Unfortunately impossible in MapleLegends, as the weapon doesn't exist for some reason :/ (although it does exist in the library).

rangifer’s diary: pt. vi

Whew! Today was quite the mapling session…! I started off today, as you’d expect, LPQing it up~ Boymoder, being the speed demon she is, now has a roughly half-dozen level lead over rangifer! We did some LPQs and met (and met back up with) several lovely people . And Mings, ally (and guildmate, on another character) permabeginner , was able to join us! Here’s da LPQ gang at one point in our LPQscapades:



His name is a bit obscured in this screenshot, but the name of the second-from-the-left character is StabApples . We did a number of LPQs with him, and he told us about a new guild on MapleLegends by the name of Beginner (at least, I do believe it was singular… maybe it was “Beginners”…). Beginner is a relatively new guild that, from what I understand, is quite similar to Oddjobs : the guild is dedicated to odd-jobbed characters, like permabeginners , but also including many others. Hopefully Beginner can join the Suboptimal alliance one day! It wasn’t until after a number of LPQs that StabApples found out that I was the leader of Oddjobs:



StabApples was looking to make an HP warrior ️️️, and decided he wanted to join Oddjobs, so the guild now has a level 16 HP warrior by the name of DontDie ☠️! I hope to one day see DontDie shred apart the golems in LPQ!! At that point our LPQ party had naturally dissolved, and Boymoder went to go card hunt while StabApples created DontDie.

I myself went to hop on my I/L ️ magelet, cervine, to farm up those 100 wrapping papers at Kid Mannequins. Ally and permabeginner extraordinaire OmokTeacher (you may know him as Slime; he created the permabeginner guide on the MapleLegends forums) was in Taipei 101 as well, just the map directly above me, so I went to say hi ! At the same time, Outside (a.k.a. braidgame, TestChars) was creating a brand spankin’ new LUK warrior ⚔️ by the name of Dodogge (from “Dodge” → “Dod” + “ge” → “Dod” + “og” + “ge”), to be a member of Oddjobs:

The intent is to go the spearman route in order to get Hyper Body as a party buff (especially for guild-only and alliance-only boss runs), while maximising AVOID and still getting some viable melee ⚔️ damage options in third job (Dragon Fury , Crusher, Dragon Roar ). Check out some of the sweet AVOID-centric equipment Dodogge has lined up!:







The Christmas Tree is not a weapon for serious combat, of course, but is useful in cases where Dodogge really only wants/needs the extra AVOID (this one, in particular, has a total AVOID of 14 ✨).

After I had said hi to OmokTeacher and went back down to finish up my 100 papers (and leveled cervine up from 93 to 94!! ), OmokTeacher and I decided to check out Warped Path of Time ⏳ 4 (Spirit Vikings ). OmokTeacher had suggested to me that I try out Spirit Vikings on my level 98 woodman , capreolina. There is a spot at the bottom of the map where you can stand on a smol platform and use area-of-effect attacks to whittle the Spirit Vikings down. Generally, archers (due to Arrow Rain ️ and Arrow Eruption ) and I/L mages (due to Ice Strike ) are the ones who are capable of this, so it could be a decent spot for cervine as well! Now, Spirit Vikings have a boatload ⛵ (pun intended) of HP (50k) and quite a bit of WDEF as well (830), so they do take a good while to whittle down, but naturally have high EXP to make up for it (2.1k before multipliers). I’m still getting the hang of this map, since it can be difficult for me to properly lure the Spirit Vikings. The ones on bottom require me to come down to them to be lured (unlike using Ice Strike and hitting them from the platforms above, Arrow Rain does not have quite that low of a bottom edge on its hitbox; only the smol middle platform is low enough for Arrow Rain to reach down), and the ones on top have to be treated very carefully, so that I don’t get knocked off by their magic attacks (which deal damage to me equal to roughly 50% of my MAXHP).

