Any gambling that doesn't occur in-game (eg. using @ Roll function, omok games, etc) will be considered real-world services and will be subjected to this clause. The sale of art in exchange for mesos is the only exception to this rule, but trades must be done publicly on our forums (but still subject to review by MapleLegends staff) see our notice for more information. The selling of an account is entirely prohibited, for MapleLegends currency or not.
    Punishment: Permanent Ban
*Any items found to be involved in Real World Trade are subject to be erased and the current owner/possessor investigated and discretionarily banned. These investigations will be done on a case-by-case basis, with heavy scrutinization of how and why the items were transferred.

Elements Required for an RWT Ban

The use of another person's property without their permission is considered fraud. If we receive a chargeback claim regarding a payment related to your account, with the reasoning being credit card fraud, your information will be sent to the company and government authorities. Additionally, you understand that you choose to donate not because you expect a reward in return, but rather to show your commitment to helping us re-create a memorable gaming experience.
    Punishment: Account Ban

    Precedents:
    - Donating, receiving the donor NX, then cancelling the payment = IS chargeback fraud
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    2. Abuse of Exploits and Third Party Software

    2.1 Hacking
All forms of hacking are prohibited. Hacking constitutes to use of third party software to inhibit or restrict another individual from using our services, or to give oneself an abnormal advantage over others. Programs designed to support game controllers (PlayStation, Xbox, etc.) are allowed.

All forms of packet editing/sniffing are prohibited. This includes the use of any third party software to monitor or alter our services.
    Punishment: Permanent Ban

    2.3 Unofficial Wz Editing
All forms of unofficial wz editing which give your character an abnormal advantage over others are prohibited. Any graphical edits must not alter the appearance of your character for others. For example, when editing any maps, you must leave the structure of the map the same, so that you do not appear to access areas that a normal player would be unable to access. If you have any specific questions regarding what is or is not allowed, please contact a member of the MapleLegends Staff. If you are using files from another MapleStory private server, please be sure to download the most recent MapleLegends files from our website downloads page. It is your responsibility to make sure that you always use the most up-to-date MapleLegends files. You may also not rip content from our .wz files to use on different servers with no exceptions.
    Punishment: Permanent Ban

    2.4 Duping
All forms of duping are prohibited. Duping constitutes abusing a bug or glitch in the game to abnormally obtain content (e.g. items, mesos) that you would not be able to obtain by normal means. If you accidentally duplicate any items, please contact a member of the MapleLegends Staff immediately (in-game or on the forum), to remove the duplicated items.
    Punishment: Permanent Ban

    Precedents:
    - Accidentally duping an item and reporting it to GMs = IS NOT bannable duping
    - Accidentally duping an item, reporting it to the GMs, but using it and/or gaining any advantage from it = IS duping

    2.5 Bug / Glitch Abuse
All forms of bug/glitch abuse are prohibited. If you find a bug or glitch in-game which you believe can be abused or exploited for EXP, mesos, items, or in any other way, please report it to a member of the MapleLegends Staff immediately. Depending upon the severity of the abuse, the punishment may be upgraded or downgraded.
    Punishment: Account Ban

    Precedents:
    - Accidentally causing a bug or a glitch and reporting it to the GMs = IS NOT bug/glitch abuse
    - Demonstrating the bug/glitch to a GM = IS NOT bug/glitch abuse

► GM must be present, notified before the demonstration, or notified directly after with video proof.
► Any unnecessary lapse in time will be used as evidence against you.
    - Accidentally causing a bug or a glitch, reporting it to the GMs, but using it and/or gaining any advantage from it (that is beyond a reasonable period of time) = IS bug/glitch abuse
► Reporting it alone does not clear you of wrongdoing, what is important is that you DO NOT obtain a prolonged advantage from it
► (Eg) Should your Battleship become unbreakable during a boss run, you aren't expected to log out immediately, HOWEVER, you should relog as soon as possible (after your boss run)
► There is an exception made with aggro glitches/freezes (see boss freeze abuse later)
    - Gaining any advantage from a bug/glitch = IS bug/glitch abuse
    - Repeatedly using a bug/glitch = IS bug/glitch abuse
    - Not reporting a bug/glitch and using it = IS bug/glitch abuse
    - Spreading the information of the bug/glitch to other players (and not the GMs) = IS bug/glitch abuse
If you aren't sure if something is a bug/glitch, please contact the GMs first
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    2.6 Paperweight Botting
The usage of third party software and/or paperweights (objects placed on a key) to continuously hold down a key to gain an abnormal advantage over others is considered paperweight botting and thus prohibited. MapleLegends Staff members reserve the right to randomly test you if you appear to be paperweighting.

