Hmm, I think when the size of the hoarding group has stabilised then yes it wouldn't contribute, but for now, I think it's increasing in size, which creates an unnecessary higher demand on white scrolls. And we all already know that there is increasing demand for WS, which is reflected in the price, but having an extra group of people trying to artificially pull down the supply for the time period in order to push the price even higher, sounds like a shitty but smart thing to do. Do we really want to encourage hoarding behaviour?

While I agree with your first point, I don't think a transient problem demands a permanent solution.

If the second point is really an issue (if there are extremely wealthy sellers deliberately manipulating desperate buyers), you just have to be more patient and buy them when they're cheap.

I haven't really mentioned a bunch of other, more practical problems either -- for example, having WS expire if you are tmp. banned/forget to sell them, feeling like you are on a 200m-clock to sell off any WS you get, players buying out the entire FM after going 0/20 because nobody has any in storage, etc.

This is why I feel like my suggestion earlier in the thread where they expire to trade-locked is reasonable. They are still usable for your character and you can still sell WS service. It just helps eliminate them as a means of currency. I've heard of at least 1 person who has over 100 WS, and it is regularly smega'd for high ticket items in terms of WS trade and not just in mesos trade. They should not be used as a form of currency or a tax evasion but due to game limitations currently in place, that has become the norm.

Do you mind listing more of the practical problems?

I think a 1 month expiry is long enough that even if you got temporary banned you can resell it in time. That's also a long enough time for you to think what you should be doing with the white scroll and encourage some action.

Not sure what players buying out the FM actually affects. If there is a constant new supply and a time limit, feels like it is less prone to price manipulation than just hoarding idea. Sure, someone can buy out the FM but if they are not gonna use it, it's just a waste of meso. They can also speculate, but few big whales trying to manipulate prices will definitely get backfire with the expire date I think.

Those were my biggest problems. I occasionally go on hiatuses, and it'd be unpleasant to know that I need to log back on to make sure I sell my white scrolls. And to be honest, I really dislike holding on to large sums of mesos. WS expiry is not going to solve the issue of WS getting more expensive, so I prefer holding on to actual items that can guarantee better gear in the long term.

As for whether or not "whales" profiteer off of manipulating WS prices, I was honestly entertaining the possibility for argument's sake. For a 200m scroll, you'd need to make at least a 10m difference to not lose money to tax, not to mention the ridiculous amount of risk you'd be taking to hope that people don't catch on to your strategy for what is essentially a 10-20% return at best. A quick glance at WS prices (over 3-4 month periods) should tell you that this is not really viable. If you have any explicit proof of players doing this (other than player x has 100ws), feel free to correct me.

Lastly, I don't understand what is wrong with players using their time to buy stuff they want - almost like some person spent thousands of hours selling leech, made an unbelievable amount of money, and then complaining that their gears are too good. If these guys wanted to, they could've cashed in all of the WS/CS by just scrolling gears and the economy would've been no different. That's 100ws they earned and should be free to use it as they wish.

Honestly this whole thing sounds like ML could really use a bank.

...y'know, if anyone has sufficient cash on-hand and the desire to manage a literal bank, that could probably be arranged. Would be a lot of work (something tells me setting up a website frontend would make it easier), but if done right it'd be rather beneficial- players could have howevermany mesos as they want, all in a centralized fashion. The only particular problem would be whoever's actually running the bank dealing with the fees involved in splitting all of those mesos across however many mules as necessary to store everyone's cash.

Hell, could even make it profitable- give out loans (appropriately- no usury), and then make it desirable to even have said bank account by providing interest to reflect the profit made from said loans. Who needs to worry about WS prices when you can just get a loan from the bank to cover the cost, and then pay the interest until you save up enough cash to pay down the principle?

With a reasonable credit system set up, you could have entire transactions processed without anyone having to manually trade a single meso. Which, relatively speaking, sounds like the tax-dodging problem mentioned before, but the tax is applied on deposits and withdrawals.

Of course every transaction would have to be logged to catch would-be RWT efforts, but I imagine if it's all set up with a good backend database it might be even easier to catch that here than in the game itself.

(This idea is totally not thought out properly and is surely a disaster. Please do not try to start a bank without at least thinking it through more than I have)

If u manage to get to 2.1bn then you win congrats!!!!! quit the game and start a new char from scratch, it is the economical win condition.:D
but seriously such a number sims wack to me, I play casually as a mage and the highest meso number I had was around 300 mil and that was because I sold a WS.

TAX the rich !!! all those bilioners!!!

The solution is simple honestly it's clear the devs are trying to reduce the price of WS by adding cwk exchange quest, and a chance to win it through the event npc. So why not slightly increase the chance of getting it through gacha and or make the cwk exchange quest much easier. The badges themselves are already somewhat uncommon and having to get 45 of all badges+crimson hearts is just a long hassle that isn't worth it, especially considering the player is basically rolling for 4/8 items.

