Revert Pink Bean to Two Clears Per Week

Discussion in 'Suggestions' started by Gurk, Jul 13, 2021.

Would you like to see Pink Bean clears reverted back to two per week?

I would like to propose that PB clears be changed back to twice a week. At this point in time there is very little content worth doing with respect to bossing. Once a player reaches end game, there is really only PB and HT (perhaps NT one day). So when PB was changed from two runs a week to one clear a week, it felt as if the amount of worthy content in the game had been significantly reduced.

The given explanation for why Pink bean was changed to one successful run per week was that two clears a week was "causing a rapid saturation in the market", which implied that the value of PB drops had fallen greatly because they were being too normalized on the market by the sheer amount that were being printed and so this measure was put into place to preserve the modest profits of PB runs. I would like to however offer a simple alternative explanation as to why so many timeless/reverse gears were piling up and why their worth had fallen so much from their original height: they're bad.

Okay, I jest a bit, but the stuff that piled up and saturated the market was generally either equips that nobody cared for or ones that were being overvalued by sellers. I'm talking about the likes of gloves, shoes, overalls, shields and average or below average weapons. Reverse armor could already be crafted at significantly lower costs than what they were being listed at, shields weren't worth investing in given their cost and untradeable nature for very marginal gains, average to subpar timeless weapons were not worth perfecting and were also too expensive to boom, non-archer/warrior timeless armors were just inferior to other options, and reverse weapons only catered to the niche group of players looking for shiny new toys for use as budget weapons. That really just left MW30, facestompers, timeless earrings and perfect/1-off timeless weapons as the only truly marketable goods, all of which never saw market saturation and the former three never seeing depreciation.

As for the depreciation of high attack timeless weapons, their fall was not primarily because supply was far exceeding demand per se but rather that demand itself was almost non-existent. They were of course initially overhyped in the beginning, but their demand after some time quickly began to fall off as most end game players realized they didn't want to, or didn't have the resources to, dump vast amounts of mesos into an untradeable asset just to have to play the slot machine game that is level RNG. I say this is self-evident by the fact that only two players possess finished perfect timeless weapons after about 7 months despite there being significantly more individuals who have the resources to do so. One could make the argument that this is simply due to the fact that it takes time to acquire a weapon with good enough level RNG to be worth finishing, but if that were true then these wealthy players would be actively scooping up all the high attack weapons at every opportunity, which doesn't fit the narrative of market saturation. Instead, we see that most of the players with the resources to make perfect timeless weapons would rather stick to their perfect dragon or NT weapons for reasons mostly pertaining to their tradability.

TL;DR: Revert PB clears to two per week because market saturation doesn't appear to be a legitimate justification for limiting PB to once a week, which effectively lessens the amount of content in the game.

I think the bigger reason for 1 pink bean run per week is to slow down the aging of the server, not prevent the market from reaching saturation. Having access to attack shoes is going to significantly change the meta of maplelegends as it will increase the power level of attackers by a large margin.

Also, the pink bean market was fully saturated from the very beginning. The untradeable nature of the weapons / armors means that perfect / near perfect items are the only ones with any real value, at least to the people who care about playing long term and eventually upgrading their character to the limit.

If the difference between one run and two runs a week is truly significant enough to have a detrimental effect on the meta and the aging of the server with respect to stomper production rate, then the drop rate of stompers could be adjusted in conjunction with some other drop rate/drop table change so as to not reduce the EV of a PB kill, i.e. increased drop rate of MW30 or adding CS/WS to the drop table. Although considering there are only 2 or 3 decent stompers on the server after over half a year I don't see it coming up as a potential issue for several years, if at all.
