My complete newbie friend's Maple Journal

Hello! I've decided to record my friend's journey through this cute little mushroom game that he's never played before in his life (Maplestory in general). I will update this journal for each day he plays on MapleLegends for I always get on with him with a new char of my own.

His IGN is SubStars, we will call him Star in this journey.

Day 1 - Training Camp

After we meet both created our characters and met up in-game, I told him to configure his controls to his liking first. This step alone took 30 minutes, and I quote, "There are too many buttons to press!". I felt the same way a long time ago too, young Padawan! Anyway, after he was done with it, I told him to go inside the training camp. But he went inside before my message was even sent. He's a prodigy!


"You are one to talk, you apple head."

We breezed through the quests with no problem since they were just some easy talking quests (though Star read through each dialogue properly, that's the dedication that we can all appreciate...), though he stopped in the middle of our way to stare at the fish tank that resembles Aquarium.

He also thought he didn't finish talking to Nina, so he went back to talk to Nina while standing suspiciously close behind her. Nina must've felt your breath, Star.


We immediately ran into our first problem. Star couldn't pick up the toy drum!

"Don't trust the Z, the Z is a trap!"

We were out of the training camp in no time. Say bye-bye to the ugly apple suit! We were met with Peter, and just when I was about to tell Star to talk to Peter so we can get out of here, he expressed his gratitude by stabbing me in the chest.

I died a miserable death

 

Day 2 - Maple Island

On day two, we had more progress! We passed through the entire Maple Island without much issue, and I tried my best to explain to him what to do.


By throwing him at Robin, I mean.


Through trial and error, he finished the quiz quickly! Though whether he learned something useful or not, I am not sure.

We proceeded to talk to Sam and started our 10 snails hunt, I swiftly ended 10 snails without causing them much pain, but my boi Star was going on a killing spree before even receiving the quest. To be honest, the sound effect of hitting things does sound satisfying.


We ran into this dude called woutie while on our way, who went butt naked and gave me his shirt in the training camp. He suddenly went from naked to being much more fashionable than us, isn't life weird?


We arrived in Amherst! Poor Yoona didn't get to appear because I forgot to capture the part where we hunted blue snails and shrooms. Also, I'd imagine doing quizzes for someone with absolutely zero Maplestory knowledge would be quite hard, so Rain should be a pain in the ass for Star...


The village is kinda alive with Islanders, one of whom gifted me some ATT pot, shoutout to KitsunyChang


I talked to Pio and ran around hitting all the wooden boxes scattered around the village. After doing all these, poor Star was still stuck at the quiz

I think it took more than 3 minutes in total...

We went to talk to Lucas and then returned to Maria to complete the quest. What was unfortunate though was that Star forgot to talk to Lucas first, so we took a detour back to Amherst. When we were finally done, I got the blue headband and he got the green cap, I felt like the blue headband looked better on him than on me, so we switched.

My boi Star got his first chair! The chair kinda reeks of a noob though.


The hair grew out of my cap, yes.

I didn't manage to capture anything while we were completing Mai's four quests, just know that Star had it real easy with all the DEX he had, meanwhile I would've struggled badly were it not for Kitsuny! For a mage, Maple Island is probably the hardest part of their life, but for those who are HP washing, their entire life is a joke until they reset their INT back.

I don't need you, quest! I just need to be level 8!


Excuse me? If not for the fact that you last hitting the snails would benefit us...


Oh man, he missed something! But he didn't know what he missed yet, so I suppose he didn't know that thing on the top right indicates your quest progress.



By the way, we both got red work gloves. I guess we are off to a very average start.

I forgot to capture the moment when Star died to a blue snail! Big missed opportunity, it is his first ever death in the game, after all. Anyway, after helping him get through Bari's quest where you hunt down orange mushrooms and get its cap, we managed to reach Southperry!

Since it was getting late that day, we decided to stop right there and call it a day. Star said he wanted to become an archer, so tomorrow we will work on that.
