IS boss freeze abuse

    Precedents: Horntail
    • Holding Horntail's seduce aggro with a dead character throughout a significant portion of the run = IS boss freeze abuse
      • Reason: Horntail is being forced (unnaturally) to cast its targeted attack onto an untargetable character (and not attack)
    • Holding Wyvern aggro with a dead character throughout a significant portion of the run = IS boss freeze abuse
      • Reason: Wyverns are being forced to move to and try to damage a character that is untargetable

    Defining 'Significance'
    • What is considered a significant portion of the run? This will be handled on a case-by-case basis:
      • Not ressing until the full 10 minute timer = IS NOT significant and NOT boss freeze abuse
        • If done multiple times in the same run, with the dead player being someone with some type of aggro (eg. seduce or wyverns) = IS boss freeze abuse
      • Ressing multiple times to continue the freeze = IS boss freeze abuse
      • Intentionally having a dead character hold aggro when there is no chance res (as in will NEVER be able to be ressed during the run) all for the sake of preventing a certain spell being cast (eg. seduce) = IS boss freeze abuse
      • Remember, that all the elements earlier on NEED to be satisfied
Precedents: How to Properly Handle Freezes
    • If players send a @GM when the freeze is first noticed = IS NOT boss freeze abuse
      • As long as you send a @GM, regardless or not a GM is available to come and help fix the issue, it will NOT BE boss freeze abuse
    • If players send a @GM after benefiting from the freeze = IS boss freeze abuse
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Note 2: Depending on the severity of the violation, it may be escalated to Major Abuse, which has harsher punishments.

Reason: Boss freeze is a specific type of bug/glitch that has to do with the aggro of bosses and mobs. Engaging in it is much like bug/glitch abuse, and is not condoned by MapleLegends.

We understand that often times it may not be intentional and some new players might not know of these bugs. As such, the staff CAN exercise discretion and lower the punishment. However, these are for exceptional circumstances only.

    2.12 Major Abuse
    Precedents:
    • An offense might be classified as major abuse if done over a long-period of time
      • (Eg) Using someone else's account for 50% of total play time = IS major abuse account sharing
      • (Eg) Repeated account-bound offenses on various accounts = IS major abuse
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Reason: Just because someone was caught for the first time, shouldn't mean they should be treated the same as someone that had literally just done something wrong one time. When someone has been violating the rules extensively and/or severely, the staff WILL rely on the major abuse clause.

    2.13 Spamming
    Precedents:
    • Spamming buy/sell lines in Free Market = IS NOT spamming
    • Using a SMEGA to incite/encourage other people to spam = IS spamming
      • (Eg) Let's count to 100! = IS spamming
    • Using a SMEGA to repeatedly send similar messages in a short time frame = IS spamming
    • Using a SMEGA to have a public conversation (conversation meaning more than a couple of messages, but an repeated back-and-forth of messages) that can be done in private = IS spamming
    • Using a SMEGA to publicly accuse someone or call them out = IS spamming & harassment
    • Spamming clause is not limited to just SMEGAs
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Reason: Spamming messages, while not always harmful, can sometimes go overboard. Please do not abuse your SMEGA ability and cause a public nuisance. Often times, staff mute people at the request of other players, deeming that SMEGA spam is obnoxious, petty, or otherwise unnecessary.

Staff discretion CAN be applied for this, leading to lesser or harsher punishments depending on the circumstances.

2.14 Abuse of Terms of Services

    Precedent:
    • Looking for a loophole in the terms of services and trying to exploit loopholes, with malicious intent = IS abuse of ToS
    • Trying to avoid a ban based on "your interpretation of the ToS" = IS abuse of ToS
    • Misunderstanding the ToS = IS NOT abuse of ToS (but if you committed an offense, it isn't a valid defense either)
    • In instances where you feel there is a problem with the ToS, please approach a staff member and raise your concern (before undertaking any actions)
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Reason: Just because the ToS doesn't specify something, doesn't mean it isn't covered. The law, as mentioned in the foreword, is intentionally left vague so that loopholes aren't necessarily loopholes. Just because you think it's a loophole, doesn't mean it isn't covered by the ToS. On the off-chance it doesn't fall under it at all, please contact a GM!

