Make sure your monitor runs on 60hz. That's the only suggestion I have left, sadly.

Sadly that hasn't worked either. Thank you for trying, looks like I'll have to accept defeat :(

You don't use a TV monitor right?

No, just my new laptop (seems to be a re-occurring problem).

Updated drivers, have latest Direct X, tried compatibility modes, changed refresh rates, fiddled with hardware acceleration etc.

    FIXED

Utterly amazed myself that I was able to actually do something technical, but seem to have got it working on Windows 10.

Right clicked desktop > Intel Graphics Settings > Display > Custom Resolutions > Yes >

Then enter your own custom settings (Width 800, Height 600, 60Hz).

So simple if you're using Intel, hopefully this method is interchangeable on other platforms too.

I'm glad you've solved this, and in a much easier way than using CRU as I've been advising others users to do!

As I mentioned on the first page, the GR2D error only occurs if your system/device doesn't let Maple use '800x600 @ 60/70/75'! :)

For users using the 'Intel HD Control Panel' tool instead of the 'Intel HD Graphics' tool, you can do the same with the following:
Right click Desktop → Graphics Options → Custom Resolutions

    Then use the following settings:
    Width: 800
    Height: 600
    Refresh Rate: 60
    Color Depth: 32 bit
    Timing Standard: CVT

AMD and Nvidia users may have to keep using CRU for the moment, since I tried this on Nvidia's Custom Resolutions tool and the EDID didn't seem to be affected.

    CRU https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-Custom-Resolution-Utility-CRU

Open cru.exe → Tick all '800x600' results on the left list → Click OK.

Do this at your own risk - adding unsupported resolutions can result in no display and force you to boot in safe mode.

Thank you, I'm utterly delighted! Since doing this I then made another custom resolution of 960x720 which seems to give the optimum performance. So make you you try 800x600, then if it works try it on a higher resolution too.
