GumiCareBear And Alpines' Archer Comparison Diary: Bow Vs. Crossbow Users

Hello there, this is GumiCareBear. Nice to meet all of you!

When I was creating my archer, I tried to "research" the differences between a bowmaster (bow) and marksman (xbow). And though I did find a few summaries, I didn't find much.

So I decided to create a diary along with my friend, Alpines to showcase the differences between my sniper and his ranger as well as our experiences playing archers.

Currently, we are:
GumiCareBear (Sniper)- lvl 114
Alpines (Ranger)- lvl 113

We will be including our damage comparisons, funding, mobbing ability, and bossing ability as we advance into 4th job. We will also be revisiting our old training spots to compare our utility at each location as well.

We hope through sharing our experiences as rangers and snipers will inspire you guys to create archers and join our archery blossom. Until next time!

 

12/30/18 Part one.
Welcome back everyone! It's time for the first formal post on our archers

For people who want to know about each class, I will be inserting tips and side notes in bold. These notes will include our thoughts as well. You will see I differentiate between the bow user class notes and the crossbow user class notes.

I shall also summarize these notes at the end of each the post.

Alpines at 117
He has started to wash at level 79.


He's trying for a 124 wep att bow at 200mil.
Alpines is still relatively new to Maplelegends and has never played gms maplestory before. He started with 0 funds and his archer is his first character. (He doesn't have any bishops )

Bow User Note: (Expensive Af Bows and Scrolls)

GumiCareBear at 114 cuz I couldn't get a good shot at 117.
I have started casual washing at lvl 76 for the hp cushion.


This crossbow was 55m
I have been played gms since 2005 and I started playing Maplelegends in December 2017. I have an 150+ ice/lightning mage, Holy symbol mule, hyperbody mule, speed infusion mule and more.)

Now you can compare our experience with maplelegends and fundings.

Crossbow User Notes: Less expensive end-game weapon than his bow. Scrolls about 1 mil or less.

In another post I will be showcasing and comparing our skill damages and training spot utility comparison.

It's been a few days and we managed to level up.

We also went on our first Papulatus Run.
IMPORTANT: THIS WAS A 3RD JOB ONLY PAP RUN.

Afterwards they killed the pianus but me and Alpines did not attend because of our low hp. (Maybe when were 4th job we can Pianus.

Both Bow and Crossbow notes: Archers typically have a lower pool.

If you plan to boss (eg. HT, Pap, Zak, Scar, Neo Tokyo): Prepare according.

If you plan to play for fun (and not boss): Do not worry. The gms have made hp washing optional. You can get hp in the form of equips: Ellin Rings, Monster Book Rings, and pendants.
Keep in mind that bossing parties typically will have Hyper Body for increased hp.

Alpines and I still highly recommend at least casual washing to tank those nasty 120+ monsters. It's a win-win.

Our HP Washing Thoughts:
It's your choice. Both sides have win-win situations.
With hp washing: More hp but your damage will be less at lower levels (1-150 depending on your goal)

Without hp washing: Less hp but you could easily do 6k-7k damage at level 100.

Welcome Back! It’s been a while. How is everyone?
In this post, I’ll be covering the archer 1st job class skills, easy quests, and training spots for level 10-30.

So, without further ado. Here we go!

Updates!
What have we been doing?
We’ve both reached 4th job! I’m level 126 and Alpines is level 124! I don't have a SS of Alpines tho..


Fourth Job Advance
Here’s some screenshots from our 4th job Advancement. Thanks to Op4Bish, ZionT, Dkrai (Matt), and all the people that helped us kill Manon and Griffery!


Fyi: Alpines is maxing Sharp Eyes (SE) first as Bowmasters do. But because I’m a marksman, I don’t NEED SE maxed first so I’ll be raising snipe. I’ll get Alpines to give me Sharp Eyes if I need it. Mehahaha.