    Precedents: General
    - Using any object (eg. stapler) to hold down a key = IS paperweight botting
    - Using any mechanism (exceptions apply to prosthetics) to input a single keystroke = IS paperweight botting
    - Using any third party program to hold down a single key repeatedly = IS paperweight botting

    Precedents: Controllers
    - Using a third party program to use a controller instead of a keyboard = IS NOT paperweight botting
    - Using a controller and taping down the joystick/button = IS paperweight botting
    - Using a controller with a button that repeats the same keystroke (eg. via toggle, configuration software, or other third party software) = IS NOT paperweight botting, but IS general botting
    Precedents: Client
    - Intentionally glitching the client so you continue to attack without having to press a button = IS paperweight botting
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    2.7 General Botting
All remaining forms of botting are also prohibited. Using any method, including using scripts and macros outside of the game, to automatically control a character and/or create any abnormal advantage over others is considered general botting. A script or a macro is defined as a program that allows you to make multiple inputs with one single input. MapleLegends Staff members reserve the right to randomly test you if you appear to be botting.
1st Offense: Account Ban; 2nd Offense: Permanent Ban

    Precedents:
    - Using any third-party program (including keyboard software) to set up and use a macro = IS general botting
    - Using an auto-clicker = IS general botting
    - Using a script to help you grind (or grind for you) = IS general botting
    - Using a controller with a button that repeats the same keystroke (eg. via toggle, configuration software, or other third party software) = IS general botting
    - Using keyboard or mouse software to remap your keys (changing the key/button that needs to be pressed for a single input) = IS NOT general botting
    - Opening the skill window and binding three skills and using the in-game macro = IS NOT general botting
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    3. Abuse within the Community
For Section 3 specifically, the staff team reserves the right to do the following:
    • Issue official warnings instead of a temporary ban for a player's first offense. In return, the player's subsequent violation will be considered their second offense and they will be punished accordingly.
    • Regard offenses as tied to the player and not the account. If an offense was committed on an alternate account, the player's main account(s) will also be banned.
    • Enforce a four-strike system. Any four offenses under Section 3 will result in an account ban on all of the player's main account(s).
      • Offenses do not need to be under the same subsection. Having 4x first offenses under any of the Section 3 clauses will be considered as four total strikes.
      • The punishment from the four strikes is not an alternative punishment. Players will still be subject to the punishment from the relevant ToS clause.
      • This change is not retroactive. Players who have accumulated multiple offenses prior to June 23, 2023, will at maximum be considered to be on their third strike.

    3.1 Sharing Private Information

Sharing another player's personal information without consent is prohibited. Such information includes but is not limited to, (full) name, home address, workplace, email address, phone number, social media accounts, etc. This term also extends to any private communications that are player-to-player or player-to-staff. Private forum posts may contain sensitive information, and therefore must not be shared with the public. Depending on the severity of the information leaked, the staff reserves the right to impose harsher punishments.
Punishment: 14 Day Ban up to Permanent Ban (based on severity)

    Precedents:
    - Publicly announcing someone else's personal information on MapleLegends Platforms = IS sharing private information
    - Revealing another player’s personal information outside of MapleLegends Platforms = IS NOT sharing private information, but could be a violation of 3.3.3 Community Harassment / Bullying
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    3.2.1 General Scamming
Scamming players is not tolerated. This constitutes obtaining an item from a player via a method unintended by the other player. For example, agreeing to trade items for another and then deceiving the player by putting up different items would be deemed scamming. Simply putting up an item in a Hired Merchant will not fall under the jurisdiction of this rule.
1st Offense: 14 Day Ban; 2nd Offense: Account Ban; 3rd Offense: Permanent Ban

Elements Required for a General Scamming Ban

    1. A finalized agreement between two or more parties
(Eg) For instant trades, pressing "trade" in a trade window = finalized agreement
(Eg) For trades taking place over time (eg. leeching, instalment payments, packages), starting the service/handing over the item = finalized agreement
    2. A failure to deliver on their side of the promise, after the agreement has already been partially or fully executed
    3. No existence of extenuating circumstances, such as power outages, disconnections, technical issues
    Precedents:
    - Agreeing to sell 1 hour of leech for 10 mil mesos, and then only selling for 45 minutes = IS general scamming
    - Agreeing to buy 1 hour of leech for 10 mil mesos, and not paying up = IS general scamming
    - Loaning an equip and then selling the weapon, when it doesn't belong to you = IS general scamming
    - In cases where there has been no agreement = IS NOT general scamming
    - Alleging there was an agreement, where there was none and trying to force another party into delivering = IS general scamming
    - Changing the terms of the agreement, after there was an acceptance of the offer = IS general scamming
    - Advertising 1 hour of leech for 30 mil exp per hour, but it only being 28 mil exp per hour = IS NOT general scamming

► A certain amount of leeway is granted for these matters
► However, if it differs vastly, then it will be considered scamming
    - Advertising a 30-minute zakum helmet service, but it ending up as 45-minutes = IS NOT general scamming
    - Sending lower than market price offers = IS NOT general scamming
    - Any trade that occurs through a Hired Merchant = IS NOT general scamming
    - Not selling something at an "auto-win" price = IS NOT general scamming

