PPQ Spawn Confusion

I recently did a PPQ, and whenever my leader and pirate of my party killed a spawn, the game chose to leave it on the screen. This is an example during the 3rd phase of Stage 2...



Not knowing which spawns are real and which are just idling is very confusing. This also caused the doors on the penultimate stage appear to remain open even though they were closed. Any explanations to this? I've done PPQ before and I've never had this problem, but this is the first time I've ever done a PPQ with a pirate in the party.

 

I didn't. I hadn't thought to ask my party.
