Just a quick question: how viable is it for a 1st job pirate to level up using Somersault Kick while holding a Frozen Tuna? What would the ideal AP distribution be, and when would gun skills become useful enough to obsolete SSK?

    Thanks in advance :D

I'm not sure if you can even use somersault at all since frozen tuna is a pole arm.

But to try to answer the question theoretically anyway.... since frozen tuna's damage will be based on strength, and you are aiming for a gunslinger who's base stat is DEX, that frozen tuna is probably going to be obsolete by time you equip a level 20 gun. Or, it might even be obsolete right as you turn pirate.

I tried in-game and confirmed that SSK does work with frozen tuna. Gunslingers do need a certain amount of STR at any rate, so I was thinking of adding just enough STR to use SSK easily and leaving it there until I hit the best level to swap out the tuna for a gun. At the very least, having 20 STR at lvl 10 is comfortable, since by level 20, you'll need 20 STR, and assuming the first 31 SPs go into SSK (lvl 11) and Double Shot (maxed), it is appropriate to switch to guns.

I've asked a couple of other folks, and some say it's possible to make the switch much later, at lvl 30 or even 50. I'm not sure how viable it is to make the switch as late as lvl 50 (this requires maxing SSK and leaving Bullet Time at lvl 11).

Although I didn't use SSK as a main skill I think it'd be a viable option till late 30's when you get invisible shot maxed. IF you choose to do so then ur AP distribution will be: 11 Bullet time, 20 SSK, 20 Double shot and 10 dash. I left it at lvl 11 and didn't use it that much (well I was a gun-only gunslinger MapleF3) I don't know which would be more effective since it took me months getting to lvl 50 xD

With my Gunslinger I went for guns from the start aswell, but I've seen people do it before. And I actually think more effective to go for SSK.

Also consider that SSK will make you spend more HP pots than ranged attacks :) (Ignore if you have enough funds for potions and don't mind the spend)

I cannot believe that didn't occur to me... But yea, the HP pot burn is real.

Presently the pirate is at lvl 17, maxed SSK and 2 points in the movement skill (Dash? Can't remember offhand). Starting to drink potions like a druggie, but I also realized that SSK's horizontal range is longer than what I initially thought. And it's possible to jump + SSK :p

EDIT: Since this is an experiment I've upped the STR all the way to 50 and leaving it there till lvl 50. Damage stands at 30ish to 180ish with a frozen tuna (WA 64) for lvl 17

Using SSK is generally better until lvl 50 or so; SSK with a gun has unstable damage. Frozen Tuna + SSK is a good option because it definitely has more dps compared to invisi shot w/ lvl 30-40 guns, unless you have a godly gun ofc. If you have like 250-300 range with the Frozen Tuna you can dish out 300-400 mobbing damage.
