Update New Feature: Megaphone Settings

It's been a long time ago since users expressed their opinions about SMEGA's (Super Megaphones) in MapleLegends.

Some feel it makes the server feel more alive, some are neutral about it, and some feel their chat gets spammed with things they don't care about. It's almost like ads thrown into your face about a product you don't care about, except in MapleStory it's usually people selling leech and advertising their leech, while you don't care about any of that, or even hate it. Hating something and seeing it over and over is very demotivating for some.

Other times, people just want some quietness in their mind and gameplay, so want SMEGA's completely off.

A good while ago we finally approved suggestions to enable or disable SMEGA's. However, with the tradition of features in MapleLegends, we wanted to do it right. We could implement a ~mutesmega that takes 5 minutes to add and be done with it, giving absolutely no freedom for users, but that's just not how we do it here.

Introducing: Megaphone settings.


In MapleLegends, you WILL have this freedom, with a very simple to use interface. By typing @megaphone in-game, you will be able to change the visibility of SMEGA's in-game.



Do you only want Super Megaphones muted, but still see the rest? Now you can! We've decided to give this new feature available for everyone.

"B-But Kimmy! I only care about these annoying avatar smegas in the top right corner lagging my game and bothering my 64th Horntail run!!!"

Fear not, my dear users.

With the power of client editing, we've given you even more options. For Avatar Smega's we've implemented 3 options: Visible, Text Only, or Hidden



When 'Text only' is enabled, you will still see the message in the chat (and the correct colour from avatar smegas), but the character will not show up at all, making the client not needing to load the character and causing the known 'lag'.

All the settings are account-bound meaning you only have to apply the settings to 1 account each time.

We also have some other ideas to give even more freedom to this feature (ex: muting Super Megaphones from specific users), but for now, we will have to see still how possible that is, as well as that we ran out of time!

NOTE: Even though this feature is now available, the moderation of Super Megaphones will remain exactly the same. Spamming or posting nonsense SMEGA's in the hope you can reply with 'people can mute it anyway now' is not tolerated and not accepted. You will still get muted (globally muted) if you post unacceptable or spammy megaphone messages

Note 2: Currently disabling item smegas also disables Gachapon item announcements. We are looking into giving Gachapon smegas a special colour in future, similar to later versions.
