Just why jq

    This event is already turning me away. I'm going into this not liking jump quests in general and last year it took me a week to finally figure out the tower, but I still needed a party to finish 10-20. This year it is way more difficult to finish and not be left with logging out of frustration. Took me 2hrs just to get to floor 5 yesterday, but now I am stuck on floor 6 with no sight of actually getting through it. Events are suppose to be fun and enjoyable, but these type of events are making me question a lot and why we are catering to a handful of people who close their eyes and hop through it without a mistake.

    Does anyone have pointers oR ANYTHING that will help me actually complete this damn thing before innocent keyboards are harmed?

    JQ's suck, always have. Definitely my least favorite part about maplestory since all the way back then.

    For all I know this could be a very well designed JQ, but I won't be doing anymore past the first couple floors. Not at all worth the frustration and time sink [IMO]

    I'm fine with getting my cake challenges through the 999 grinder event on the left portal and just doing that / cake boss / grinding levels on mobs with the bonus xp from the event.

    Will I miss out on weekly passes? Probably. But I just can't be bothered to pull my hair out for "gameplay" that's designed to be as harsh as a souls game that revolves around 2d platforming.

    Definitely not saying this JQ is a bad event, as the art and creativity are apparent. But at the end of the day a JQ is a JQ and I think most of the playerbase will only find frustration and fomo here, not fun unfortunately.

    Right and not to poo on the devs or the people who put in the hard work to make this event, but like you said I feel like I’m not going to get my op pend this year simply bc I don’t have hrs and hrs to sink into maybe clearing once. But afaik last year you had to kill the demon king 3x and I just don’t see that now. It’s a bummer

    Demon King has to be killed a total of 4 times.. the first clear will unlock the quest for the pendant which asks you to kill him an additional 3 times.. ;D

    Ngl the DKT is uber tilting even among JQs. It’s got the unholy combo of super punishing (and often BS) mechanics combined with extremely long checkpoints

    Still, it’s cool new content. I just don’t recommend continuing while tilted lol

    It doesn't even take 2 days to know that the layout is much worse than last year's for the average player. And I say this as somebody who has cleared and fully believes it can be farmed. But the issues are visible from the onset.

    Last year there were obstacles in terms of mobs and the jumps themselves, but once the mobs were cleared out, the jumping was actually fairly tame. It still took some effort for a "bad at jq" player to get through, but it really felt like anybody could get through it. And there was even still benefit in having those players along, if just to have extra hearts in the party to tackle certain obstacles. Adept players could even solo 1-20 (I've done it), so bringing players along for the ride was never really a detriment either.

    Compare all that to this tower version, and the design differences are apparent. Many of the obstacles are not monsters, or otherwise cannot be turned off/circumvented. A "carried" player still has to be just as good as the better players if they hope to get through. I was actually hopeful when I saw a certain spring in the corner of a stage thinking "oh, I bet this takes somebody to the end of the stage once somebody manages to get through". Turns out that spring just saves them a climb up the rope right next to them (and did I mention that spring itself is just a death trap as it's in range of an archer while youre stuck on it?). Sadly, there is no real way to "help" others through the jq, and if nothing changes I may have to break a promise to some friends this time.

    Additonally, the track this year features multiple areas of "forced cooperation", likely learning the wrong lessons from last year. We found certain elements last year were kinda cool, like spotting for mobs, but cooperation was never required if you had enough hearts. In fact, sharing the load was often a valid tactic to get people through. That is virtually impossible this time around, as there are split paths which are designed to require another person to get through. This means I need to be more mindful of who I recruit, lest I get party wiped by other people's failures (and we know well what effects that has on the playerbase from snowman). Honestly, it's this part that is my biggest complaint of the entire tower. Not because I want to solo still, but because I'm stuck with little recourse J>10 in a lobby where it's very hard to set up (kinda like snowman).

    So all this to say, how many days until we are allowed to open our eyes and see the downward slope we've found ourselves on? DKT was a beloved event by many, and while the new tower itself is still *fun*, I fully believe the level designers/testers have learned the wrong lessons in why the tower was perhaps the most anticipated event in ML history.

    Imagine making an event that 95% of the server population cant even clear :yay: I have no idea how a playtest with the current Demon tower got accepted. Do anyone in the Balance team actually think about what the average Maplestory player is trying to get out of this game?

    I love JQs, Im an avid souls player. But this is Maplestory we are playing. Maplestory is not a hard game, people play Maplestory to wind down after work, kill some snails and talk shit in FM, we played this game when we were 10years old and got through it. Now Ive been struggling almost as much doing 1-10 as I did with the Elden Ring DLC.

    And if I, a person who spent 8h a day grinding JQs on the last event is struggling, I cant even imagine what people disliking JQs feel like right now.

    Last time was plenty hard until you figured it out, but even doable for the majority of people who dont like JQs with some practice and help from party. And I was actually looking forward to just doing the exact same Demon tower with maybe a new twist on the boss or something.

    But this whole new Demontower is just straight dogturd and not really fun. The difficult is to high and the random RNG with some mobs + lagspikes while jumping/springboards makes it awful.

    If I had one suggestion, it's to add some mechanic to revive party members

    It feels bad for everyone when someone dies early, and party just has to go on for the next 13 mins

    Or make checkpoints shorter

    I've always enjoyed events where mobs drop cosmetic currencies and raffle tickets, even at a very small chance, I'm still able to feel the festivity. It's even better when paired with event quests that involve killing a certain number of mobs or collecting some amount of drops.

    The last Lunar New Year event felt really nice for me, with a balanced mix of hunting and jump quests, while the current Anniversary event is almost non-existent to me. Jump quests and party quests are no no for me.

    It can be disappointing, especially after players have provided feedback on the things they like, only to see them left out of a big event like the Anniversary.
