Hello - I'm not really sure where I went wrong as this is my first time doing pixel art. I utilized piskellapp to finalize my pieces.

Hey~ Wanna say again that I love your design and I hope you don't mind me pointing these things out.

The reason it's blurry is because the image was scaled down, I assume to fit the canvas restrictions. It's not a problem with piskelapp, no program or algorithm can accurately scale up or down pixel-art. (unless scaling up by multiples of 100% to display a "zoomed" version)
Also, correct me if I'm wrong but it seems the final scaling down to fit in the 100x100 canvas, was not done in piskelapp.
I'm saying this because as far as I know piskelapp only scales stuff up and down using Nearest-neighbor. Nearest-neighbor image scaling does not introduce new colors or cause blurriness (It will still mess up pixel-art but in different ways.) And I noticed this isn't true for your piece. (comparing the exports to the character reference it's easy to see many colors were introduced everywhere.)

Your best bet is to take the version from before scaling (if you still have that file) and then either:

1. Scale it down using an algorithm that doesn't introduce new colors (doesn't blur) such as Nearest-neighbor, and then clean it up manually (most notably outlines and small details like the fish eyes.)
   
   or
   
   
2. Manually decrease size by moving around certain bits. for example reducing the length of the shaft.

If you no longer have the file from before scaling, it could probably be recovered from the scaled up character reference. If that's the case let me know and I can help with that.

 

Slime i want you to know I would’ve voted for your entry, it’s some of the cleanest style-matched pixel art I’ve seen. It legit looks like something that should already be in the game.

 

Thanks for your help. It was a very time-consuming effort (like hours). It is my fault for thinking I could resize pixel art with relative ease.

I'm so grateful I drafted my jump animation on the correct canvas size. Unfortunately, I will have to scrap the 2-handed variation from my entry (if my submission becomes perm, perhaps I will jump back into it). I will DM a mod to update the submission.
