For the endgame it seems like people only farm mesos in order to offload them into actual stores of value. Seems the price of stuff like gloves, capes, CS/WS, and even current event chairs have gone up by a wide margin. From 6 months ago it feels like stuff is roughly 30-40% more expensive while wages from bossing have remained stagnant. If you're holding a billion mesos on your account you're probably losing like 1-2mil a day just from inflation.

So, are mesos valuable or just trash for convenient shopping/given to Miki the potion trillionaire?

Mesos do have value in that it costs mesos to trade them/send them via duey/sell stuff via FM (in form of tax). You can avoid getting taxed on trading and duey (except the 5000 flat fee) by using alternative currencies, but trading via FM shops requires mesos and FM shop is such a large convenience with buying and selling most items it's practically impossible to avoid.

Seems like it's just silly to hold more than 200mil at a time though, unless you want to buy something that needs to be split like mw20/PB drops

If you manage to make 2 billion mesos in like 6 months then you've already lost a large chunk of it's value in the time you were hoarding it. Buying stores of value at each 200mil interval would have grown the money instead of watch it die to inflated goods

Some people might be waiting for a recession to buy the dip. Whether that comes before or after a large chunk of the player base quits, idk.

Earning mesos hasn't gotten any easier either with the meso looting rework and leech prices still being low. Players want to protect their wealth so they buy out everything they can and the floor price of items just keeps rising faster.

You can always give me some. But yeah, it's kind of like real world, people invest in stuff to protect their assets.

There are a lot of meso making opportunity that benefits from having a huge amount of liquid meso, and usually these opportunity quickly disappear (first mover advantage). For example buying all the early maple shield variants for cheap before people realized they can be upgraded. Or merching scrolls/craft items that gain popularity quickly. So I guess it depends on how quickly you can liquidate your WS/CS to take advantage (or how much margin you lose from tax / quick selling).

But yeah in general, as long as people accept WS/CS as currency, there probably isn't a reason to keep more than 200m liquid.

an ugly way to put it is to make way for a new underclass

    edit:
but it's what happens when relatively more people on the server do bossing (more supply) and more want perf gear (higher demand)

that+ wages are kinda sticky so inflation can readjust wages back to what it's supposed to be

In just the past 2 months or so the price of CS has risen 150m to 200m. If anyone actually held 1b in raw meso during this time period, they lost out on ~300m+ from "inflation" (I am being somewhat inaccurate by referring to CS price alone as indicative of inflation, but the point remains), or over 5m every single day.

Anecdotally, I don't know of anyone who actually saves up that much raw meso anymore rather than just buying CS/WS because of how much you're griefing yourself by holding billions of raw meso.

One thing that I am curious about is how the total number of WS/CS in the game (e.g. held in people's inventories, storages, etc.) has changed over this time period. If this number has remained constant, or even declined, then perhaps they're simply being used up much faster than their supply source can generate them. But if the number has gone up a considerable amount, this could indicate that rising CS/WS prices may not be primarily a supply issue.
