Everyone knows that if you trade too many mesos, you'll get taxed and end up with a smaller amount that you initially started with. Shops have a lower rate, but you still end up losing money. I have been playing this game for 8 years and I still don't know why we have a sales tax. In real life, we have tax to support the government etc. However, in maple, the mesos are literally just destroyed. Why bother?

    Thoughts?

It's a money sink to slow down inflation. It taxes a negligible amount compared to the amount being traded.

There's a reason for this as bulba mentioned. It has its purpose and as annoying and inconvenient it is, in the end it helps the economy.

It's to prevent inflation. Maplestory had a damn good economy in the global server and the sales tax is just one of the contributing factors that helped to keep it healthy.
No reason to be taking out features like this.
Also, the government does the exact same thing with the taxes that I pay, idk about yours.

The accumulated money from taxes that governments give out ends up being used towards something. I still don't understand how taking money away helps people.

Well, my government mostly wipes their asses with it. Politics 101. Idk exactly how the sales tax benefits the in-game economy, but it's part of the game. It adds a figure of strategy to the game and it's part of a formula for a good economy.

If money isn't taken away, people will have more money to spend on items --> prices of items goes up as each buyer is willing to offer more cash for them --> inflation. Note that while prices goes up, mesos obtained from drops/NPC-ing equips etc does not increases as well. Gach becomes more and more of the only way to earn money buy selling stuff to players (since the prices that player offers increases, while the prices that NPC offers doesn't).

Also, the prices of items that NPC sells (like pots) don't increase, hence pots and stuff become more and more "free", that slowly allows people to spam skills like mage ults and what not because the prices of pots/summoning rocks/attack pots etc. become more and more trivial. This also causes a greater imbalance between the value of the mesos among players and among NPC. Players have too much mesos to spend on all the stuff the NPC sells, but may have too little to buy the things that other players sell (such as scrolls).

In general, inflation is not that desirable. Though we may not be able to stop it completely, we can at least slow it down. Taxes are one of the ways that contribute to it.

    wtf, no.....
how the heck else are GMs supposed to get mesos?????? tell me that then maybe..................

Edit: Seriously, everybody should educate themselves on at least the basics of economics. Specifically flooding and (hyper)inflation.

Money sinks aren't convenient, they're required.

Sales tax is part of the game so I don't think it should be removed. Besides, if you really want you can get around it.

Moving to rejected, since there seems to be much more support for keeping it.
