Completed Bring Back That Hair and Face! Summer 2021

Just out of general curiosity, why was this particular set of hairs and faces selected? I feel like there's a huge set of other hairs and faces that got much love but were never brought back.

Heya, just wanted to say thank you for giving us the chance to get some older hairs back. I am here to suggest some hairs that I want to see back as well as request that you guys add at least 2 or 3 older hairs since there are so many of them and we haven't gotten older hairs in many of the previous events T_T.

Here are the Male hair suggestions:

Bisk, Sprout Shiny, Heavy Metal, Wild Wolf, Wild Princess's Mane (M), Randy Hair, Chess Hair, Guile Hair, Tousled Pampadour and Ciel Hair

Female hair suggestions:

Aria, Siren, Elegant Wave, Takenokonoko, Jessica's Drill, Soprano, Prim Air, Mini Horn, Breezy Beach Hair, Duchess Hair, Foggy Elodie

For faces I honestly just want Starry Summer eyes :3

Yeah I agree, there should be a larger volume to pick from especially since there will only be one selected from the bunch.

Also agreeing with Hiyo here, I find it rather strange at this year's choices.

• Starry eyed eyes, was last seen in Summer 2020, August.
• Forest Fairy eyes, was called back twice now, last seen in Christmas 2020, December.
• Still eyes, called back 3 times, last seen in Valentines 2020, February.
• Lucid hair, has been called back 4 times to date, and was last featured in Anniversary 2020, in May.

My point is, four of these options that we can choose from, have already been seen in last year's events. For loyal players that has been playing continuously till now, that is 4 options less for us in a very small pool of choices.

Based on this thread: https://forum.maplelegends.com/index.php?threads/guide-beauty-parlor-hair-face-skin.7651/, it shows that there are options that were only used once, and a long time ago in fact. I'm curious to why only certain hair/faces are called back more often than the rest. There are other good options out there too, that has not got their turn. Maybe a GM could speak up to clarify.

My suggestion is, perhaps we could have a bigger pool of choices so that we can gauge the interest of the community for future events too as well.

TL, DR: Event hair/eyes requires more variation. They deserve more exclusivity, because it is exclusive to event only, just like chairs. Too much frequency with the same few hairs/eyes, takes away that novelty - should leave more time in between before featuring the same one again.

For some of us, the beauty of this game is not only to further ourselves, but also to enjoy different aesthetic ways of self-expression and individualism on our characters.

Honestly, this. If the intent was to bring back older hair/face styles that haven’t been featured in events for a bit, please actually do so.
It currently seems the same list of hairs/faces are just being recycled in these bring back threads, which to me defeats the point.

This is another classic situation in which Staff (sorry Oolong it was you in particular here) responds one time to criticism of a decision they make (in this case, the hair/face styles we can vote for) with a vague answer that simply does not logically hold.

I understand and appreciate this, but you simply did not do so.

This thread (at least partially) missed the intention explained by a staff member commenting on it. When this is pointed out by members of the community, no more response is given by staff. I understand that you guys might find it too much of a hassle to make a new poll or still change the options we can vote for this time around, but it would be nice to get a response in which it is acknowledged that the options in this thread have been brought up very many times already and it will be different in the future. Is that so hard?

Personally I'm sick of only having the same options for "bring back that hair/face".

 

It doesnt matter how many options for hair/face we have to vote on. Somehow we'll always find a way to vote in the most generic styles.

Clearly, I was simply wrong and jumped to conclusions based on conformational bias.

I constructed some kind of point grading system that is obviously highly arbitrary but might help to demonstrate what I meant:

Intention: show the years since the hairstyle has last been seen, and provide a cumulative sum of the years since for all 16 hair/face styles.
Afterwards, I subtracted 1 point per # of times the hair/face style has been brought back already. I feel the comments have mostly been targeted at this situation where some hair/face styles have been around so many times while others have never been brought back.

As we can see, if these face/hair styles had all been unique "bring back that hair/face" styles, there wouldve been a sum of 38 years. Now with this quite strange assumption of multiplicity reducing the value of a hair/face style being brought back, this is just 22.

I hope my crappy way of explaining makes sense to someone. For me personally, a face/hair style that has been brought back 4 times can wait a year before being suggested again. However, I understand that staff doesn't go through complicated weighing procedures to find hair/face styles to let us pick to bring back.

Suggestion: Slightly negatively weight face/hair styles that have been brought back in the past more than 1 time. By this I mean that face/hair styles that have never been brought back could be seen as 'preferred' over styles that have been brought back. If this is done for 1-2 consecutive events every now and then, a bunch of hair/face styles that havent been brought back will have been through the cycle again!

EDIT: Forgot to respond to your question:

This is what I meant yes, I feel like Lucid hair, Eyes-On-You, Dreamy face, Lucid hair female, Still Eyed face and Calm Odd eye might have just been brought back a bit too much at this point. Again, considering the multiplicity with which they have been brought back and their year of first appearance. This is however just an opinion though.

 

[For future reference] Would it be possible to create a poll similar to GMS's Pixel Picks?
About once a year there's a poll open for votes, a selection of 30 hairstyles and faces (a huge selection of older hairs and faces that could definitely be smaller) and the highest ranked hairs and faces come out as the next rotation during the event.
This could help the new and older members of the Community get past hairs and faces they like and let everyone take part in the event's options
