    Hello,

I recently saw a post in suggestions about a Quester's Ring. While I thought that was a good idea personally, I played devil's advocate to see what may be some reasons it may not be so good.
    1. Some people just don't want to do quests as part of their progression. There may be some people who enjoy bossing more, there may be some people who consider quests to be a chore. People who are used to the current way they are rewarded for their time (E.g., Grinding to get money to get higher level gear) may not want to force themselves to do quests to be 'meta', especially if they have multiple characters. All these are valid points.
    2. I would assume that the Quester's Ring would give all stat, with maybe WA/MA. While everyone loves getting stronger (including myself), maybe devs have already tweaked the state of the server so that it's just the right amount of progression, or an amount of progression that they can monitor without it going out of hand. Maybe the introduction of a ring will make equipment with secondary stats too easy to equip, especially when there is already a Monster Book Ring. Maybe they plan on releasing a ring for their next end game gear and there are too many rings (Ellin Savior, Monster Book, Valentines, Alchemist (I do not know if some of these exist on this server, I am pretty new. Sorry.). This is a pretty weak argument, but I thought I would say it regardless.

I think a decent solution is to have something that people will covet, something that will make people feel that they are rewarded for their time, but not impact progression.

An idea that I came up with is, let's have an NPC in the FM that manages an exclusive "Quester's Club." If you have completed certain number of quests, you obtain a Bronze / Silver / Gold / Platinum membership status. Having the status gives you access to select the benefits while talking to the NPC. (Edited for clarity)

    Bronze (100 Quests):
    • GM Buff (can only use once every 2 weeks)
I think this is a good starting point, especially for people who are not in the timezone when GMs buff, or people who play casually. It should just be an instant buff -- not a tradable item so people don't abuse it.

    Silver (400 Quests):
    Opens a shop that sells:
    • Honster, Ginger Ale, etc.
    • Ciders
    • Summoning / Magic Rock / ACP (so you don't have to go to Alcaster)
    • Secret Spell Scroll
I would think this is a pretty good reward. You don't have to go to NLC to get your potions or buy them at a premium (I am sorry, potion sellers). Note that this is convenient, but does not impact gear progression. More importantly, note that only one of your characters have to do this to gain this benefit (you can just trade potions that you get from this shop to your alts).

    Gold (600 Quests):
    • Increased Event Rewards that DO NOT impact progression (for example, give them 50 extra yellow coins at the start of the event, can only be collected once by pressing on the Gold benefits).
    • NX Gifts every 2 weeks, at the dev's discretion (For example, a cute piece of clothing, 10 super megaphones, 5 safety charms, etc)
    • Discount at TienK Card Shop
The first two gives devs more work to do so I'm not sure if it's a great idea, but it's just an idea that I thought of.
The third one is great imho -- you helped the citizens of the maple world, now they're helping you! Any forms of the maple world characters now trying to help you would be so good to see, even if the items are not as useful.

    Platinum (800 Quests):
    • Quester's Chair (it would be cute if it was something like sitting with major NPCs that you've helped)
    • Exclusive Omok Set (Untradable)?
    • Some token that shows that you spent some serious time helping the people of Maple World
At this point, people just do it for the glory. So you should reward them with something that provides them glory.

Let me know what you think. It's not something I've deeply thought of, so I'm sure there will be issues. I just thought this was a creative idea and thought I can bounce off some ideas. I would love to hear other ideas too. Thanks.

I agree with your general sentiment.

a.) Questing should have better rewards.
b.) Potion Shop in the FM, GM Buffs, etc are great rewards.

However, from a game design perspective, I think these mechanics should remain independent of each other. I agree that quest-ers should get greater rewards than they currently do, but in the nature of "it's your story", I don't think those rewards should be so good that they force every player to become a "quester". Especially since the per-quest rewards really dry up after level ~30.

Items like the proposed "questers ring" (following the design pattern of the monster book ring, and exclusive cosmetic items like a questers chair are fantastic proposed solutions that feel like they align with the current game play loops.

    Thanks for your post.

I was reading your reply and thought, "How come he doesn't think the Quester's Ring is not a reward that is so good that it forces people to quest?"
Then I realized that the Quester's Ring was actually a ring with non-essential stats.
I assumed that it would be an all stat, WA/MA ring. All I needed to do was to go to the first page of the post and figure it out that way, but I just kept pressing the previous page numbers and it wouldn't show me what the Quester's Ring was about so I just assumed that it would at least be an all stat ring. While that sounds really foolish in hindsight, I think I'm just not used to how the forum works. Sorry for such a confusing post.

Upon reading the Quester's Ring post more carefully, it's pretty much what I wanted it to be -- something that people will covet and make people feel that they are rewarded for their work, but doesn't impact progression. It's really well fleshed out with the level requirements, too.

Regarding my ideas, while I personally don't think periodical GM Buffs / potion shop would be significant enough to force others to quest, I think you would know that better than me, as I have not been in this server for too long. And I do agree that the mechanics should remain independent of each other -- I think my suggestion may have been too complicated with the random types of rewards. Thanks for your input.

I like the idea! I think you're on to something good.

I think SkuireSkuire's Quester's Ring pitch does a great job differentiating the reward from the existing Monster Book ring.

Your initial post mechanically reminds me of the Alcaster's Quest that lets you buy All Cure Potions, Summoning, and Magic Rocks from an NPC.

How about when you clear your quest log at level 200 you get a tour around Legends HQ and the Legends mansion including a meet and greet with a staff member of your choice.

    That would be cool.

Discount potions cannot work limitless because people will just buy the potions at the discount and sell them in 2-13 or something for the discounted price
