I agree with all of the above points.

Akash, you're right in the sense that the evaluation should be a lot more holistic.

I think the difficult part is determining what "weight" of the value of good at farming, meso making, grinding should be. Because it's going to depend on what other characters and infrastructure a player has.

One possible solution would be to just reduce the scope of the tier list to "...as a main character", or "...as a solo main", etc.

 

Gurk and Sumilidon 25 gave some great input on the recent DK changes, especially as they compare to the other warrior classes. Here's an updated chart. Much of this is entirely subjective, but it's interesting to see in the weighted score, the updated rankings - with Shad passing Bucc, and DK passing NL compared to pre-patch.

For the letter ranks' weights, what about a scale "closer together" than 0 to 1? For example the current scale suggests a Great class is worth twice as much as an Ok class. Is that the case or would having two of that Ok class in the content end up with better results?

 

There's no argument to that. They are good at most content these days. I'd actually go on ahead and say that they are "not only super good" in zakum, i think hands down the best class. Can cleave 4 targets, avoid stuns and optimize damage with nate dashing without even losing damage turn arounds, wep cancel serves as a moment to charge nate as well. But with that being said i dont particulary think they are "exceptional" at the other endgame content like HT (yes, they are fine, i wouldnt say particularly strong) since you cant benefit much from nate dashing, not particularly good at auf or coreblaze and whatnot. I do think they excel at PB and mostly all the other earlygame content!

I personally mostly agree with krythans take on the DPM, although im not sure i'm 100% convinced in some rankings such as A tier HT or CWK (definitely subpar cleaver compared to dk and heroes)

 

For most content, you're capped on either the number of characters that can enter (NT), or number of party slots (HT, PB) that the host is organizing. So, bringing a second "Ok" tier class, is at the expense of not putting someone else in that slot.

I like this question. Ideally, a scoring system should represent what the output of that ranking aims to achieve. If the purpose of this chart was to represent "How viable is each class?", then yes, I would agree - anything with a Best, Great, or Good ranking should receive a very similarly weighted score... because for all practically purposes they have a very similar viability.

However, if the scoring system is attempting to output a "tier list", used to represent which characters are the relative strongest, and weakest based on current balance changes, then I would make the argument that being the "Best" at something should in fact be worth almost twice as much as being "Good' at something.

Practically speaking, this is all for the purposes of entertainment. I feel like the above chart actually does a decent job showing how no one class is the overall best, and no one class is the overall worst... and that each class has content they are stronger in, and content they are weaker in.

 

having role weights is more informative than a simple tier list, but it can could not highlight important context. in most content, parties bring a specific composition tailored to mechanics / BiS (Best in Slot). A good example is cwk, pally can do either mage or cleave. However, a thief sign is required and parties resulting in bringing a nl for mage pin, pally overshadowed by dk and hero cleave. Is pally viable in cwk? Absolutely. But since pirate pin is often the bottleneck, hosts have a lot more cleave to choose and due to tier list and perception, they prefer a dk or hero for cleave. this leads to pally being selected less in cwk despite their capability.

 

Why is shad rated A for CWK? I always felt like shad is just okay at CWK, unless you consider the flexibility itself good enough to rate higher, cause you can go be a subpar cleave, or you can be a pretty decent ST for mage boss especially cause SE works now, and I've done emergency pirate pin before (it's not very good), so in terms of flexibility yeah you can be pushed anywhere in a pinch. But individually at any of these roles you are middle of the pack, it almost always feels like you would rather have another top tier class there instead, e.g. hero/dk for cleave, NL/sair or any other true ST for mage pin.

 

Whoever tried 'J>cwkpq, im 16x~18x shad' knows the truth.

 

on the same vein, how is a bucc rated the same as NL in cwk??? buccs don't even TRY to join cwk as attacker because they know how awful they are at cwk other than as a mule

You can join as a mage pin if you have a bishop mule I guess, but then you're stuck with a shad cleave cause you need the thief sign... so I guess you need a bucc and bishop and a thief

 

Therefore I host the CWK instead, they can't reject me if I'm already inside
