Can't see my friend's buddy chat messages

Description of the bug: For what I believe has been the past week or more, my friend and I have been having issues with our buddy chat. He can see my messages but I can't see his. Neither of our viewing options for each other are disabled and game options are set to default.

What is supposed to happen?: happy fun times talking to each other ;w;

Where did you find and/or notice this bug?: I thought he was busy when I never got a response whenever I talked to him but today he invited me to a chatroom asking what the heck happened and why I hadn't responded to any of his messages in a long time. Apparently he had been talking to me but I hadn't been able to see any of his buddy chats.

Extra information: Again, neither of our viewing options are disabled (though we did try disabling and re-enabling to see if that would fix it—didn't). We also both relogged and even deleted and re-added each other to see if that would work but nope. Whispers and regular chat seem to be working fine. As far as I know, this issue isn't happening with any of my other friends.

1) Yeah, I'm able to hear other people on guild chat and ally chat. I'm not sure if this particular friend happens to be the only one I'm missing messages from or if I'm missing messages from others too and I just haven't been able to tell yet.

2) Yes, I'm sure. We both disabled and re-enabled each other's viewing options to see if that would work but sadly, no.

3) I'm not sure when exactly, since my friend was away for a few days about a week or two ago, and I can't think of any particular event that could have caused it.

4) As far as I know, I can hear all of my other buddies and they can see my messages as well.

Yes, both the ear/mouth icons are coloured for us. The issue is still happening though.