► "Auto-win" prices are guidelines for buyers to offer, sellers are not obligated to sell at that price
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    3.2.2 Roll Scamming
Roll scamming is using the @ Roll command to gamble with another player, where the winner gets "x" amount of mesos or items that were previously agreed upon (this does not apply to PQ rolls, as those will be handled under griefing). These scams fall under a more specific area of scamming and will be treated with more severity. Note that video evidence is required for roll scam reports, or the case will not be reviewed. If found that the banned account is not the player’s main or only account, associated accounts will also be given the same punishment (for example, account bans applied to both the offending and main accounts). ALSO NOTE, that gambling of any form is a risk undertaken by the individual. GMs are not liable for any losses incurred due to scamming. Proceed at your own risk, and always keep video evidence of gambling rolls.
1st Offense: 14 Day Ban up to Account Ban (based on severity); 2nd Offense: Permanent Ban

Elements Required for a Malicious Reporting Ban
    1. A finalized agreement between two or more parties
    2. The promise of something of value (eg. a service, item, or mesos) depending on the outcome of a game of chance (associated with the @ Roll command)

MapleLegends only monitors games of chance/gambling done in-game
Any other games of chance/gambling done on a third party site are categorized as REAL WORLD TRADING/UNOFFICIAL COMMERCE
Any betting or gambling of mesos MUST be done with in-game functions aka the @ Roll command
    3. A failure to deliver on the promise
    4. If you are reporting someone for roll scamming
PLEASE have video evidence, or else the claim will not be reviewed

    Precedents:
    - Losing a roll and logging off = IS roll scamming
    - Losing a roll and unintentionally disconnecting = IS NOT roll scamming

► Unintentional DCs will be judged by the duration (usually given a few minutes of leeway)
► If facing a prolonged network problem (aka. power went out), the player will need to present evidence that can corroborate this and/or try to reach out to the winner in the meantime
    - Unilaterally claiming a roll was a test roll = IS roll scamming
► Test rolls must be agreed upon by both players to not count toward the final outcome
    - Betting something you do not have = IS roll scamming
    - Changing the rules of the game after both parties have already agreed = IS roll scamming
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    3.3.1 General Harassment
All forms of harassment will not be tolerated. This includes rude, hateful, abusive, threatening, accusative, or otherwise, objectionable behavior both in-game or on forums. We don’t expect everyone to be best friends with each other, but we simply ask that you respect one another.
1st Offense: 5 Day Ban; 2nd Offense: 10 Day Ban; 3rd Offense: Account Ban

Elements Required for a General Harassment Ban

    1. The existence of an offended party
    2. An action by another party, that a reasonable individual would consider rude, hateful, abusive, threatening, accusatory, or otherwise objectionable

► Intention of the offending player DOES NOT matter (even if it was meant as a joke), so long as it can be objectively perceived as rude, hateful, abusive, threatening, accusatory, or otherwise objectionable
    3. If possible, there must have been an attempt to de-escalate the situation (eg. asking them to stop)
    4. Done on a MapleLegends Platform (in-game, forums, or Discord)

► If you are reporting someone for harassment PLEASE have uncropped screenshots
► Incidents not occurring on our platform ARE NOT covered under 3.3.1

    Precedents:
    - Escalating a civil conversation (just a discussion) to one-sided swearing at the other party = IS harassment
    - Both players swearing and insulting each other = IS harassment (for both sides)
    - Threatening another player (with the exception of kicking them out of the party, guild, buddy list) = IS harassment
    - Having an IGN that ridicules another player = IS harassment
    - When a player has communicated they feel uncomfortable, in-game stalking (actively following someone around) = IS harassment
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    3.3.2 Zero-Tolerance Harassment
MapleLegends has a zero-tolerance policy for any comments or behavior targeting a player’s race, ethnicity, gender, religious beliefs, or sexuality. Additionally, MapleLegends also has a zero-tolerance policy against sexual harassment and any unwelcomed conduct of a sexual nature that makes another player intimidated, humiliated, or uncomfortable. Examples of sexual harassment include the following, but not limited to sharing sexual stories or jokes to an unconsenting party, sending sexually explicit messages, and making sexual demands.
1st Offense: Minimum 10 Day Ban (based on severity); 2nd Offense Account Ban; 3rd Offense: Permanent Ban

Elements Required for a Zero-Tolerance Harassment Ban

    1. The incident must relate to one of the following categories:
    a) Racial or ethnic harassment/discrimination
    b) Gender harassment/discrimination
    c) Religious harassment/discrimination
    d) Sexual orientation harassment/discrimination
    e) Sexual harassment
    2. An action by another party, that a reasonable individual would consider rude, hateful, abusive, threatening, or otherwise disrespectful
► Intention of the offending player DOES NOT matter (even if it was meant as a joke), so long as it can be objectively perceived as rude, hateful, abusive, threatening, or otherwise disrespectful
    3. Done on a MapleLegends Platform (in-game, forums, or Discord)
► If you are reporting someone for harassment PLEASE have uncropped screenshots
► Incidents not occurring on our platform ARE NOT covered under 3.3.2

