Update Client Patch Notes: Anniversary 2025

    Welcome to the client Patch notes of the 10th Anniversary!

    This will be client version 1.30.0.
    A lot of work was spent on the client side of things, for this patch, and we are satisfied with the results. Let's walk through all the changes!

    Do note this thread in particular is about the client changes only.

    Updates to the Buff system

    Our client now supports an extended list of character buff masks.
    A buff mask is a unique identifier for a specific type of buff (for example, weapon attack, magician's Infinity, thief's Dark Sight, and so on). Only one effect for a specific mask can exist at any given time, and any further activation overwrites the previous one, or is handled based on which one is the best (our "smart buff" system applied to base stats).

    New buff masks:

    Currently, 3 new buff masks have been created, and they serve very specific purposes.
    • [​IMG] Enrage: allows the weapon attack bonus given by the skill to stack with the attack from other sources.
    • [​IMG] Shadow Shifter: gives the skill an active effect, instead of the old passive.
    • [​IMG] Fixed Damage Bonus: increases the fixed damage dealt to monsters.
    While these are the only ones we introduced now, more buffs will be implemented in the future.

    Stacking buffs:

    On a separate note, the attack from Bowmaster's Concentrate buff now stacks with other damage sources as well. This did not require a custom mask, but a rework of the way its current one is handled.


    Visual QoL

    White Scroll prompt:

    As we anticipated, the prompt that shows up when scrolling while having White Scrolls in the inventory has been updated.
    The intention of this design is to minimize the risk of accidental scroll usage, that could come from a less descriptive and visually distinct prompt, paired with the unfortunate proximity of the Yes and No buttons.
    In the new version, the Cancel button serves as a "damage-free" buffer zone between the much more wordy "Scroll WITH ws" (formerly Yes) and "Scroll WITHOUT ws" (formerly No).

    In the future, a completely revamped UI design might come around, but for the time being this solution should be helpful towards users who choose to activate the WS prompt via ini file.
    As a reminder, disabling the prompt setting will revert all scrolling mechanics to the vanilla game version.


    Numeric clarity:

    The lack of thousands separator can make numbers difficult to decipher, in some cases. This can be either detrimental, when a number is expected to be quickly comparable (like experience), or even damaging, when a wrong read can cause problems (like during item purchases).
    We fixed those two scenarios.

    Skills flexibility

    Some skills limitations make little gameplay sense, and only seem to be there to annoy the players. We would like to offer solutions for a few of them, for the time being.

    Hurricane:


    Players can now use potions while firing Hurricane, without needing to stop the action.
    While Hurricane is on the spotlight due to relevance, this applies to any skill that requires a key to be held down (eg. Rapid Fire, Big Bang charging, Piercing Arrow charging).
    Note: transformation potions cannot be consumed.

    Band of Thieves:


    Band of Thieves no longer requires a target to be hit at point-blank range, in order for the ninjas to attack surrounding monsters.

    Smokescreen:


    Smokescreen no longer requires the player to be standing on a platform, to be cast.

    Bugfixes:

    Energy Charge bonus accuracy is now included in the hit chance calculation.
    • This is a fix for a longstanding bug where non-standard bonus accuracy was ignored in the damage formula, despite it being correctly displayed in the player stats window.


    Literal visual update

    From now on, screenshots taken using the in-game button will be true PNG images, instead of BMP with a .png extension.
    • The images will be much more lightweight, and they will properly be embedded online.
    • Consecutive screenshots can be taken as close as 0.5 seconds between each other. Should two screenshots be taken during the same second, the file name of the second one will end with a "_1" .


    A Timeless classic

    Support for the Item level and Item exp stats in the tooltip window of equipment has been added.
    • For the upcoming live client, this feature is visually disabled, pending proper stats communication with the server.
    • Unlike the original implementation, the idea is for our tooltips to include any mention of those stats only on equipment that can actively level up (like Reverse and Timeless sets).


    Customizable bragging rights

    Our client now supports custom damage skins!
    • For the time being, only one damage skin is available (showcased in the picture above), and will be obtainable somewhere in the event. It will be an unique item in celebration of our 10th Anniversary.
    • Currently, the damage skin will be applied only in first person, and will affect damage from the player and from other players.
      • The effect is linked to a specific cash equipment, thus disabling it simply requires removing the item.
      • In the future, more customization will be enabled (eg. only affecting one's own damage, skin visible in third person, option to toggle all to default, and so on).



    What's in store for the future?

    This patch included a lot of changes, but it's not the only stuff we've been working on. Some features have been partially implemented, or have been completed but aren't yet required, and, as usual, a lot of internal code refactoring happened, that however doesn't get its spotlight moment as a big orange title in this post.

    In any case, we have lots of plans for our coming patches, some of them are part of upcoming content, some others have been discussed with the community or are fixes to previous implementations, but there's also things that you are not aware of just yet.

    It makes me think of auto-move functions you find in mobile games (such as MapleStory M)... I'll say I don't really want such a feature in this game. Quick travel/auto travel features make the world feel smaller; but I think auto walking also just annoys me because if you were going to cheapen the journey, you might as well just go all the way and teleport me to my destination rather than have me walk away from the PC for a few minutes and do something else while I wait anyway.

    But maybe this is just auto walking?

    normally you can't type while moving, since moving requires you hold an arrow key which wouldn't work while typing in chat

    these are all GREAT changes! thank you! I'm personally not a big fan of dmg skins, so i hope i won't be forced to watch other ppl's dmg skins (which, i think, will be the case if i understand the notes correctly?)

    Functionally it will basically be the same as before.

    On the new whitescroll window pressing ESC will cancel the scrolling, pressing SAPCE will cancel the scrolling and pressing ENTER will scroll with a whitescroll.
    Any other keys on your keyboard will have no function at all
