    This isn't something important to take note of as of yet but perhaps in the near future. Earlier today I have suggested the possibility of implementing some sort of achievement system. This should not affect gameplay that much as it is a way to boost the morale and motivate players to accomplish things they may have not before. If the administration decides to implement this suggestion, it may be wise to create a thread and possibly have players suggest some achievements and reward ideas.

    For example: Achieving level 70 will reward you 5k nx.

    I would much rather see a feature like this than the current Cash drops from mobs. So I fully support this idea, as suggested, it shouldn't even be limitted to Cash. (Cash) Rings could be a good way to show off certain achievements without the need of additional players commands, custom NPCs or anything else. There are 4 equipments slots ready to filled with pride, with or without additional stat boosts. However, this extra boost in equipments would require a working CashShop inventory, as space here is limited.

    Possibly the biggest motivation for similar systems is the way it caters to (and possibly hooks) new players, while also allowing the administration to boost certain aspects of the game. Some examples:
    • Early in game is when people need Cash most, rewarding them with this precious currency will give a satisfyin feeling, a positive vibe about the game. This is something in which the current Cash drops fail, as it is entirely based on luck. You'll probably find more Cash near end-game than at the start...
    • Replacing the Cash drops with achievements will give the admins a more solid idea of how easy earning Cash is. Once you've finished all your achievements, you will only be able to gain Cash by voting (or perhaps repeatable achievements). This limits the Cash an account can earn within it's life time drastically, but does it so that every account has the same potential.
    • An example of how this might hook a player to stay is have more difficult achievements (i.e. kill all area bosses in Victoria Island), this would take players on a world tour, keep them busy, meet people, and maybe help decide they will stay around. Maybe for that next achievement.
    • It's rather obvious how this can be used a tool to guide players to certain areas, new features... if you reward them well enough.

    Kim mentioned wanting to have something similar to this in the past as an alternative way to receive additional Game Cash (e.g. NX for Job Advancements), but we never got around to finalizing anything. Definitely a possibility still though.

    I personally prefer periodic achievements rather than the kinds that remain in the game forever (eg. Reach level 70. Everyone who gets 70 gets the same reward, it doesn't feel like much of an achievement. Plus, getting level 70 itself is already a personal achievement without having to reward players for it).

    Instead, maybe use achievements regarding things that people won't do otherwise (like kill area bosses as Gi said), and maybe change it each month (or only release it once in a while, that way it becomes more special and more like an "event" rather than a "feature" of Legends).

    Could be a good way to get people questing, as well, since medals don't work in 62.

    I think it would be cool to have little forum trophies for completing certain achievements, rather than an NX boost.

    Really late bump, but I completely agree that this system can be used to motivate players to do things that are... dare I say it... fun! Or at least make the game more interesting. You could have a nice mix of specific-moment achievements (advancing to 3rd job, killing Zakum for the first time, finding certain secret maps), daily achievements (party quests, jump quests), and more involved achievements (800 completed quests, 1000 cards in monster book, killing every area boss). Rewards could be a mix of NX, cosmetic items, and low-stat rings.

    I remember making a suggestion for achievements via rings for Royals, but it was never implemented. You could make pseudo-medals trough the name labels that certain rings have:

    I can't do graphics for my life but basically, you would have something next to the name that shows your achievement. (Here QSM for Quest Specialist Medal)

    It would be amazing if we could get this, especially one for completing 800 quests (if there are 800 in v62).

    I don't really like medals as they ruin the pre-big bang feel of the game... Rings with stats as well are also similar.

    After long discussing and things we could do if we implement it the feature request is officially approved. We will create a neat achievement system to make the people feel even more accomplished on certain things, more info will come eventually. This is however not too high on the priority list as we do our primary objectives first :)

    Noting here that due to time constraints I won't be able to have this done by release. Regular content will always take priority over custom, but its certainly something that will be worked on over time.

    After reading this thread with much interest, I am quite excited for the implementation of this. So it has come to my knowledge that it's not possible to implement the existing medal system from the original Maple Story? If it is possible, why not use it?

    In any case, how's the progress on this being added to the game? We're coming in close to a year since this was discussed.