    Precedents:
    - Having a racist IGN = IS harassment
    - Calling people derogatory slurs, misgendering someone after multiple corrections = IS harassment
    - Mockery of another person's beliefs / dispositions = IS harassment
    - Escalating a civil conversation/discussion to a one-sided swearing at the other party = IS harassment
    - Forcing people to engage in conversations about a zero-tolerance topic, despite another player's desire to not do so = IS harassment
    - Having a conversation about a zero-tolerance topic (eg. race, gender, sex, etc) = IS NOT harassment
    - Choosing not to talk / join discussions about zero-tolerance topics = IS NOT harassment
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    3.3.3 Community Harassment / Bullying
Any repeated behavior towards a specific individual or group of individuals part of the MapleLegends community that results in the creation of a hostile environment for the player(s) will be considered a violation of this clause. A hostile environment is defined to be one that a reasonable and objective person would consider unwelcoming, unsafe, and causing reputational damage. This clause applies regardless of where said behavior occurs, including outside our platform, so long as the behavior causes repercussions to the player(s) either in-game or within the wider MapleLegends community.
1st Offense: 7 Day Ban; 2nd Offense: 14 Day Ban; 3rd Offense: Permanent Ban

Elements Required for a Community Harassment Ban

    1. The existence of an offended party
    2. A series of repeated actions or recurring behavior across various platforms or different points in time

► Intention of the offending player does not matter (even if it was meant as a joke)
    3. Application of this clause is restricted to only the following situations where a player would reasonably feel fearful in-game of:
    a. Being the target of sexual harassment
    b. Their own personal safety (perhaps due to doxing, stalking, etc)
    c. Becoming the target of discrimination due to the spreading of falsehoods

(Eg) Situations where a player is portrayed by members of the community to be a racist/sexist/sexual predator, when there was no evidence of it
    4. The individual must have contributed to the creation of an unwelcoming or unsafe environment
► The standard for “feeling unwelcome or unsafe” is based on what a reasonable and objective person would feel
    5. The actions do not need to be done exclusively on a MapleLegends Platform (in-game, forums, or Discord) so long as there is a noticeable impact within the MapleLegends community (see element #3)

    Precedents:
    - Repeatedly alleging a person RWTed on various platforms = IS community harassment
    - Repeatedly bothering another player despite warnings = IS community harassment
    - Repeatedly creating and spreading false rumors or lies about a particular player intending to damage their reputation or cause harm = IS community harassment
    - Encouraging others to engage in harassing or bullying behavior towards a particular player or group of players = IS community harassment
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    3.3.4 Accusatory Harassment
Publicly accusing another player (such as through SMEGAs, forum posts, or any conduct that can be considered ‘public’ on our platform) of having committed any offense under our Terms of Services, regardless of its legitimacy, is not tolerated. Instead, please report it to the GMs with proper evidence, so that we may take appropriate actions.
1st Offense: 1 Week SMEGA Mute up to 5 Day Ban (based on severity); 2nd Offense 10 Day Ban; 3rd Offense: Account Ban

Elements Required for an Accusatory Harassment Ban

    1. An accusation that another player has violated our Terms of Services
    2. The accusation must be made in a 'public' setting

(Eg) SMEGAs, Free Market entrance, anywhere on our official MapleLegends forums, or any channel in our official MapleLegends Discord
    3. Done on a MapleLegends Platform (in-game, forums, or Discord)
► If you are reporting someone for harassment PLEASE have uncropped screenshots
► Incidents not occurring on our platform ARE NOT covered under 3.3.4

    Precedents:
    - SMEGAing how a player is a kill stealer = IS accusatory harassment
    - Posting on Discord that a player is an RWTer = IS accusatory harassment
    - Having an FM shop that accuses a player of scamming you = IS accusatory harassment
    - Privately messaging a friend saying you think a player is hacking = IS NOT accusatory harassment
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    4. Miscellaneous Abuses

    4.1 Account Sharing
Account sharing and giving away accounts is prohibited with no exceptions. Account sharing is not just limited to having the credentials of another player and/or sharing your own credentials. It also includes being logged in simultaneously on the same device. Each account is to be owned, played by, and used by 1 person only.

If two or more players' accounts are found on the same device simultaneously, it will be considered as evidence of account sharing, regardless of intent. Shared IP alone will not equate to account sharing. Using VPNs or traveling will also not equate to account sharing by itself.

Note that if a player quits and gives away that account (no longer intended to be used by them, or becomes predominantly used by someone else), the account will be immediately account banned. Any other offenses committed by the account will be bound to the account, and its sharers, regardless of who owns the account (including Permanent Bans). If an account is found being utilized in any way or form by multiple people, all accounts associated with/owned by each person will be punished. If the shared account gets permanently banned, the ban will apply to all account sharers.
1st Offense: 30 Day Ban; 2nd Offense: Account Ban