    3.1 Staff Impersonation
    Precedent:
    • Impersonating a staff member by adding "GM/GameMaster/GameModerator" in your name = IS staff impersonation
    • Claiming to be a staff member, when you are not = IS staff impersonation
      • This applies regardless of the platform (in-game, forum, discord, etc)
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Reason: Staff members are important members of the community that go through a rigorous application process to become staff members. Claiming to be a staff member when you are not is an abuse of the staff title, and slandering of actual staff members. As such, impersonating staff members is a serious offense that we do not take lightly.

    3.2.1 General Scamming
Elements Required for General Scamming Ban
    1. An agreement between two or more parties, which consists of
      • (A) An offer by one party, and
      • (B) An explicit acceptance by the other (includes acceptance via action)
      • (Eg) For instant trades, pressing "trade" in a trade window will be marked as explicit acceptance
      • (Eg) For over time trades (eg. leeching, instalment payments, packages), starting the service/handing over the item will be marked as explicit acceptance
    2. The promise of something of value (eg. a service, item, or mesos)
    3. A failure to deliver on the originally agreed promise
    4. The deal itself does not have to occur on our platform, as long as the traded goods/service are related to MapleLegends
    5. No existence of extenuating circumstances, examples include:
      • Power outages
      • Disconnections
      • Technical issues

    Precedent:

    • Agreeing to sell 1 hour of leech for 10 mil mesos, and then only selling for 45 minutes = IS general scamming
    • Agreeing to buy 1 hour of leech for 10 mil mesos, and not paying up = IS general scamming
    • Loaning an equip and then selling the weapon, when it doesn't belong to you = IS general scamming
    • In cases where there has been no agreement = IS NOT general scamming
    • Alleging there was an agreement, where there was none and trying to force another party into delivering = IS general scamming
    • Changing the terms of the agreement, after there was an acceptance of the offer = IS general scamming
    • Advertising 1 hour of leech for 30 mil exp per hour, but it only being 28 mil exp per hour = IS NOT general scamming
      • A certain amount of leeway is granted for these matters
      • However, if it differs vastly, then it will be considered scamming
    • Advertising a 30-minute zakum helmet service, but it ending up as 45-minutes = IS NOT general scamming
    • Sending lower than market price offers = IS NOT general scamming
    • Any trade that occurs through a Hired Merchant = IS NOT general scamming
    • Not selling something at an "auto-win" price = IS NOT general scamming
      • "Auto-win" prices are guidelines for buyers to offer, sellers are not obligated to sell at that price
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Note 2: Depending on the severity of the violation, it may be escalated to Major Abuse, which has harsher punishments.

Note 3: Scamming is a player-to-player issue, and staff will try our best to mediate the situation if possible.

Reason: We expect all players to stay true to their promises, and especially when there is something materially/financially valuable on the line.

    3.2.2 Roll Scamming
Elements Required for Roll Scamming Ban
    1. An agreement between two or more parties, which consists of
      • (A) An offer by one party, and
      • (B) An explicit acceptance by the other (this can be verbal acceptance or acceptance via action)
    2. The promise of something of value (eg. a service, item, or mesos) depending on the outcome of a game of chance (associated with the 'RollRoll' command)
      • MapleLegends only monitors games of chance/gambling done on our platform (in-game or on discord)
      • Any other games of chance/gambling done on a third party site is categorized as REAL WORLD TRADING/OFFICIAL COMMERCE
      • Any betting or gambling of mesos MUST be done with in-game functions aka the 'RollRoll' command
    3. A failure to deliver on the promise
    4. If you are reporting someone for roll scamming PLEASE have video evidence, or else the claim will not be reviewed

    Precedent:

    • Losing a roll and logging off = IS roll scamming
    • Losing a roll and unintentionally disconnecting = IS NOT roll scamming
      • Unintentional DCs will be judged by the duration (usually given a few minutes of leeway)
      • If facing a prolonged network problem (aka. power went out), the player will need to present evidence that can corroborate this and/or try to reach out to the winner in the meantime
    • Unilaterally claiming a roll was a test roll = IS roll scamming
      • Test rolls must be agreed upon by both players to not count to the final outcome
    • Betting something you do not have = IS roll scamming
    • Changing the rules of the game after both parties have already agreed = IS roll scamming
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Note 2: Depending on the severity of the violation, it may be escalated to Major Abuse, which has harsher punishments.

Note 3: Staff is not liable to help recover any financial losses caused by roll scamming. All forms of gambling is done at the players OWN risk.

