Why isn't there a version check?

Looking at the Report Bugs forum, it seems most people's issues are due to them having outdated files. Instead of constantly telling these people to update, why doesn't the client have a version check with the server that would immediately tell you upon running the game that your files are out of date and that your client may crash unexpectedly? I think this would end up saving the staff a lot of time giving the same response over and over again. It also would help people know that there is an update since new players and casuals don't check the discord/forums that often. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

 

Also, why don't we have proper version numbers? Yea it would be confusing because the base client is v62 but you could do v62.001, v62.019 etc. instead of just using the date of the patch (which is confusing when there are occasionally multiple revision patches on the same day and there is no way to tell if you have the most recent version)
