Gachapon observations

    I do think it would be cool to have gashapon-only items available by other means only than gashapon. But let's do a little thought experiment.

    Say shield magic attack scrolls were also available by hunting phantom watches. Some people who wanted to take initiative and not depend on gash or buying from others decided to hunt those monsters. Player A gets lucky and finds 2 within the first hour, and a total of 9 scrolls for the entire week. Player B is unlucky and only finds 2 for the whole week.

    Clearly Player A has received a clear advantage over Player B based solely on luck. Is this something that can be fixed? Is this even something that can be considered 'wrong' or 'harmful to the economy'?

    It doesn't matter if its 'better' or 'beneficial or 'wrong' or 'harmful,' because it represents REAL FREE MARKET ECONOMICS.

    The current system we have requires there be time/luck for the creation of the 'Factors of production,' whereas the system I am proposing ushers in a third factor that is highly important, yet completely absent from all Gachapon scrolls and items (as you know, some of the most powerful items in the game)

    That factor is effort. As long as the gaining of those Gachapon items is based just in the factors of time and luck, while other (usually not so powerful) items are based in the factors of luck, time, and effort, the Legends economy will never be a real free market economy.

    This is just a thought, and no more than that.

    For as far as I've read here, the problem is that Gachapon is to easy to be used, especially for players that are able to vote a lot. I can see how this is not gms-like, where using gachapon you were all hyped and had to work hard for it (in my case the MTS). With the steadily stream of Vote Cash gachapon has become a weekly routine, and it shouldn't be.

    What if gachapon tickets were only buyable with Game Cash, at a lower cost (but with the same chances), say 500 Game Cash each. Game Cash will -for as far as I know- be available from achievements. It could also be gained from events, special occasions or just a free one-time gift to everyone because Kim is nice.

    It should also be ensured you can't gain more than 5,000 Game Cash per day on the long run, but in the beginning that could be more. This can boost new players, while giving Staff more grip on the market. The base system of Game Cash should be insufficient to please people. But the additional sources as mentioned before should be just enough to hype people when they use Gachapon.

    I also think the Game Cash restriction could be used on things like teleportation rocks, AP resets... Also with price adjustments. As for Vote Cash (as we do need votes) maybe there could be the option to exchange Vote Cash to Game Cash at a 5 to 1 ratio, or something.

    Once again, just some thoughts.

    On gms all i would of had to do is spend 100 euros a day if i wanted to on nx and im sorted at least here you are limited to only have 5k nx per day, making scrolls rare? Good luck finding anyone scrolling equips lol, server would be like a meal with no salt and pepper for flavour.

    As for start up money ive been playing a week, i spent all nx on gacha got like a few items i can use(not rare ones) and made roughly 15m mesos, i made more mesos buying and selling kpq scrolls.

    so no its not the most dependent source of income, i can go farm gfa scrolls in ludi to make mesos i dont need to just gacha, yesterday all i got was pies and elixers dont see how its easy to get good items.

    I appluad your point about effecting the market in the future but i dont see how it would only be a negative effect, it could go both ways. Also making changes now only gives all users from day 1 a masssive advantage over new users, and when those new users find out that information they may lose the motivation to keep playing.

    Final verdict for me is its fine how it is although i havent been playing long but its my opinion.

    I'll address your points individually.

    GMS didn't make 5k NX available for free to every player on the server every 24 hours. You missed that important fact... Only a couple scrolls on this server are actually considered rare (Ex:Chaos/White). The other expensive scrolls are just in high demand raising it's value.

    If you read beyond the first post, you will shortly see that have changed my stance about gachapon being a primary source of income but i will entertain your arguments anyway =)

    Making 30+m (15m from gach and another 15m from KPQ scrolls) in a week starting at level 1 on a server less then 2 months old is quite good. Your own comment almost proves you wrong. Making 15m off gachapon in 1 week is quite the opposite of unreliable. Some days you win, others you lose but in the context of a reliable source of income, gachapon could in fact be just that. Assuming of course your going to all the right towns...

    But i can't help but wonder.... if you made 15m in one week off gach rewards AND made even more money selling KPQ scrolls. I would have to question the validity in your argument. First off, you need to be level 35 in order to use gachapon. So that means you reached level 35 and made "roughly" 15m off of pure gachapon rewards and a additional 15m+ from buyingselling KPQ scrolls all in one week. If this is in fact true, i can only say one thing... i need to start buying and selling KPQ scrolls =)

    You would be right if that were to happen and this is one of many reasons why nobody is asking for a change as of yet.


    I completely missed your post @Gi@Gi. Without more information on the whole achievement system i really don't want to speculate. However, if what your saying is how that system will function. I would certainty revisit this idea with serious intentions. It has the potential to solve multiple different issues that have been brought up.

    Yeah 100k per over all scroll was what i was buying them for some max 250k and selling 1m so yeah it was easy to make over 15m and 7 days is a long time only reason why i made 15m in 1 week from gacha is because i used 35k nx on it, other then that it wouldn't be as easy, what helped me was someone gave me 200k when i started and another guy gave me 1m although i had used most of this mesos on pots i saved for buying and selling scrolls and yeah thats about it really... and i see your point but still 5k nx every 24 hours for everyone isnt as bad as gms having loads of people mass buying 200k nx etc..

    I only played Scania so i can't and wont speak for the other worlds.

    In regards to GMS gachapon, around the time of v62 and all the way up to around the release of the potential system, a VERY low percentage of people spent hundreds of euro/dollars on NX for the sole purpose of gachapon. There is a caveat however which was the introduction of the MTS (MapleStory Training System). MTS was flawed in many different ways and marked a milestone in Maplestory's Pay to win history. MTS is best suited for another topic but the important thing to take away from it is, it put NX into the hands of people who had in game items to sell. Most people who actually purchased NX that bought in to the pay to win system didn't waste their time with gachapon as it was an EXTREMELY unrealistic means of revenue compared to the items you could buy from the MTS. I do recall these two exception's though which was 1) whenever a new gachapon exclusive chair was released people would buy a shit ton of tickets 2) The infamous Sky Skies.

    Just to remind you. GMS in many ways was different then MapleLegends. Pink/Purple Adventurer capes were NOT exclusive from gachapon (Could farm these from Guild PQ or was it called Guild Quest?) and chaos scrolls dropped for a large variety of different and generally low level mobs.

    In a nutshell, people didn't spend nearly the amount of money on NX for pay to win features/items back in 2006-2008 as they currently do today. Do i have proof of this? No. But, any merchant who played in Scania during these times would remember the Free Market/BasilMarket/Sleepywood.net absent of gachapon rewards a large majority of the time. It was actually uncommon to see rare gachapon (You guys remember the world notifications when someone got a rare gachapon reward? Which was later changed to every reward) items and they were quite valuable on the market. Complete opposite of how it works here.