Reason: We expect all players to stay true to their promises, and especially when there is something materially/financially valuable on the line.

    3.3 Harassment
    Elements Required for Harassment Ban
    1. The existence of an offended party or when the subject matter is one that MapleLegends has zero-tolerance towards, an offended party does not necessarily need to exist, these zero-tolerance matters are limited to the following:
      • Racial or ethnic discrimination
      • Gender discrimination
      • Religious discrimination
      • Discrimination based on sexual orientation
    2. An action by another party, that a reasonable individual would consider as rude, hateful, abusive, threatening, accusatory, or otherwise objectionable
      • Intention of the offending player does not matter (even if it was meant as a joke), so long as it can be objectively perceived as rude, hateful, abusive, threatening, accusatory, or otherwise objectionable
    3. Done on a MapleLegends platform (in-game, discord, or forums)
      • If you are reporting someone for harassment PLEASE have uncropped screenshots

    Precedent:
    • Escalating a civil conversation (just a discussion) to one-sided swearing at the other party = IS harassment
    • Both players swearing and insulting each other = IS harassment (for both sides)
    • Threatening another player (with the exception of kicking out of the party, guild, buddy list) = IS harassment
    • Public accusals = IS harassment
    • SMEGA of any discriminatory comments = IS harassment
    • Having an offensive IGN = IS harassment
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Note 2: Depending on the severity of the violation, it may be escalated to Major Abuse, which has harsher punishments.

Reason: The most important element of harassment is the feelings of the offended party. Please treat others how you would want to be treated. "It was just a joke" or "a heated moment" isn't a defense against harassment claims, as we only look at the action & consequences.

    3.4 Griefing
    Elements Required for Griefing Ban
    1. An action that disrupts, obstructs, or sabotages another player's gameplay
      • To sabotage means to prevent a player from entirely accessing game content and making it incontestable (note that maps with @mapowner systems ARE contestable, expeditions once started ARE NOT contestable)
    2. An intent to disrupt, obstruct, or sabotage another player's gameplay
      • Intent can be easily ascertained when @mapowner asks the person to CC or check @mapowner
    3. If you are reporting someone for harassment PLEASE have uncropped screenshots

    Precedent:
    • Killing or attempting to kill monsters in a map that someone else has @mapowner to = IS griefing
      • Remember that the INTENT is important and will be assessed
    • Looting in a map that someone else has @mapowner to = IS griefing
    • Looting Monster Book cards in a map that someone else has @mapowner to = IS griefing
    • Killing another player = IS griefing
    • Filling an FM store with mules so other players can't access it = IS griefing
    • Entering a PQ with no intention of doing the PQ stage(s) = IS griefing
    • Entering someone else's expedition and summoning the boss intentionally = IS griefing
    • Starting an expedition and subsequently entering the boss map with no intention to kill the boss with the entered party = IS griefing
    • Starting the expedition sign up and not entering = IS NOT griefing
    • Holding a map when you have @mapowner = IS NOT griefing
    • Being in someone else's map by itself = IS NOT griefing
      • It CAN be griefing if being there prevents other members from entering the map or affects mob behavior/aggro
      • IF you were simply AFKing, you won't satisfy the intention element and IS NOT griefing, but a GM reserves the right to DC you in such cases
    • If you took someone else's @mapowner = IS NOT griefing
      • Mapowner can only be taken once the previous player's ownership EXPIRES, therefore if you can take it, then it was done properly
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Reason: We want all players to be able to experience the game and have the same quality of gameplay as all other players. As such, any intentional conduct to prevent other players from enjoying the game (eg. killing, looting, preventing others from entering a PQ or boss) is a bannable offense.

    3.5 False Reports
Elements Required for False Report Ban
    1. Presentation of evidence that is intended to mislead staff, such as the following but not limited to:
      • Fake screenshots
      • Selective cropping or positioning of screenshots
    2. Intention to get another player banned by use of lies or deceit (not applicable if related to a ban appeal)

    Precedent:
    • Reporting someone with a photoshopped screenshot = IS false reporting
    • Intentionally omitting details so that you seem innocent while the reported party alone seems guilty = IS false reporting
    • Intentionally lying or omitting details in a ban appeal (that we have evidence otherwise of) = IS false reporting
    • Forgetting to include details in a report or appeal = IS NOT false reporting
    • Reporting someone on a hunch or giving a tip to the staff = IS NOT false reporting
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Reason: Trying to get another player banned is malicious and is explicitly prohibited on MapleLegends. With any reports or appeals, please be truthful.

