I tried the protecting with I/L mage, but felt very difficult.
Many times, the mobs just started moving right after the spawn before you can froze them, and the damage for an I/L mage (at least at low levels) is not able to knock back the mob, which quickly failed this job.

Maybe it will become better for a high level mage that can knock back the mobs with ice strike.
But I'm curious to know if there is a method that makes a low-level I/L mage a good protector?

 

Since you’re a low level, it’s better to rely on cold beam if it’s maxed. With a decently scrolled elemental wand 3, if you can do over 3k damage consistently, you can push the roids back and protect. 3k damage is the threshold to push back the roids.
The strategy with cold beam is to weaken and push back the roids until right before they die. After that, you keep them alive as long as possible until they start walking towards Romeo/Juliet and that’s when you kill them. Otherwise, you wanna keep the roids alive as long as possible. The missiles they shoot don’t actually hurt Romeo/Juliet, so you never have to worry about that.
If you can’t do over 3k damage consistently with cold beam, you can try freezing with ice strike and if there’s someone on your team that can do over 3k damage, you can ask them to help push the roids back so you can keep freezing them safely.
Sometimes the roids are glitched and you can’t push them back even if you do over 3k damage. In that case, you want to kill that roid as soon as possible.