Elements Required for an Account Sharing Ban

    1. Another player to have access to your account in ONE of the following ways:
    a) Knowing your login details (ID, password, and/or pin); or
    b) Controlling your character; or
    c) Another player's character AND your character being (I) logged onto the same device, (II) and at the same time
    2. The intent does not matter, as long as any of the above is satisfied
    3. "Beyond reasonable doubt" standard of proof (allegations alone will not result in a ban)
    Precedents: General Account Sharing
    - Sharing your login details (ID, password, and/or pin) = IS account sharing
    - Having another person play/log into your account (without knowing your login details) = IS account sharing
    - Using Teamviewer to control another player's account = IS account sharing
    - Having two accounts (one owned by you & one owned by another person) logged in on the same computer, AT THE SAME TIME = IS account sharing
    - Making an account for another person to play = IS account sharing (please let them make their own account)
    - One person owning multiple accounts (you must be the ONLY owner/controller of the accounts) = IS NOT account sharing
    - Multiple people logging in from the same house = IS NOT account sharing
    - Logging in from the same computer (at different times) = IS NOT account sharing
    - Logging in from different IP addresses (because of traveling or using VPNs) = IS NOT account sharing

Precedents: Account Sharing and Other Violations

    - If you share your account with someone, and they commit an offense on the account = BOTH players will face the same punishment
    - If you share your account with someone, and they commit a severe offense (account ban or permanent ban) on their account = you will still be given the same punishment (even if you weren't involved)
    - This applies to permanent bans, and both IP addresses will be blocked from accessing our servers
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    4.2 Griefing
Griefing is an intentional or conscious conduct in-game that has the effect of disrupting, obstructing, interfering with, or sabotaging another player’s gameplay. Map-related griefing claims will be settled with the @mapowner command, which displays who owns the map. Please refer to https://forum.maplelegends.com/index.php?threads/maplelegends-mapowner-guide.31939/ for further detail on how the mapowner system works. Once mapowner is obtained, a player has the rights to:
    - Kill monsters in the map themselves, or assign others the right to do so.
    - Loot drops in the map themselves, or assign others the right to do so (such as those invited to the party).
    - Ask a player to leave the map ONLY IF deemed to be interfering with the gameplay of the mapowner and by extension, the mapowner's party. Interference includes but is not limited to, kill stealing, looting drops, preventing other members from entering the map (applicable to member-capped maps, such as Manon), and affecting mob behavior or aggro (most notably AFKing at Windraiders in a place that pulls mobs away from the leecher).

Exceptions to the use of the @mapowner commands are listed below:

    - Area bosses that do not have killable mobs (eg. Crimson Balrog): the first one who entered the map will have pseudo-mapowner and has the right to ask other players to CC. This is proven by a screenshot with the @servertime command used. All the requirements needed to obtain mapowner needs to be satisfied to obtain pseudo-mapowner as well.
    - Expeditions: the expedition leader or those they assign will possess the rights associated with the mapowner, regardless of who the @mapowner command indicates.
    - Party Quests: the party leader or those they assign will possess the rights associated with the mapowner, regardless of who the @mapowner command indicates.
1st Offense: 3 Day Ban; 2nd Offense: 7 Day Ban; 3rd Offense: Account Ban

Mass griefing is a more serious case of griefing that results in the gameplay of many players (an entire party or multiple parties) being disrupted, obstructed, interfered with, or sabotaged. Regardless of who the @mapowner command indicates, expedition leaders and party leaders in the case of Party Quests, will have the rights to the following:
    - Looting drops or assigning others the right to do so.
    - Decide when to summon the boss.
    - Ask a player to leave the map IF deemed to be interfering with the expedition or Party Quest.
    Punishment: Additional 14 Day Ban
(eg. If your 2nd Offense Griefing Ban is classified as "Mass Griefing" your ban duration will be 21 Days)

Elements Required for a Griefing Ban

    1. Intentional or conscious conduct in-game
The required intent isn’t malicious intent, but rather the intent to perform the action
    2. The conduct must disrupt, obstruct, interfere, or sabotage the gameplay of another player
For 'Mass Griefing' conduct must affect many players (an entire party or multiple parties)

    Precedents: General
    - Intentionally causing someone’s death = IS griefing
    - Filling an FM store with mules so another player cannot access it = IS griefing
    - Forming an expedition and entering the boss map with no intention to kill the boss, but rather prevent other players from attempting the boss = IS griefing
    - Violating @mapowner by kill stealing or looting in another player’s map (including Monster Book cards, which are owned by the mapowner) = IS griefing
    Precedents: Mass Griefing
    - Sabotaging a party quest, such as by entering a PQ with no intention of participating in the PQ stage(s) = IS mass griefing
    - Sabotaging an expedition, by entering an expedition and refusing to take part = IS mass griefing
    - Entering an expedition uninvited and summoning the boss without the expedition leader’s consent = IS mass griefing
    - Intentionally looting and refusing to return items in an expedition without the expedition leader’s consent (cases of accidental auto pet loots are not griefing) = IS mass griefing
    - Refusing to leave an expedition at the request of the expedition leader = IS mass griefing
    - Intentionally triggering certain boss mechanics (eg. seduce) in an attempt to kill other players or disrupt the expedition = IS mass griefing
    - Refusing to distribute drops and/or profits properly and adequately = IS mass griefing
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    4.3 Boss Freeze Abuse
Any form of abuse that intentionally causes monsters in boss maps to stop using abilities or attacking is forbidden. This includes but is not limited to, positioning a character in a certain area of the map or using the death of a character to purposefully cause the boss or other surrounding mobs to freeze and/or no longer seek to attack an active player. Examples would include: Elder Wraiths in Big Foot maps being frozen; Nibergen not attacking (damage being done by clouds only); or Alishar not using any magic attacks.
1st Offense: 7 Day Ban; 2nd Offense: Account Ban
*If the abuse is done as a group, everyone in that group will automatically be held accountable.