3.6 Misuse of @GM and Report Functions
    Precedents:
    • Spamming @GM command multiple times for the same issue = IS misuse
    • Opening multiple threads on the forums (eg. ban appeals or report abuse) when the content is identical = IS misuse
    • Any action that hinders the staff's ability to handle other player's issues = IS misuse
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Reason: The staff team tries our best to handle every issue, however the misuse of @GM, report, and ban appeal functions severely hinders our ability to effectively handle issues. For the same issue, please do not open a new ticket/thread and only comment further on the existing ticket/thread. We thank you in advance for your patience!

    3.7 Sharing Private Information
    Precedents:
    • Publicly announcing someone else's personal information in-game, forums, or our discord server = IS sharing private information
    • Sharing confidential player-to-staff or staff-to-player communications = IS sharing private information
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

Reason: Online privacy and security is crucial in cultivating a safe and enjoyable community. If you have access to someone's private information (eg. full name, home address, workplace, email address, phone number, social media accounts, etc.), please respectfully keep that information to yourself.

Pack it up BMs your afk hurricane has been DENIED

Wait how the fuck does this make any sense? So if a group is using a dex bucc as a sed they're free to leave the bucc dead for 9 minutes, but if they're using an attacker as sed and said attacker dies and next res is 6 minute away, the attacker should gtfo???

So what about entering an expedition and then summoning 10 minutes later?

Pretty interesting read, but the Boss Freeze section is truly some facepalm worthy stuff. I wish the standard would be to fix those "bugs" instead of coming up with a set of complicated rules and threatening to ban those who don't comply. Prime example of a "bug" being resolved properly is when sh0t fixed the HT arm aggros (so that you could no longer freeze 1 arm). Prior to the fix it was standard strategy to freeze 1 arm at all times. Staff made the right decision by not setting arbitrary rules that disallowed this, but rather waiting for a true solution. This should be the standard approach to solving boss freeze bugs.

So, if for example, Verga or nib stops attacking and the player @gms but no GMs replies for like 1hr. does this mean a player have to stop fighting it and just call quits since GMs aren't coming and it's a waste of time?

Made some clarifications about that, I didn't realize it could be interpreted that way :p

Not available to res was meant as in, there's no res thats going to come off cooldown or there's no bishop alive at all :p

As for expedition & summoning, depends on the remainder of the factors: "Starting an expedition and subsequently entering the boss map with no intention to kill the boss with the entered party"

Made some edits for clarification ^^

Our devs are hard at work and need to prioritize accordingly! Even if in-game solutions to fix aggro abuse will come in the future, they shouldn’t be abused by players in the meantime.

Just another friendly reminder to show extra love to our devs! They’re all players just like us but volunteer their playing time so the rest of us can have a better experience~

Rather than abusing it any further, can all dexbucc and luk HH mule users list out/report all their "strats", i mean bug abuse, so GMs can try to patch them.

So I guess alt tab hurricane really is taboo now, then? I have no idea what's the logic behind this considering you can't even hurricane for long (autoMP will only kick in once) this way but uh, good luck trying to go through with that with the community I guess

I think the stipulation for alt+tab hurricane being bannable ends up being really unfair. If that's truly bannable, it's not even possible to multiclient attack with a Bowmaster now. Whereas with any other class you're allowed to macro together an attack 3x so that you can to switch to another client and attack/maneuver, that kind of multi-attacking capability isn't even feasible with a Bowmaster without alt+tab hurricane.

Maybe there's a stronger alternative solution, like give hurricane an auto-stop attack limit? Or make people need to actively press a key on the Bowmaster client intermittently? Or even disallow Bowmasters from using auto MP lul? I think eradicating the ability to multiclient at all with a Bowmaster just isn't fair.

Personally, it really sucks to hear this news right after my Bowmaster reached 15x and got the t10 ring because I chose Bowmaster with the multiclienting capability in mind and it's finally started to be effective in CWK. I'm aware that's not a relevant factor for everyone, but it was huge for me because I made my other characters while intending to main my initial class. People told me that alt+tab hurricane was allowed so Bowmaster was really appealing, and it's frustrating to hear that this is just being disallowed (or clarified as such) after it's been around forever.