OmokTeacher accompanied me with his I/L ️ archmage , Slimu, and showed me how to duck down (down arrow key) when on the smol platform in order to dodge magic attacks and force the Spirit Vikings closer… at which point they are too close to magic attack you. I tried bit of a shaky EPM (experience per minute) test , using @epm 5; Slimu was not partied with me, but was killing some mobs up higher on the map, so I had some advantage from that, hopefully making up for my poor manoeuvering… The result (extrapolated out to 60 minutes) was roughly 2.22M EPH (experience per hour). That’s some very solid EPH , but I was sure that I was getting higher EPH at Taipei 101 ; I had already done another (also a tad shaky) EPM test at Kid Mannequins on cervine, and got 2.16M EPH or so. That’s less than 2.22M EPH, obviously, but capreolina is quite a bit swifter at dispatching mannequins than cervine is, so I expected it to be much better for capreolina. Plus, with 50k HP and 830 WDEF, Spirit Vikings were just a slow place to farm 100 wrapping papers anyways . Maybe I’ll come back later for the still decent EXP and much less potion burn ! And just to be sure, I ran yet another @epm 5 with capreolina at Male Mannequins: roughly 3.38M EPH !! Wowza. The potion burn is pretty hefty though, as Male Mannequins can hit me for anywhere from 1.3k~2.3k damage (depending on the attack and whether or not they are powered up) per hit, which is a lot to withstand (and thus a lot of fairly inefficient Barbarian Elixir consumption) for poor capreolina, who only has 3.3k MAXHP or so .

Eventually it was back to LPQing again~~ I met some more lovely people — including BeepBipBoop, who is a cutie and should not be ashamed of their female character ✨ — and leveled rangifer up to a whopping level 44! And Boymoder hit level 50~! And she was off in search of Zakum prequests and then a Zakum Helmet >;D. Here we are duoing Alishar :



We’re pretty stronk at this point, so duoing Alishar was a piece of cake! I’m pretty sure Boymoder whited Alishar in at least two of our LPQs, with that super OP Guan Yu (94 WATK, if I recall correctly)!! Here’s a little look at rangifer’s stats at level 44:



When fighting Alishar, I simply pop on my 11 WACC, 2 DEX Sad Mask for the extra ≈13 WACC, in favor of my slightly more damage-oriented 1 WATK Rudolph’s Red Nose .

rangifer’s diary: pt. vii

First thing I did today was farm up 100 wrapping papers on my I/L ️ magelet cervine, and then hopped on rangifer to attempt some kind of catching up ‍♀️ with Boymoder! Boymoder was not online at the time, but had already went and gotten a Zakum Helmet(!!), and was still at level 50 (for lack of a final Alishar card to complete her set). Unfortunately for me, at the time, LPQ was basically dead… It took upwards of 20 minutes or so to actually scrounge up a functional party, but I was able to get in a few LPQs. I met CalmTofu, an F/P wizard ‍♀️ who was very nice and who I am now buddied with! Also on my buddylist now are Gluck and meh1234; Gluck and his brother, GIuck (Giuck), are two Estonians playing twinned mages , and meh1234 is a Dutch up-and-coming assassin ✴️✴️ just playing the game casually!!

That party naturally dissolved as both Glucks left and meh1234 had to leave as well. After a brief break, I wanted to keep LPQing, so I went to channel 1 in search of a new party. At this point LPQ was a little more happenin’, but it still proved quite difficult to put together a functional party. In fact, we had a party of 5 going, but with no one who could fight at range (and thus no way to pass stage 7), it was going to be difficult to fill that last spot. A fighter ⚔️ by the name of zerotozero (or as I address her, 020) convinced us through sheer charisma ✨ alone to accept her into the party and go as a group of 6… without any range. Not being able to pass stage 7 would mean just completing the first 6 stages and then calling it quits , but the rest of the party was accepting enough of the idea that we indeed ventured forth, without any party members so cowardly as to pick off their foes from a distance !

Besides none of us being capable of ranged combat, none of us were very good at combat in general… Being the odd job that rangifer is (pugilist , in particular), it’s already enough of a struggle to stay relevant in combat (although I make for great crowd control!!). But in this case, I was very nearly carrying the party ! We even had with us Lokun, a very friendly permabeginner with whom I’ve done many an LPQ, but who was unfortunately unable to deal any damage, because he is HP washing ⛑️ so hard (beginners are actually considerably worse off than even archers/sins/gunslingers when it comes to HP)! We… actually did quite a number of half-LPQs like this, getting through it with nothing other than a lot of jokes and good fun socialising !