Elements Required for a Boss Freeze Abuse Ban
    1. Needs to affect a boss OR a mob inside a boss map (expedition maps or area boss maps)
    a) While referred to as "boss freeze", the violation is not limited to the boss itself
    2. The monster (a boss or a mob as required in #1) must satisfy one of the following:
    a) Stop casting ALL spells entirely (eg. map-wide magic attacks, summoning mobs) for a prolonged period of time;
Touch damage is not a spell, and therefore even if you are receiving touch damage, the monster will still be considered "frozen"
    b) Cast targeted attacks (eg. seduce) or aggro (seeking or moving towards) onto an untargettable player (eg. via deaths) for a prolonged period of time; or
    c) No longer move or do so in an abnormal manner for a prolonged period of time
    3. As well as one of the following:
    a) Intentional behavior to cause/trigger the freeze;
    b) Unintentionally causing the freeze, but not reporting it to the GM;
    c) Being part of a party/expedition that triggers the freeze, knowing of the abuse, and without vocalizing disagreement; or
    d) Being part of a party/expedition that triggers the freeze, knowing of the abuse, without reporting it to the GM

What is considered a prolonged period of time? This will be handled on a case-by-case basis:
    - Not resurrecting until the full 10 minute timer = IS NOT significant and NOT boss freeze abuse
If done multiple times in the same run, with the dead player being someone with some type of aggro (eg. seduce or wyverns) = IS boss freeze abuse
    - Resurecting multiple times to continue the freeze = IS boss freeze abuse
    - Intentionally having a dead character hold aggro when there is no chance res (as in will NEVER be able to be ressed during the run) all for the sake of preventing a certain spell being cast (eg. seduce) = IS boss freeze abuse
    - Remember, that all the elements earlier on NEED to be satisfied
Precedents: How to Properly Handle Freezes
    - Causing Alishar to just walk around and not cast spells entirely = IS abuse
    - Causing Ravana to not cast spells entirely = IS abuse
    Precedents: General
    - Causing Alishar to just walk around and not cast spells entirely = IS abuse
    - Causing Ravana to not cast spells entirely =
    IS abuse
If Ravana continues to cast magic cancels and spawn summons = IS NOT abuse
    - Elderwraiths in Big Foot maps aggroed onto a dead player = IS abuse
    - Elderwratihs in Big Foot maps aggroed onto a player in dark sight (but still alive) =
    IS NOT abuse
    - Anego not moving or using any spells =
    IS boss freeze abuse
    - Mobs in the anego map not moving =
    IS boss freeze abuse
    - Anego not using one of its attacks =
    IS NOT boss freeze abuse
    - Luring Mavericks using a barrel mule in Core Blaze =
    IS boss freeze abuse
    - Vergamot not casting any spells = IS boss freeze abuse
    Precedents: Horntail
    - Holding Horntail's seduce aggro with a dead character throughout a significant portion of the run = IS boss freeze abuse
Reason: Horntail is being forced (unnaturally) to cast its targeted attack onto an untargetable character (and not attack)
Holding Wyvern aggro with a dead character throughout a significant portion of the run = IS boss freeze abuse
Reason: Wyverns are being forced to move to and try to damage a character that is untargetable
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    4.4 Maple Island Smuggling
The act of bringing items into Maple Island from any location using any method is prohibited. As the majority of these smuggling incidents have been players taking advantage of bugs or exploits, this is now an explicitly prohibited practice. Effective August 2023 any Islanders with smuggled items may be subject to punishment.
1st Offense: Official Request to Remove Items from Maple Island within 24 Hours*; 2nd Offense: Nuking of Items + Moved to Victoria Island
*For any players that smuggle items into Maple Island after the start of of August 2023, they will immediately be subject to 2nd Offense punishment, unless they self-report to @GMs.

    Precedents:
    - Using event bugs to bring items onto Maple Island = IS smuggling
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    4.5 Spamming
All forms of spamming are not allowed, with the exception of spamming buying/selling lines in the Free Market. Spamming is defined as repeated postings of similar or identical messages, as well as inciting and getting involved in such behavior. Spamming is not account restricted, therefore resorting to using another account to continue the spamming will still be considered an offense.
1st Offense: Warning/1 Week Smega Ban; 2nd Offense: 3 Day Ban; 3rd Offense: Minimum 7 Day Ban

*Depending on the severity of the offense, the staff reserves the right to take away your ability to send Messages/Megaphones or increase the punishment if used inappropriately. Do note, the spamming and harassment clauses are NOT mutually exclusive, and you can be held liable for both.

