New Leaf Update, Issue 2 (Part 1 of 2)

Hey Maplers,

Welcome to Issue 2 of New Leaf Update. This issue has been a long time coming, and so much has happened that it needs to be split into two parts!

The first part of this issue will cover what New Leaf is like, inform you about why you should play, and offer some recommendations for how you might approach your journey.

The second part will be the usual narrative and highlight reel to catch you up on the New Leaf population, featuring great victories, dismal downfalls, and heartwarming tales.

Let's get into it!


What is New Leaf like?



As someone who's spent plenty of time rotting away in dead/inactive guilds on MapleLegends, New Leaf is an immensely refreshing experience. At any given time we have anywhere from 10 to 30 active players online. Guild chat is active, with frequent conversations, trades, greetings, and level ups. In a game dominated by mule accounts, where everyone's attention seems to be divided, it's beautiful to see a guild so alive!

Players in New Leaf tend to be social, but not aggressively. Generally, we're all just here to enjoy the game. Most people online are focused on doing their thing, but if you have questions or need help, ask and you shall receive! Need some annoying ETC item like a specific ore or Stiff Feathers? Want some assistance murking 99 Zombie Mushrooms? Your guildmates have you covered. Like card hunting and questing? You'll have plenty of company. Rather than being focused on one thing only, a refreshing variety of activity is occurring at any given time, with plenty of players willing to jump in and join up when you ask.

Overall, New Leaf is a fresh and enjoyable experience that evokes much of what is currently missing from MapleLegends. I highly recommend you join and give it a try!


Recommendations for new players

Here I've compiled a set of recommendations I've put together for new players that I hope will help them to best enjoy their New Leaf experience.


1. Don't get tunnel vision on PQs
Less popular PQs, especially the ones with narrow level ranges, will probably be challenging to find a party for. This is bound to become more difficult as the average level increases. I recommend not focusing too hard on obtaining all the PQ-exclusive cards and items. Everything you could obtain from a PQ can be replaced with a better item later. Even the Lord Pirate Hat, despite its greatness, will be largely outclassed by the Ravana Helmet (level 70) for those who don't want to sit through several hours of PPQ.

2. Don't get too obsessive about your character and kill your own fun
Remember that you're here to enjoy the game, and not to min-max or obsess over silly details that you'll completely forget about in the long run. Instead of sweating hard over single stat points or missed quests, let's let all the little flaws inform and enrich our experience and, ultimately, focus on creating new memories to cherish.

Welcome to Part 2 of the second issue of New Leaf Update. In this part, we'll be covering the significant events that have taken place in New Leaf since the last issue. We're covering almost three weeks of progress, so there's a lot to talk about! Let's get into it.

Interestingly, the median level for New Leaf players is less than the average, indicating that levels skew right. This means that most players are at lower levels, but a small number of players are at a very high level, bringing up the average. I would expect this trend to continue as more players fall into inactivity at lower levels, while dedicated players keep pressing on.

Player Bios

The Legend of NoTrade

"NoTrade. The guy is a legend. Doesn't trade, gives away all the good items he gets and can't use and still has better gears than most players."​

There once was a player who asked himself, "what if no trade?"

Thus, NoTrade was born.



Little is known about his upbringing, except that he began his career as an apprentice Magician in Ellinia with "6-7 hours of straight grind from level 1."

From the beginning, NoTrade was a generous soul. Over the course of his journey, NoTrade slayed thousands of monsters, accruing untold amounts of items and dozens of Gachapon Tickets. What items he obtained but could not use, he gave away to other New Leaf players. But true to his name, he never traded them - he would only drop the items for others to pick up.



Rumor has it that after NoTrade advanced to an Ice/Lightning Wizard, he became so skilled in his craft that the legitimacy of his play was called into question, and he was banned for "hacking."



Whether this was an honest mistake or an attempt by corrupt MapleLegends administrators to stifle one of the last truly based players, we will never know. What is known is that other New Leaf players, presumably supporters of NoTrade, were also banned in the ensuing fallout.



However, NoTrade was not to be deterred. He fought arduously to clear his name. When the underhanded and corrupt MapleLegends game masters forced him to list all of his account IDs in order to appeal his false ban, he complied, and listed all 100 of his accounts. The GM cabal was shocked, and realized at last that they were truly outmatched. In a pitiful and embarrassing attempt to save face and restore public relations, they backpedaled. NoTrade was finally unbanned and free to roam the Maple World again.



He would then continue his Ice/Lightning career all the way to level 70, in what we can only assume to be 20 to 30 hours of non-stop high-efficiency grinding.



During this time, he scrolled even more incredible gear and gave away dozens of powerful items to New Leaf players, all free of charge.



This is where the story of NoTrade has come to a stop, for now. Since achieving level 70, he has not been seen. But surely he will return again another day to outdo and inspire us all - without a single trade.

Have you ever seen a 35 megabyte .GIF file?

Me neither... until Kiwi came.

When it comes to scrolling, most players don't have high expectations. They'll pass a few scrolls, fail a couple, then inevitably throw a 30 or 70 and blow up their item. Then they'll throw up their hands and say, "RNG."

But what if there was a player who did not believe in RNG? What if there was a player who only ever knew success? Could you believe that such a player could ever exist?

Me neither... until Kiwi came.







The MapleLegends game masters, fresh off of their humiliation at the hands of NoTrade, finally did their job for once and put a stop to this illegitimate and criminal player.



What they did not know is that this would only make Kiwi stronger.













Someone out there... please... stop this Kiwi!


New Leaf Gacha

New Leaf players are going to need a steady supply of Chaos Scrolls to use on our level 70 LUK mage sandals. So that's why we've been hard at work generating as many Gachapon Tickets as possible and cramming them into the machine as fast as the game will allow.

Going Forward

As expected, many players have fallen off upon hitting the massive grind of 2nd and 3rd job. But despite this, New Leaf is still going strong, with more than 20 players online during active hours!



Now that the guild has settled past the point of initial hype, it's a good time to start thinking about our goals.