We also found out that rangifer is actually ranged , with her fists !! At least, I can kill the bottom rat in stage 7, haha. This is, unfortunately, little more than a party trick, since I have no way of killing the other two rats . I even filmed myself doing it during one of the attempts , and although it’s a rocky start, I get the satisfaction of hitting a rat from range for a whopping 2.45k damage with just one Corkscrew Blow!! Take that, anyone who thought rangifer’s name was a corruption of “range” (it’s not; Rangifer is the genus of reindeer ), and was taken aback by my brawler status!

Joining the strugglebus later, was Boymoder! She got to complete her Alishar card set and show off her incredible damage (at least, for an odd job) using her newfangled zhelm, and of course her epic-level Guan Yu mentioned in the previous diary entry ^^

Boymoder was the range that we needed, and once JohnTheWand (a.k.a. John “The Wand” Johnson; pictured above) had to leave, a party member of ours — a spearman by the name of moma — stepped in with his I/L ️ wizard so that we would still be capable of doing the “mage portal” in stage 5. Unfortunately for moma, there really was no one else out in the channel 1 LPQ lobby to replace JohnTheWand other than himself… I say “unfortunately”, because playing a mage in LPQ made moma’s head hurt . Even worse is the fact that we were often forced to go as a party of 5, putting more burden on the mage during stage 5. And LTDxyz (pictured above), at around this time, was helping his roommate out with something IRL (something very sweaty , it seems, as he complained about being sweaty afterwards), so several of our runs were effectively with a party of 4. LPQers will know that stage 8 of LPQ requires at least 5 characters, and will also know that in order to clear a stage, all party members must be present. So LTDxyz couldn’t be completely AFK the entire time… and I’m not exactly sure how it happened, but it became a custom to simply spam the chat ️️ with a multitude of excessively long messages like “REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE” until LTDxyz finally took notice , and came to the next map — or switched to a different box (stage 8), as the case may have been.

Boymoder had been popping in and out of the FM ️ during the times that we were in-between LPQs, and she managed to scroll herself some really nice 10 LUK Skull Earrings !!:


Somehow, these LPQs that probably would have been considered “miserable” by most peoples’ standards were extremely fun for us (at least, for everyone except moma, who claimed to be miserable… and maybe also for LTDxyz, who was not exactly having the funnest time doing sweaty things…), thanks to the people that we were with , and the struggles that we collectively encountered (and surmounted!) along the way .



…And then the power went out ⬛ in my neck of the forest , so this diary post is a bit late ️ >.<

rangifer’s diary: pt. viii

As usual for this event, the first thing I did today was farm up 100 wrapping papers on my I/L ️ magelet cervine… Then it was time to LPQ !!!! I was lucky enough to LPQ with ally and permabeginner drainer (mae, also known in-game as the priest technopagan and the gish ️✨ raving)~ I met mae when I was OPQing with my swashbuckler ⚔️‍☠️, hydropotina, so it was very nice to be reunited with her and PQing again (but this time, LPQ style)!!



We were looking for a ranged character at one point, and all we found was another brawler . But, I knew (from experience playing my swashbuckler) that guns were prefectly capable of acting as the range required for LPQ. The brawler in question had their starter gun with them still, and they were able to pick up some bullets from the local shop . I was convinced that this would do the trick, since I never had any issues on my swashbuckler (despite being pure STR ), and there is no pirate ‍☠️ equivalent of Keen Eyes ️. However, when we got to stage 7, they were actually completely incapable of hitting the rats !! They had gone for Dash instead of Double Shot, so my only explanation, as far as I could tell, was that Double Shot has longer range than basic-attacking with a gun.

After a few LPQs, though, LPQ got kinda dead as everyone left . And mae had been staying up pretty late , so she decided that it was time to go and sleep . After a while, I ended up getting picked up by another group who auctioned me off for a mere 35 mesos ;(



Luckily, even if some people (looking at you, locki…) seemed to not deem me worth 35 mesos , sooyaaa95 had my back…

After a few more LPQs, rangifer was some 18% of the way through level 48, and I decided to take a break to farm wrapping papers … but this time, on my woodman , capreolina! I’ve actually just filmed a roughly 2-minute demo video of me playing my woodman, which you can watch on the Oddjobs YouTube channel !! Once I finished up gathering my 200th wrapping paper that session , I proceeded to get even more worthless garbage ️ from Santa's Helper! Wow, cool !

