any veteran know approximately how long it will take base on past experience? I'm totally not taking advantage of my WFH to play maplelegend btw

1- When its done, is not acceptable wtf guys.
2- But really? - Im more than 24 Hours without grind...

 

Just a reminder that all of staff have real lives and jobs and maintain this server in their spare time, so yea, when it's done. It's not like they're purposely prolonging patches.

 

Realistically you'd have probably spent like 8 hours sleeping and 8 hours working so it's not that bad king

 

If anyone was still wondering, I went to the site and checked the time it took for the lunar update. It was roughly 18hrs. That being said there's really no way to tell how long its gonna take. The updates themselves are oldschool maplestory game tables, scripts, npc's and stuff, like maybe a couple hundred megabytes... What takes forever is Kimmy and the team ensuring none of the scripts or tables or npc's are broken and everything patched to the server properly.

ALL OF THAT BEING SAID, I wanna play now T.T

I'm not here to spread hate. But let me explain for u guys to understand.
1- They have a big server (always 1st or 2st on GTOP), That's not a Random small private server for a while.
2- I din't knew, but completely understand that they update things on their free-time that's amazing, I as well work on my game i'm my free-time and i know how hard it is.
2.2- this does not excuse for not giving a prediction since they can know how long it will take to transfer the updates to the server.
3- We have a lot of tools for updating game servers with small or even no downtime. (including tests with a backup that don't need to take down the hole server)

Its really nice to see a community that is so protective about the staff, but u guys didn't get my point and just criticised.
I'm not a troll, i just understand what they are going true and know that are best ways to update the server that takes less time.
Even if they are going to down the server for this long, there are a need to communicate and tell their players whats happening, there are side effects of the game server being down in a time that a lot of new ppl is getting on the server. And they could to it better.

Remember, the server lives on donation, someone is getting paid. Is only right that we receive news when the server is down for this long.

As far as I know, no one is getting paid. Donations only go towards keeping the servers running.

As to your other point, no matter how well patches do in test servers, when things move to prod, there are often issues that don't show up in testing that can be catastrophic. Oftentimes, those are unanticipated. Would you rather staff give an estimate and then have to keep extending it because of unforseen issues?

If you're convinced you know how to make the pipeline far more efficient, then you can apply to staff and enact the changes you want to see.

I’m with you. “Until it’s done” is such a distasteful term to use. Just any amount of time 24H 48h whatever would set a better tone. I check back for two days now ands server is still not live. I do enjoy playing this game, but being in the darks when it’ll go back live is a bit eerie.

 

If you set a deadline and fail to meet it due to any of the (many) things that can go wrong, people bitch about the deadline.

Not providing a deadline has worked the best over the years and there's really no reason to stray from it.