It’s good to have an archer partner. I suggest finding your own archer friend and pairing up. It great for training and for using each other for SE. >



As far as skills, Bowmasters and Marksmans both need an ancient book (green book) to start the quest with Bowmasters getting Concentrate from the quest and Marksmans getting Snipe from the quest. So both me and Alpines had to hunt so Kargos for a looong time.

We also got all of our 4th job skills including Frostprey, Phoenix, and dragon's breath.


Crossbow User Notes: Our Dragon Breath skill is important for training so don't neglect it! Bowmasters... eh they don't NEED to get it because they have hurricane so it's lower on their priority list. This skill is from the El Nath pq so be sure to pair up with a stanceless warrior.

So I won't be comparing our MM vs BM damage till I’ve maxed snipe first and then I’ll compare our them. Stay Tuned!

I installed the Post Big Bang skill update for Strafe. I wanted to have my strafe look different for 4th job so at least I felt like I was getting a new skill for 4th as I will be using it for a long time.

JohnOmok Thoughts: He said this guide is outdated and his found better spots to use mage ultimate. He might get around to making the updated guide. But this one is still great.

My 1st Job Skill Guide

As far as which skills to raise, Alpines and I have different opinions. But here is how I did it.


Step: 1: 1 SP into Arrow blow for Double Shot. Then 1 SP Double Shot.

Step 2: Max Critical Shot

Step 3: Max Double Shot

Step 4: Max Eye of the Amazon

Step 5: Raise Focus to level 11

Step 6: Add the rest of the points in The Blessing of the Amazon


I went with this build because I grinded my way through first job (not leeching) and I thought his build would help me the most.

I raised Double Shot just to have it and then I maxed critical shot because I thought this would give me the greatest damage boost.

If I maxed Double Shot first, I would be doing two lines of maybe 80 dmg.

With Critical Shot maxed first, I would be doing 1 line of 30 dmg and like 230 dmg from a critical which allowed me to kill pigs faster.

I then I maxed Double Shot for more damage, and finally raised Eye of the Amazon for the longer arrow range.

I didn’t max Focus because I will be maxing Focus and The Blessing of the Amazon in 2nd job, but more on that later.

If I had to choose between raising The Blessing of the Amazon or Focus, I would choose Focus first because you get both accuracy and avoid. And The Blessing of the Amazon only gives accuracy.

But archers already have high accuracy so… no huge advantage there.


First Job Quest Guide

Aka: Important Quests that give HELLA exp (and easy AF).

After doing a bunch of quests, theres are the ones that are most efficient to level and least time consuming.

Level 10: Whalians and the Nautilus. (Nautilius)

Needed: 1 Mana Elixir and then touch the blue stone in the room next door.


Level 15: Abels Lost Glasses (Nautilius)

Needed: Find his glasses



Level 15 New Leaf City Quiz (New Leaf City)

From the mayor. Click the lost option: I want to take the quiz. This should level you to Level 16 and maybe 60%.


Level 15: John’s and the Pink Violet

This quest is a jumping quest in sleepywood. Not as much exp but you will need the 10 screws for a different quest.


Level 20 Shumi’s Lost Coin (Kerning City)

Levels you to level 21


Level 20 Legend of the Snail (Henesys)

Mano’s Quest.

Needed: 10 of each snail shell. And travel around a bit

Levels you from 21 to 22


Level 19/20?: Toon Fixing the Roof (Thailand)

Needed: 10 screws (from the john pink violet quest)

You get maybe 60% exp?



Level 19/20 Thawee Fixing the Roof (Thailand)

Needed: 50 Tree Branches and 50 Firewood

You get maybe 50% of exp?


Level 20 Planting Trees (Perion) (MAYBE if you want)

From Winston in Easy Rocky Mountain 2

Needed: 54 seedlings from Ghost stump


Level 23 Camila's Gem (Henesys)

Go to Utah's Farm which is the top left corner of The Forest East of Henesys. Then there you need to get to Utah. The trick is to go to the haystack furthest from you. That’s all.

