    I found a 10% hp helmet scroll just now and suddenly had a thought.

    It's been about 18 years iirc that Horntail was released and I remember scratching my head back then "Why would Neckson create something that isn't even possible without washing"? Perhaps they never intended it to be this way?

    What if ranged attackers were meant to be stronger than melee and the reason why Neckson created unreachable bosses for those ranged classes from a lack of HP is because they tried balancing it through HP gear instead of more DPS gear but no one got the message so we agressively expected HP Washing to be the one and only solution?

    It seems like we created this culture on accident through a big missunderstanding.

    Assuming someone went full HP on gear, they'd get:
    Helmet: 210-300 HP (30 * 7 or 30 * 10) [210/300]
    Face Accessory: 210 HP (30 * 7) [420/510]
    Eye Accessory: 525 HP (75 * 7) [945/1035]
    Earring: 150 HP (30 * 5) [1095/1185]
    Topwear: 210 HP (30 * 7) [1305/1395]
    Bottomwear: 210 HP (30 * 7) [1515/1605]
    Gloves: 150-210 HP (30 * 5 or 30 * 6 or 30 * 7) [1665/1695/1725]
    Cape: 160 (20 * 8) [1825/1855/1885]
    Pet Equips: 1050 (3*(50 * 7)) [2875/2905/2935]
    With T10 + Ephenia Rings you're looking at 4k+ in extra HP with incredible luck and practically nothing other than base stats, I'm not sure that's entirely worth it.

    Wow you've put work into this. I was more thinking about it from a minimal perspective to at least be able to do Horntail. I think it was something like 5500 without HB? That would create some form of balance

    Interesting idea in theory, but then the HP scrolls just don't at all give enough HP to justify the huge drop in power. Perhaps it could've just been yet another half-baked idea that never got expanded upon tho (classic Neckson/Wizet)

    As a side note on HP being a balancing factor, one thing I do like about the HP Challenges is the concept of classes having separate HP caps. If ML could get away with making separate hard HP caps for each class without pissing off many players, it'd be an interesting way to balance classes. If it'd be effective though is another story, of course.

    hp wash is a mechanic that you get more HP
    Basically, it was discovered at the beginning of GMS, but on pirate servers, because NX is free, people do it a lot.

    I remember some posts in the Orkut LOL communities, there were some strategies for minimizing damage (only with the extra MP you get when you level up) and some HP items, adding them up and waiting on the pre head map til they kill legs/tail (? i dont remmember what part of ht), and ofc hb

    Remember that until the Big bang patch in 2010, all of the damage formulae, accuracy, avoid, HP etc were all the same since the Korean release days in 2003 when there was only 2nd job and Vic island. Higher level content kept being added without updating the balance of any of these formulas used in the game.

    If you consider the content available when the game was new, it does seem decently balanced. Defence from shop armour is enough to make an impact from a zombie mushroom. An additional 10 HP can help you survive a hit when you are level 15. A few more accuracy points can make the difference in landing a hit on a jr. necki. By level 50 you had enough HP to take on monsters around that level.

    However those existing equations never scaled well to higher and higher levels. Damage taken is quadratic with mob's attack stat, but character HP growth is linear as you level up. They should have re-balanced the equations as this content came out instead of keeping them the same until Big Bang when they had to massively change every equation in order to keep releasing more content.

    So essentially, it was balanced as intended with Wizet behind the wheel, but with the takeover of Neckson, balance was kind of out of the picture and the rate at which people leveled out performed the rate of development meaning that no intention was made, it simply wasn't developed yet? That's a plausible theory. I can't help but question "What the hell was Neckson thinking creating bosses that no one can do (Pink Bean) given the absurd 19K HP criteria. I guess Neckson was so out of touch with the actual game that they just have a 'wait and see' strategy? One can only wonder how Wizet would've continued if Neckson never took over.

    the real answer probably is: neckson didnt put a whole lot of thought into it.

    but now with hp washing not being a thing in classic world maple, they could balance bosses damage output accordingly.

    like, if you play end endgame on legends here, the difference between washed and hp challenge characters (for example bucc, me being 24k vs 30k), a wash wouldnt let me stay alive on BGA during seduce (you get 1/1'd so you cant even hero will)

    you dont get to tank another hit from auf during seduce, it would maybe let you stay alive if you get touched by clones (maybe)

    hp washing trivializes the lower tier content, where you can survive multiple hits though