    Precedents:
    - Spamming buy/sell lines in Free Market = IS NOT spamming
    - Using a SMEGA to incite/encourage other people to spam = IS spamming

(Eg) Let's count to 100! = IS spamming
    - Using a SMEGA to repeatedly send similar messages in a short time frame = IS spamming
    - Using a SMEGA to have a public conversation (conversation meaning more than a couple of messages, but a repeated back-and-forth of messages) that can be done in private = IS spamming
    - Using a SMEGA to publicly accuse someone or call them out = IS spamming & harassment
    - Spamming clause is not limited to just SMEGAs
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    4.6 Forum Etiquette
While on the MapleLegends forum, please keep in mind the general rules of etiquette. Please do not spam or bump your posts unnecessarily often. This also applies to the shoutbox. Bumping your post once every 24 hours is more than adequate. Please do not reply with completely off-topic, irrelevant, or negative remarks towards other players whether it be in your thread or someone else's. Please do not recruit for your own guild in someone else's guild thread. Please do not pretend that you are someone whom you are not. Please only have one forum account for each human.
Punishment (based on severity): Warning; Post Deletion; Ban from Replying a Specific Thread; Ban from Creating Threads; Shoutbox Ban; Forum Ban; In-Game Ban

    4.7 Staff Impersonation
The impersonation of MapleLegends staff members by non-staff members is prohibited. This also means that any player not yet recognized by the MapleLegends administrators as a member of the MapleLegends Staff is not allowed to claim that he/she is a member of the MapleLegends Staff.
    Punishment: Account Ban

    Precedents:
    - Impersonating a staff member by adding "GM/GameMaster/GameModerator" in your name = IS staff impersonation
    - Claiming to be a staff member, when you are not = IS staff impersonation

This applies regardless of the platform (in-game, forum, Discord, etc)
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    4.8 Malicious / False Reporting
Malicious reporting is defined as the submission of a report with the intent to intimidate, harass, or cause harm to another player. False reports are considered malicious reports, meaning any reports using deception or dishonesty with the intent to get another user banned are prohibited. An example of this would involve the editing or selective cropping of screenshots to make it look like the player is violating our Terms of Service when they are not.
1st Offense: 15 Days; 2nd Offense: Account Ban

Elements Required for a Malicious Reporting Ban

    1. An official report on the forums
    2. Submission of "hard evidence"

Hunches or tips being given to staff will never be considered malicious reporting
    3. Use of any form of deception or dishonesty towards the staff team, examples include:
    a. Use of fake screenshots
    b. Use of selectively cropped or edited screenshots
    c. Relying on outdated incidents for vengeful purposes

    Precedents:
    - Reporting someone with a photoshopped screenshot = IS malicious reporting
    - Intentionally omitting details so that you seem innocent while the reported party alone seems guilty = IS malicious reporting
    - Forgetting to include details in a report or appeal = IS NOT malicious reporting
    - Reporting someone on a hunch or giving a tip to the staff = IS NOT malicious reporting
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

4.9 Misuse of @GM and Report Functions
Spamming @GM command multiple times for the same issue, sending messages/reports/ban appeals excessively, or any similar actions that hinder the staff team's ability to handle GM responsibilities will be considered misuse. Please submit only one ticket per issue per person. We reserve the right to remove your privilege to use @GM command for repeat offenders.
1st Offense: Warning; 2nd Offense: 5 Day Ban; 3rd Offense: 14 Day Ban; 4th Offense: Account Ban

    Precedents:
    - Spamming @GM command multiple times for the same issue = IS misuse
    - Opening multiple threads on the forums (eg. ban appeals or report abuse) when the content is identical = IS misuse
    - Any action that hinders the staff's ability to handle other player's issues = IS misuse
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

4.10 Abuse of Terms of Service
Attempting to profit from a grey area of the Terms of Service or trying to "game the system" will not be tolerated. If you believe that the Terms of Service has loopholes, please suggest improvements on our forums instead of abusing them. If you need clarifications about the Terms of Service, please contact the Staff Team and ask questions first. If you were found to be abusing a loophole intentionally, you will receive more severe punishment.
Punishment: Skip of Offense Punishments, an Immediate Account Ban, or an Immediate Permanent Ban

    Precedents:
    - Looking for a loophole in the Terms of Service and trying to exploit loopholes, with malicious intent = IS abuse of ToS
    - Trying to avoid a ban based on "your interpretation of the ToS" = IS abuse of ToS
    - Misunderstanding the ToS = IS NOT abuse of ToS (but if you committed an offense, it isn't a valid defense either)
    - In instances where you feel there is a problem with the ToS, please approach a staff member and raise your concern (before undertaking any actions)
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    4.11 Major Abuse
If any rule is found to be abused long-term or extensively broken by any player(s), additional punishment may be applied.
Punishment: Skip of Offense Punishments, an Immediate Account Ban, or an Immediate Permanent Ban

