    Hello,

At 4~ AM CEST we had yet another unexpected downtime. This time the downtime lasted over 12 hours and was related to multiple hosts in a range.

The host has now resolved the issues and the server is back online.

However, once again, because our source is apparently much more superior than our host, the server 'itself' was completely unaffected. Once again all stores were still up, and no data has been lost. The source is now online for 29 days without a restart and will not be restarted because this was completely on the host's side, not the source.

Hopefully they have resolved the issues that also were part of the downtimes of 10-20 minutes the past days and we'll keep a close look on the stability.

We will also be still looking into giving people back the vote they have lost and maybe other stuff.

Thank you for being patient and we are very sorry for the downtime!

    -Kimberly and the MapleLegends Staff.

I want to ask something, in alot of places related to things like this, you mention that the server is up for x time without a restart, so I want to know why is it important? Isnt restarting every week or so good, I remember when we used to restart every second day that it got rid off alot of afkers, which gave a more accurate number if the people "online". Also it gave us the players a compettition and chance to set up stores in like fm1, which now is impossible because if there is a restart every month 1 person can own a spot for a month etc.
I never thought of restarting annoying unless it was back to back restarts, is it possible to like restart every week at a specific time instead of months? I think it could tighten the community a bit atleast on these days on weekends for example.
You dont have to prove that the server is good with not starting, im sure every1 realizes that this server is the best there is in the terms of stability and other stuff.
Sorry to post it here, I didnt want to open a thread for it, if its a problem you can move this somewhere else, just my opinion about restarts.

The reason why we restarted every day back then was not because we wanted it but we had to, mostly memory leaks and whatnot. The reason why official servers usually restart each week is to do some background maintenance, change the Cash Shop around, etc.

Most of time other Private Servers has to restart a lot of times because their server (source) start to lag after x amount of time (usually 1 to 2 days) and most often also due to memory leaks. The reason why I usually provide an x amount of days online is because to outsiders its impressive a server can stay up for that long without encountering issues.

Furthermore, some servers has issues such as losing items or rollback problems, which we still haven't gotten after 2 major downtimes, so that's nice too.

Right now we usually do actual source restarts if we found issues, or we have source updates to do. However, some updates can be done without a restart (monsters, npc positions, scripts, etc...)

EDIT: Also, we are currently still testing this new host, since in end the source should be able to handle the uptime, and we wanted to verify its the host that had issues in the past, not the source.

One last update from the host:

Event Summary: A large portion of our IP space has been targeted by an attack exceeding 500 Gbps in size that caused several major upstream links that we have to be completely saturated. At this time, there have been several immediate changes made to our network infrastructure that will prevent the attack from causing complete unavailability. While our current infrastructure can handle the attacks as a whole, the attack traffic did not come in through balanced routes causing specific uplinks to be completely saturated. We have immediately started the process of upgrading uplinks to all upstream providers to multiple 100 Gbps links, which will allow us to completely absorb the attack without saturation in the near future. This permanent solution is expected to be in place soon (date TBA as we are still coordinating with upstream providers) and is considered to be our highest priority project to ensure long term availability and quality of service to our customers.
    ----------------------
Hopefully with the above everything has being resolved. Just once again as verification is that we were NOT DDoS'd, but someone on their host instead, which affected our servers too. And to add as info 500gbps is a massive attack.

Nice... now it makes sense that to make their numbers look bigger, ISP companies measure their speed in BITS, not BYTES...