At this point, I hopped on my STR priest , cervid, because my friend Justin (known in-game as Justinorino, or, in this case, as Sopooroh) needed some help at CDs ; I would be there to furiously Heal ❤️‍ (with most of my magelet’s gear on, and a Wizard Elixir ‍♀️⚗️ active, I’m able to achieve a TMA of a whopping 249 with just 20 base INT!) as he rawr’d the CDs to death ☠️. This went quite well — especially after we figured out that it was best for him to cast Hyper Body for my benefit, then cancel it out on himself so that he lost a smaller absolute quantity of HP per rawr. That way my STR-mage-trying-really-hard Heals would not be so ineffective, as they somewhat were with his nearly 30k HP when Hyper Body was active .

Then, once Justin was done training, I went back to researching gear upgrades . I’ve spent a lot of cash (which I do not regret; the fact is that INT/MATK gear has, unfortunately, extremely inflated prices due to the existence of washing & leeching ) outfitting my magelet, and it’s time that I do something similar with the rest of my characters. Fortunately, I’ve chosen the rest of my character’s jobs such that they are all essentially pure STR … they all crave WATK, DEX, WACC, and — to some extent — STR, on their gear. For this reason, I do a lot of gear sharing ♻️, and at the moment, the mainstays of this shared gear are (not counting temporary items, of course):

rangifer’s diary: pt. ix

So this is a bit of a tough one, but only because I have peepee poopoo brain and can’t remember anything that happened more than 10 minutes ago. I didn’t really have time to start this diary entry “on schedule”… not that there really is a schedule, but I’ve been trying to start writing these things every roughly 24 hours or so, mostly because of aforementioned peepee poopoo brain affecting my ability to even recall stuff that happened. But that’s OK, as I’ve got plenty of pretty pictures ️ for this one…!

That’s not rangifer!

I played some of my other characters~ My I/L ️ magelet, cervine, is still spamming Ice Strike ❄️ at Kid Mannequins. And my woodman , capreolina, is still getting beaten to a pulp by Male Mannequins! Wow!

In other news, my swashbuckler ⚔️‍☠️, hydropotina, received quite the upgrade! She hit level 85, which means it’s time to put on those Sky Skis ☁️ that I purchased a while ago!! You can watch her doing fatty damage with it (and with her Canon Shooter !) on the Oddjobs YouTube channel ! I’ll be MPQing on this character until I hit level 86~

Equipment upgrade

In the previous diary entry, I mentioned wanting to upgrade the equipment of my physical-attacking characters (i.e. all of them except cervine). To that end, I’ve already snagged some upgrades! Check it out!!:



That’s 4 extra DEX!



That’s 1 fewer DEX, but 2 extra WATK!!



Also losing DEX here (2 DEX, in particular), but gaining 3 extra WATK!!! (…and 5 extra MDEF. Nice.)

These were some tough upgrades to make, not just due to cost, but also knowing that I’m losing some stats (3 DEX) by upgrading the WATK gear. This is, thankfully, made up for by the earring upgrade, so there’s a net gain of +1 DEX and +5 WATK!

Name thief!!

As some people may know, I used to have a STR cleric by the name of deer (not on MapleLegends, though). When I came to MapleLegends, I found that this name was already taken!! So I named my STR priest cervid, and my woodman capreolina (previously known, somewhat confusingly, as “cervid”, renamed to “capreolina” once my STR priest had taken that name). I looked up “deer” on the rankings a while ago, and found an inactive level 13 warrior had taken the name. Today, however, I saw a smega from them! So I tracked them down (read: used /find) to see if they really were real:



Alas… ‘tis too late now. I’ve already five(!) characters, and a longstanding name for each one.

rangifer LPQs to 50

I did some more LPQs on rangifer, enough to get me to level 50 (woohoo!) and roughly 50% EXP. I had the privilege of playing with a friend who I’d previously met at LPQ, CalmTofu, and met a new friend, ImaSheep (imasheep)! ImaSheep taught me how to play 52 pickup with the passes in LPQ (“spread ‘em out”)… then the leadership post was passed to me, and then I was the recipient of this little game:



Throwing your garbage ETC items down with the passes really helps to spice up a classic game of 52 pickup, it seems.



Now that I’m level 50, expect to see some hot Zakum prequest action in the future, and some (oh yes, lots of) OPQ ✨.
