An NPC located somewhere in Maple Island (most likely Amherst or Southperry), that could exchange your Monster Cards & Omok Pieces for mini-games. You are able to collect 100 Match Cards on the island, as well as 100 Pig / 100 Mushroom Omok Pieces, & Omok Table.

This would allow for Islanders to create mini-games and give them something to do for fun / to pass the time.

I understand the idea of keeping strictly to the vanilla v0.62 Maple Island, but Pet Food was already added to the potion shop in Amherst, and I think this is a similar concept of just improving the experience for Islanders without actually changing much of the gameplay. (Pet Food changes gameplay more than Omok / Cards would, in my honest opinion)

Also, check out Islander Achievements, and go and show your support for this idea as well ^-^.
As stated in last thread, these suggestions should definitely not be more prioritized than more important features, but I think small changes like these can help populate the Maple Island, little by little.

Islanders could still feed their pets by transferring their pets over to a non-Islander via CS, feeding it, then transferring it back. Adding pet food to Maple Island only reduces the inconvenience.