I think it is a problem to change the game to allow you to achieve the perfect end-game weapon in an easy/fast manner.
The way I see it is that it will harm the identity of the server of a grindy and hard vanilla server, for example to increase exp rate to fix good grinding maps shortage because it is hard and takes a lot of time to get to lvl 200, sounds like a nice solution but it may harm the server's identity.

so we hit a brick wall because from one side we want to be able to make the most OP gear in an achievable time frame but it should not be too easy, this sounds not a big problem, but from the other side, we have the insanely sweaty 8 multiclient mage farmers which achieve in a week (income-wise) what I achieved in 2 years of playing.
so if you allow casual players to create OP gear in an achievable time, the sweatys will overflow the market with it and complain that it is too easy/not an achievement/other complaints, but if you take the sweaty players into account and make it that way that OP gear is achievable in a normal time if you are a sweaty, then the casual player will not be able to get OP gear ( like we have now, sorry but 2bn is a stupid number and not achievable playing 6-10 hours a week) and they will complain that it is to expansive/takes to long.

EDIT: sorry for grammar... english is not my strong language.

At this point its not even about perfect items. You see people selling non perfect items for 10-25ws+ at a time and let me tell you, if you're a casual player aiming for some endgame (though not perfect) item and you see a smega of some dude selling his whatever item for 15ws you sure as shit won't go: "well, I guess I'll spend all the mesos I grinded on White Scrolls so I can buy this guys item! Oh but I don't want to buy overpriced ones, so I'll camp the market for a few weeks and only buy reasonably/underpriced ones even though I technically might already have the mesos the item is worth!"

You'll see that smega and go "hell no, I ain't buying that", no normal player will run around with 40ws sitting in their inventory as some sort of other currency, you'll literally keep trading your items to another ws hoarding sweatlord who will eventually get banned for RWT OMEGALUL
You're not engaging with the community at all or helping the servers economy, you're just creating your own currency, used in your own subgroup.
You will never, ever trade with a player who isn't farming on a mage or running multiple clients at once. I have no issue with perfect items remaining in the sweat community, they earned that right, but I do have an issue with people selling non perfect gear for ws, not even considering mesos.

So tbh I'm in favor of an expiration date which turns into a trade lock on White scrolls aswell, not like it'll ever happen though.

I have not read the last 6 pages throughout, but I believe the actual reason for the lack of supply of white scroll (ws) is that Maplelegends doesn't have many new players to generate ws from our current 3 sources. (Raffle, Gacha and Crimson wood)

    * I think in order to fix the ws price we need to advertise better for our server fx Twitch, Youtube, twitter, instagram (Good luck not getting banned) or
    * gms could fix the price of ws to fx. 140m, meaning it can't be traded for more or less, same principle with chaos scroll for whatever price. (honestly, I don't see this happening unless it's a last resort thing) or
    * increase chances for the current 3 sources. When Pink Bean got released (again) it for sure increased the demand of ws, so increase the supply already.

Maybe this is the opposite reaction of what we saw with the corona players coming to ML 14 months ago where ws dropped to 100m, maybe now it's just opposite, people are starting to work again leaving Maplelengeds to do irl stuff making ws increase in price. If this is the case gm's can't wait 2-3 months to adjust chances of ws and chaos scroll. Also maybe its too early to tell if ws to 200m is the norm might just be the riches players buffering the price up there for a week to earn more after that the prices might decrease since no one is going to buy ws to 200m therefor supply of ws increases meaning ws value decreases, but only time will tell.

Any way to see quick results I believe one of those 3 things has to happen there might be things that can be done like putting an expiration date on ws and cs, but idk about this. Just throwing in some ideas in here might have been said already, but whatever this is post nr 116 f3

Your English is fine don't worry. Also who cares about what some sweaty end game players cry about the game being not so hard. The point is for the ws scrolls to go down and be affordable so the average player can somewhat reasonably afford them. The general conscious of the cwk exchange quest atm is it's just not the worth it due to 4/8 items being complete junk/time consuming. Also let's not forget you basically have be 125+ to reliably farm the badges. Finally, Kimmy and the rest can just keep an eye on ws prices if they drop too hard they can easily revert changes.

What differentiates this server from others is the time:reward ratio. When things are too easy the servers never last more than a year. The moderate difficulty level of maplelegends is what allowed it to become the most successful private server since pre-bb gms. This suggestion of making ws and cs affordable for the average player defeats the purpose of these scrolls. They are supposed to be expensive and rare and for use in perfecting weapons, not for the average player. WS and CS are already more widely available than gms, making them even easier to get would be detrimental in my opinion.

It's not about making it easier, it's about slowing down the goalposts from moving further and further back due to on-going fluctuation of prices.

I totally agree there's a problem with ws prices, I'm just saying increasing availability to that extent doesn't seem like a good idea and goes against the spirit of the server

I might have an unpopular perspective, but I think if white scrolls dropped in price enough, we'd see less of a power creep because people would opt for perfecting timeless weapons more. Power creep is hard to manage due to transferability of end-game equity without penalty. This is why most people still opt to perfect dragon/NT weapons over Timeless. 10 white scrolls that are consumed to pass a slot on a timeless weapon are locked behind that character, while 10 white scrolls that are consumed to pass a slot on a transferrable weapon add to the end-game saturation of the entire server. These are two different variables that both contribute to the entire server's status of power creep - but in different ways.
