Welcome to the client patch notes of Anniversary 2023.

Client version 1.18.0 provides less interesting changes for players' gameplay, but important ones nonetheless.

Do note this thread in particular is about the client changes only.

    Gameplay Changes

    Skills:

The Anniversary Event will make use of two brand new skills: Axe Throw and Long Jump. These skills required full support implementation, much like we did for Spaceship skills during last event.
    • [IMG] Axe Throw
Throws an axe that damages the first enemy it hits. The behavior is similar to that of Grenade, but the Axe skill can be held down for consecutive hits.
    • [IMG] Long Jump
Jumps a longer distance than normal.
    Portals:

Many out-of-bounds warps across the game are handled by regular server logic, but this cannot be the case for warps that should only teleport you back to a specific place of the same map, without screen transition.
v62 Maple only supports fixed-size portal hitboxes; for this reason, adding a full bottom floor of same-map teleports required placing tons of mini portals one next to the other.
One of the maps for this event is so long that this would not have been possible. For this reason, we added support for custom sized portal collision boxes.

In addition, we wanted to add something of our own. You may be familiar with springs, and the way they push the player in a predictable direction.
For this event, we added support for a special type of springs, the direction of which can be changed by operating a lever. Don't worry: you will not need to control your character during the jump, the activated spring will always launch you in the correct position!

    Game Stability

The work towards stability is never over. We have further restructured some of our client memory management, and will keep monitoring the performance change confronted with previous patches.

Additionally, a bigger-scope client source rework has begun. Nothing major has been altered for this patch, but our code reformatting plans will hopefully come into play soon enough.

    Miscellaneous

    Clock designs:

During last patch, we introduced support for custom in-map Clock designs. We are making use of it this time too: all the event-related maps will display timers with a fully custom Retro Clock design. We hope you'll like it!

    Custom UIs:

This is something we have just started shifting our attention to. While we don't have something fancy to showcase yet, we have started setting up support for custom windows handling, which will allow us to create all sorts of Maple-themed special UIs.
Once this system will be fully in place, some of our Legends.ini settings will be shifted to an in-game menu, allowing for live editing of features that currently require a client restart.

    Thank you!

We wish you lots of fun during our Event time; even when there's periods of downtime between two patches, you can be sure that a lot of changes are taking place behind the scenes, and that sooner or later they will hit their release date!
