Credits to SerinSerin for the super cute banner!

Hey everyone! For this Christmas, we are introducing a new event that is hosted by the GMs: Snowball

    Gameplay video:

*There are no good quality videos on youtube, and this Taiwan MapleStory video is cute as heck.

    What is Snowball?

Snowball is an event where team Maple and team Story fight against each other. Their objective is to roll a huge snowball towards the end of the map. The team that rolls the ball to the end first wins.

But there is a few twists to make it anything but a mindless whack-a-ball :p

    The Preparations
    [IMG] [IMG]
When the Host announces a Snowball Event, people are allowed to join the event location using the known Event Assistance NPC's. In this map, people can start giving their final hugs and kisses before being randomly separated into a big battle.

Once the timer ends, the Host proceeds to the next stage. You will now be warped to the next map, where you are either in team Maple or team Story. This is completely randomized, but both teams should have the same amount of players. The Host explains on the event using a command, before the final count down. You may now begin rolling the Snowball or hitting the Snowman!

Hi there, thank you for participating in our event game. Here's a little introduction about the game. [Snowball] consists of two teams, Team Maple and Team Story, the two teams duke it out to see which team rolls the Snowball further and bigger within a limited amount of time. If the game cannot be decided within the time period, the team that rolls the Snowball further wins. To roll up the snow, attack it by pressing "C" or your designated attack button. All long-ranged and skill-based attacks will not work here; only close-ranged attacks will. If a character touches the snowball, he/she will be sent back to the starting point. Attack the snowman in front of the starting point to prevent the opposing team from rolling the snowball forward. This is where a well-planned strategy works, as the team will decide whether to attack the Snowball or the Snowman. If you have any other questions regarding the game, feel free to ask during the game.

    The Snowman
    [IMG]
Found at the left side of each team is a Snowman. Hitting the Snowman with your regular attack yields either a 10 damage, 45 damage, or a miss. Killing the Snowman on your side temporary freezes the Snowball in the enemy's team; the Snowman revives almost immediately and you can repeat the process again.

Likewise, if the other team's Snowman dies, your Snowball freezes. This means team work and a good strategy is required to decide how many people hit Snowman, and how many people hit the Snowball. You may roll the Snowball faster with more people, but if the other team manages to freeze your Snowball more often with a foolproof strategy, you will still lose (shrugs).

    The Snowball
    [IMG]
You can only roll the Snowball with your regular attack. Touching the Snowball causes you to teleport back to where you begin. While this means you have to be careful, it also can be used as a strategy if you want start whacking the Snowman instead.

MapleStory used two versions of Snowball. In the earlier version, touching the Snowball teleport you back to where you begin, while in later version the Snowball only stuns you. Since GMS never updated their descriptions to reflect the stuns change, we decided to code the Snowball Event to exactly how old GMS did it; the first version. This is coded to be 100% GMS-like.

We prefer the old method as it allows one to alternate between the Snowman and the Snowball simultaneously whenever the teleportation happens. Well.. this switches up the game and makes it even more strategic and interesting ey? So, to hit the Snowman.. or the Snowball? You decide!

    May the best Team wins!

I like it; but one thing sticks out to me. Strategy is the key word here, but just how big would that be without being able to speak to your faction privately, without the other faction listening in?
That's not to say it won't be fun and/or appropriately challenging without that feature. But I think it really spices up the game if you can cook something up to surprise the other end. Just a thought SlimeSweat2

And yes, the video is really cute MapleF14 I'm gonna love this event.

Having just participated in this event, I wanna share my thoughts:
    • There's an unfortunate "snowballing" effect (pun intended) where the winning team will push further and further ahead as soon as it's clear who's in the lead. In the event I participated in, Team Story's victory was pretty much determined within the first couple minutes. Once players realize they're on the losing team, they're much more likely to leave or go AFK than to try and bring it back.
    • Team Story has a small tactical advantage in that they can block Team Maple's view with a big "@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@" spam text box. It may not seem like much, but combined with the snowball effect I mentioned earlier, any tiny advantage has the potential to be crucial.
    • It was pretty frustrating to be on the losing team the entire time and then receive no reward whatsoever at the end of the event. Not even a crappy Event Trophy! I just pushed a snowball for ten minutes for absolutely nothing. This adds even more to the snowball effect, because once someone realizes that they won't be getting any type of reward for all their effort, they'll probably just leave to go do something else. That definitely doesn't feel very christmasy.
That being said, it's a cool event and has potential!

    hi! Sorry!
    This may be a silly question but what NPC triggers this event? is it the 'Event Assistants'? I can't get into it for some reason ;^;

This is a GM hosted event, which means you can only enter once a GM hosts one. Yes, it's the Event Assistants and usually only in Channel 1.

Very interesting feedback. Since we just released this, we are still tweaking things along the way. Thank you for sharing :)