Also, this disallowing of alt+tab hurricane is just another pay2win advantage since someone with an extra PC can just say they're holding down hurricane, while they actually just alt+tab hurricane on another device. So if I CWK with my shad on PC and archer on laptop it's fine, but I can't alt+tab hurricane with my archer and shad on the same device?

I really hope this rule can be revised somehow so that at least it's still possible to multiclient attack with a Bowmaster. With that rule standing it's the only class that you can't reasonably do it with. Hurricane cannot be macro'd, and even if it could 3 hurricane shots only lasts like 0.3 seconds or something.

So are you saying that I can advertise S>1hour petri leech, where the general acceptable level of EPH is at least 21mil eph, but then under-deliver and give 10mil eph?

At the same time, if I say S>1 hour petri leech 21mil eph, but deliver 21mil exp in 50 mins, it's still scamming?

Also can you clarify "vastly"? So if the run takes more than 1 hour = scam? Well, in the case of HT, if the buyer was promised a 60min run on a 12 man, but the pepega runners DCed/died, and the run is only cleared after 2 hours/fails, is it considered a scam?

Lastly, if I smega S>leech no pepegas but the buyer turns out to be a pepega (i.e does not follow instructions on where to afk, constantly dies), is it reportable? Can we also get a definition for pepega so there is a black-and-white?

The thing that pisses me off the most is the boss freeze ban...especially for LPQ Alishar.
The game as a whole is so focused around HP washing that you just end up getting a bunch of players with high int that do minimal damage to Alishar. The Alishar boss bug is basically what helps these players get by. The system itself is causing players to this.

Also for new players that don't know about this, how is it fair that they are banned as well? I've seen GM responses saying "well too bad you didn't read the ToS". Ask yourself this...do you read every damn ToS for every game you play? This isn't some business contract, this is a casual game that people play to have fun and relieve some stress.

As for CWK and other bosses where the boss freezes randomly...how is continuing attacking it abuse? No one intentionally made this happen. This is the game bugging out.

If the excuse of not fixing these bugs is there are other priorities to work on, then let the community hear about these other priorities. At least to us, fixing these bosses so we don't get unfair bans is pretty damn high priority. Wya higher priority than making some maps look better like the recent announcements lol.. maybe it's time for the staff to re-evaluate the cost/value of your development pipeline.

Rather than owning the responsibility of making the game better, the responsibility and burden is put on the players. I thought the staff's goal was to make Maplelegends a fun experience for the players not the opposite...

For joining LPQ as int-pumped character, I don't think their weak dmg even not enough to kill the boss justifies their glitch using. I'd say, joining PQ as high int character and passing their burden to other players, is real problem itself. Nobody forced them to do HP washing, they all did it with their own will, and saying "oh my dmg is too weak to beat this PQ. we need glitch to pass it!" hmmm.....They shouldn't pass their burden to other unlucky players only for their greed.

And yes, random freezing occurs. and I don't think staffs are dumb like sneaking in your bossing map, just random freezing happens, showing up saying "Bam! you've just hit my trap! Ban hammer now!". If you're innocent for random freeze, than just go on. I'd say, it's matter of conscience. and I believe they're clever enough to see if player actually triggers glitch or not intentionally.

Again, by somewhat reason, abusing glitch can't be allowed, just my personal opinion.
Honestly, I'm feeling so weird for we need detailed explanation thread for ToS now, even ToS has already been there for more than 5 yrs.

From all the chatter, I think there's still some confusion around this clause.

Example. Your sed mule (an attacker), unfortunately dies. The group has resurrection up, but decides to hold off on it until it is deemed "safe" or wait for another potential death. Maybe 9 minutes into the sed mules death? Would that be considered abuse?

Can GMs just explicitly state, "if your bucc has more than 450 dex or if they are a HTP buyer, DO NOT FREAKING USE THEM AS SED MULE." I think this will solve a lot of problems going forward.

EDIT: What about shadow star bug?

    This is actually already covered.

    What irks me is this:
Basically, this clause allows staff discretion and bias in judgment.

    My question is this:
Will there be situations where actions of an individual Staff member can be also questioned for abuse?
Edit: To clarify, my question is regarding the possibility of preferential treatment by Staff when dealing with varied judgments. Is it considered abuse by Staff to hand a ban to one player and not all others?
