    Poll results don't lie

Why do people say Mayso's. It's not mayonnaise.

I've always heard it as ME-SO. It was my understanding that the ME was literally meant as the person playing the game and the SO was just an add-on to indicate it was currency like the Peso.

I do pronounce it like this sometimes, but other i do change the sound of s for a z sound.
Maybe the way that "mesozoic" (very specifc exemple, lol) is said in Portuguese and English give the general scope of my pronounciation of the word.

Now... i've never found the ones that say Ma"y"so.

English is such a mutt of a language that the family terms Husband, Wife, Son, and Daughter, all come from four different languages. There is a reason for every rule and sound in every English word. Some of the reasons are easy to see, others are very hidden. If you DOUBT me, just check out why there is a silent B in Doubt...

If that intrigues you enough, I recommend the History of the English Language podcast: https://historyofenglishpodcast.com/

The video i posted was not to diminish the the complexity of the english language, just a joke that i think fits the general topic. It should not to be taken as a serious critique of its characteristics. To be frank, i think the video kinda makes the point that it would be really strange (and how much would be lost) if said language was consistent through a very absurd effort of making it consistent.

I had no ill intent, believe me.
And ill listen to the podcast and video recommended. :) Thanks.

Oh my goodness! I wasn't discounting or dismissing your video at all! I've seen it before, and there's good reason to believe Old English sounded very similar to that! I was adding to your post, not trying to diminish it at all.