    Precedents:
    - An offense might be classified as major abuse if done over a long period of time
    - Possessing a duped item for years = IS major abuse
    - Repeated account-bound offenses on various accounts = IS major abuse
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    4.12 Ban Evasion
Evading a ban is prohibited. If you have received a ban, there was a good reason for it, and attempting to bypass your punishment will simply lead to even harsher punishments. Examples include bypassing the system somehow and accessing an account banned account, or accessing our services when permanently banned (which is different from just an 'account ban').
1st Offense: Doubled Length of Punishment; 2nd Offense: Permanent Ban

    Precedents:
    - Somehow using a loophole to continue to access a banned account = IS ban evasion
    - Getting permanently banned and still accessing our server = IS ban evasion
    - Getting account banned and accessing our server = IS NOT ban evasion
    - Getting account banned and logging into another account (that isn't banned) = IS NOT ban evasion
    - Using a smega on another character when you are smega muted on another = IS NOT ban evasion
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    4.13 Association with Abusers
Any players involved in any aforementioned abuse will be guilty by association. Association includes but is not limited to, benefitting from, aiding, or promoting the abuse, whether it be via party, trade, or any other methods. If a player knowingly or has reason to believe an item/service is the product of abuse (e.g. hacking, duping, RWT), it will be categorized as benefitting from and/or aiding the abuse. Additionally, obstructing the staff's investigation (e.g. lying or attempting to cover up the wrongdoing) will also be considered aiding and thereby make you guilty by association. If you witness any form of abuse, please contact a member of the MapleLegends Staff (preferably with evidence such as a screenshot/video).
Punishment: Equivalent Punishment as Original Abuser

    Precedents:
    - Being in the same party as an abuser (eg. botting, hacking, aggro abuse, bug/glitch exploit) = IS association
    - Encouraging someone to abuse = IS association
    - Trying to hide someone else's abuse = IS association

Not every abuse needs to be reported (exceptions listed below), but if there were active efforts to interfere/prevent GM investigation = IS association
Not reporting aggro abuse while in the same party/run = IS association
Not reporting aggro abuse you heard about = IS NOT association
Not reporting harassment of another player = IS NOT association
Not reporting griefing = IS NOT association
    - Benefiting in any way from someone else's abuse = IS association
If you have reasonable grounds to suspect someone is abusing (even if you didn't 100% know) and still benefited from it = IS association
Using a duped item, knowing it is duped = IS association
Using a duped item, without knowing or having reasonable ground to believe it was duped = IS NOT association
(Eg) If a person loans you one of his 10 perfect weapons that are identical, there is reasonable ground to suspect it was duped
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    5. Staff Abuse
*Any violations of this section by staff members, current and previous, are subject to additional punishments up to permanent bans depending on the severity of the violation.

    5.1 Breach of Server Rules
MapleLegends staff members are required to carefully follow the Terms of Service. If found to be in violation of server rules, they will not be involved in the investigation and decision-making process.
Punishment: 2x Normal Punishment + Termination*

    5.2 Breach of Confidentiality
Staff members, current and former, are prohibited from disclosing any confidential information obtained, accessed, or created while part of the staff team to anyone not currently on the staff team. Confidential information refers to any information that is generally not available to the public, such as but not limited to drop rates, upcoming changes, player information, details of reports, details of ban appeals, or details of any internal staff discussions.
    Punishment: Termination*

If a player reveals the details of their appeal or report in public, the staff team will consider it a waiver of player-staff confidentiality. Thereby allowing the staff team (collectively) to respond to any falsehoods and inconsistencies.

    Precedents:
    - Discussing how drop rates work = IS breach of confidentiality
    - Discussing upcoming changes before it was announced = IS breach of confidentiality
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

5.3 Abuse of Power / Information
Staff members are prohibited from using their position, the commands they have access to by virtue of their position, or the information they have access to by virtue of their position in a manner that falls outside the scope of their staff responsibilities. This includes the following but not limited to:
    - Using their staff resources for personal matters unrelated to staff responsibilities
    - Providing explicit or implicit advantages to oneself or any non-staff member(s)

Any players found to have knowingly benefited from the staff member’s abuse of power and not reporting may also be subject to punishment.
    Punishment: Termination*

    Precedents:
    - Using insider information to merch items = IS abuse of power
    - Discussing upcoming changes before it was announced = IS abuse of power
Note: These are not exhaustive lists, they are just a few notable examples.

    5.4 Violation of Staff Conduct
MapleLegends Staff members are expected to maintain high standards of performance and conduct and to behave in an ethical and professional manner while associated with the server. They are also expected to treat all players fairly and equally.
1st Offense: Official Warning; 2nd Offense: Termination*

Please note that the MapleLegends Staff has the right to use their discretion to ban you for any reason that they deem is abusive, disruptive, or otherwise has a negative impact on the server

If you believe that you were unfairly banned, please create a ban appeal by clicking here.

    Thank you,
    MapleLegends Staff

Please note below changes to the Terms of Service, effective immediately. Differences noted by BOLD text.

    3.3.3 Community Bullying/Harassment Clause Narrowed

    5. The actions do not need to be done exclusively on a MapleLegends Platform (in-game, forums, or Discord) so long as there is a noticeable impact within the MapleLegends community