You get a good 50% exp from this quest


Level 23 POLLUTED: Zombie Mushroom and POLLUTED: Horny Mushroom Signs in Ant Tunnel 3 and 4. (Sleepwood)

99 of each mob then go to the Rememberer


Level 25: Strange Dish 1 (Nautilus)

Needed: 50 Evil Eye Tails. Also get 10 Evil Eye Tails for quest: Lazy Little Calico (Nautilius)

(Do this quest with Level 25: POLLUTED! Evil Eye Sign and Level 25 Quest: Lazy Little Calico)

Level 25: POLLUTED! Evil Eye Sign
Kill 99 evil eyes

Level 25 Quest: Lazy Little Calico
Get 10 Evil Eyes tails

OPTIONAL but recommended for Hunters and Crossbowman.
Level 29: Mr. Wetbottom’s Secret Book

This quest levels you from level 29 to close to level 30. You also need to do this quest as a prequest for Level 36: Cursed Doll quests from (Roowen?) in Ellinia.

Since hunters and crossbowman train at Zombie Lupins anyway from level 34 to level 40s, you will be able to turn in your etc drops for exp.


Training Guide

Level 10 to level 20: Henesys pq. Aka moon bunny pq.

Level 20 to level 30: Genins at Ninja Castle.

Blog 3: Maxing SE and Snipe
Welcome Back all, everyone thanks for hanging in there.

Because I maxed snipe first from level 120-130. This is how people looked at me when people were asking me to come zak and I told them i had level 0 SE.

Cuz fuck you too law

(At this time, Alpines had class so hasn't been on for weeks so I had no SE mule sad)

Me: LOL too bad I want more dps ;P.
So I grinded and trained and leech and finally after millions of years...
I'm 140 now! So my Sharp Eyes (SE) and Snipe are maxed!



But its the moment you all have been waiting for.. My dpm.
So I tested my dmg and I got 4.1m per minute.

Lsat (Law): jesus you're lit
So next skill to max is Marksman boost <3.

So to the new MMs who ask which should I max first?:

Crossbow User Notes: Should I Max Snipe or Sharp Eyes First?
I mean it's up to you. There are pros and cons of both.
Pros
1. You can train at higher level places like Shaolin Temple with no problem at level 130. Especially if you have Dragon's Breath
2. No one drags you to bosses before you can get exp from them at 135. You are an independent marksman who aint a SE mule for no one.
3. When you do boss you do more dmg at bosses like BF and zak and you can get more exp solo.
4. Since everyone is still maxing their 1st and 2nd skills. You will be the strongest person out there. Mwahahaha.

Cons
1. Lower dmg from 120-130 depending on who you're asking
2. You don't get to boss in the main attackers party (cuz you don't have SE and your party finds another person for SE in the main party)
3. 120-130 is hard to level because Snipe is 4 minutes and 30 second CD. As you level it the CD goes down.
(So you're kinda useless until level 130)

Final Thoughts: Unless you have a 4th job mage to help leech you from 120 to maybe 140. I would say max SE first just because it's higher dmg.
I tried it so you all don't have to!

So ya. Pick your poison.
So what have I been doing since then?

Anego (12k dmg per slap)

It took a few tries to pin it. Rip Crayo. I died like 10 times too. I was using a useless video lol.
But Eventually...

There we go. We got it. Thanks to Luscious for killing Anego xD.

Alpines is busy at school and I was bored so I been decorating my characters

I decorated my characters like this because it was almost the autmn moon festival so I thought i would dress my characters up like those moon goddess folktale pictures.

The DominantBear is my archer that I created a LONG time ago but I never leveled so I decided to level it and dress it up like Kanna (the shamoness from GMS).

Hm not that i know of. All i know is that snipe does about 200k a hit Hope that helps. Super late response tho
