    Hello,

    With the server up for 14 days its time for a quick restart. No changes will be made with this, and shops will be closed.

    Sorry for it being so quickly. I've noticed in the graphs small lags are kicking in, and its important that our users have a good experience playing the server. Normally these restarts are weekly, so its nice the server is handling 2 weeks well again with 600+ online daily :)

    The restart will happen 10 PM UTC (in 1 hour from this topic).

    30 minutes is a bit much. At work we have many servers and it takes about a minute. I don't know if Kim has to re-open/re-load everything, but it shouldn't last longer than 5 to 10 minutes.

    Your point is? Sure I can restart the server in literally a minute but a good product does quality tests to see if everything is still fine. I will do this too, especially with all the Christmas stuff we've been working on I want make sure nothing of it is applied yet.

    Hypothetical - what would happen if the server was left to run indefinitely (assuming you never had to make changes or release patches, etc.)? Does the reset actually serve a functional purpose?

    I think a few of you are getting my post wrong, lol.
    I only mentioned that a server restart won't take up to 30 minutes. I don't know what exactly you do to let everything run properly. That's why I said it could also take a bit longer than the restart of the server too, ofc.
    Dunno why I have to explain a simple sentence.

    If any bit of memory leak is still in the source, the server would eventually run out of it. When the server is out of memory (RAM) the server start get laggier and laggier since there's less and less space to process everything.

    An other possibility is hitting a deadlock, which causes the source to crash altogether, and if that happens its no longer in a playable state. That didn't happen for long time though, so the former will happen more likely.

    EDIT: So a restart refreshes/empty everything again.
