Plan B: Island Raffle

I understand that this probably won't ever get implemented, but it was a lot of fun to create/discuss as was the storage idea. The storage suggestion would have been by far the easiest thing to implement with a large impact. Unfortunately rather than go for a small suggest that would more likely to be approve, I went with a vision that would help take Maple Island in a new direction from the common things we see in private servers & solve things I deem as problematic....



I feel events have become an increasing issue when it comes to the Islander community. The following I believe are the main issues having an event meta on Island has brought:

1. Limited Time Event Items: Events in MapleLegends tend to be pretty dynamic and constantly evolving/changing from year to year. When it comes to common armor/weapons, majority do not see a return, resulting in Islanders that are created post event to not reap the same rewards previously Islanders have. (Ex. Super Snowboard, 3rd Anni Party Hat, Mouse Kit, Green Strap Shoes, etc) Further more with the limited pool of items Islanders have to work with, certain gear slots tend to get locked due to stats, like 3rd Anni Party hat for example. Once obtained, there is no other hat that could be implemented to compete, resulting in any new released hats deemed as less desirable (& overall less desirable events).

2. Smuggling: Many events throughout the year have added access to maps where Islanders could trade/drop/access FM. This causes people to bring items you can normally not obtain on Maple Island/use scrolls you wouldn't normally be able to obtain/bring items you might not have gotten from pass events. It has become increasingly common to see SSs being posted in Legends's discord of smuggled items due to them not knowing it was allowed/lack of reproductions. Although some obvious cases of smuggled items have been removed by staff, it is unfortunately common for them to miss some items that may appear legit/have unlegit stats/scrolled with 30s. To me personally, it seems the issue has become too big to fully fix, hence why storage was suggested as a blanket solution.

3. Unexpected Event Exp: Some events may give additional exp. When it comes to Maple Island, even relatively small amounts of exp can be game breaking. Most notably events like the Snowman boss & 2019 Halloween event gave Islanders an abnormal amounts of exp on top of the 10%/15% bonuses. All it would take is one event to drastically screw up the effort put in to leveling an Islander and discredit the time vs exp gained.

4. Event Burn Out/Consistent Activity: With Legends's heavy RNG based events, it is common for Islanders to heavily grind/mule these events for their duration. After which leaves people taking a break/disappointed they weren't able to get an item. This results in the bulk of the Islander activity to be during the duration of an event, rather than consistently through out the year. Meaning not only does the time a person created their Islander impact the gear they are able to obtain, but whether or not they are able to join the community when it comes to the guild/discord/socialization.

To combat these problems, the easier solution of storage was suggested. Unfortunately with the storage suggestion lookin grim, I am here to suggest PLAN B! A permanent Islander raffle.

Permanent Islander Raffle Explanation

I am suggesting that each of Mai's kill 300 quest options (Hair/Eye/Exp) additionally give an untradeable etc. For example something like CPQ's Maple Coin (4001129) but the exact untradeable etc doesn't matter. With this etc + 10 leather (4000021) an Islander will be able to redeem 1 raffle for a random item from Mai. (Item Table will be shown/discussed bellow)

With the addition of a permanent Islander raffle, Islanders will no longer have to depend on event inclusion/make continuous suggestion threads. Additionally specific event items, such as maplemas lights, could be inserted right into the reward table without having to add any additional npcs/reworks/worry about trade/drop/FM access when it comes to event maps. Meaning as well that Islanders don't have to worry about what might be missing in an event/smuggle mechanics/alternative exp gains.

The following thought process on why implement the raffle in this specific way:
1. Encourages party play to complete the 300 quest faster.
2. Prevents muling with an additional 10 leather requirement as the average leather gained per solo killing pigs is 3 per 300.

3. No extra NPCs added.
4. Keeps the 300 quest relevant for continuous party encouragement.

What I hope a permanent Islander raffle will fix/change/improve:
1. Remove the limited time/year people are able to receive items to lessen the GAP between new Islanders/Bad RNG.
2. End additional smuggle bugs that bring unlegit equipment to Maple Island.
3. Make sure no broken alternative exp methods are used from events.
4. Promote party play.
5. Keep Island activity consistent rather than revolving around events.
6. Remove any disadvantages a player would have by creating an Islander today rather than 5 years ago.
7. Lessen the impact of the current smuggled items that exist on Maple Island.
8. Promote trade with a big pool of items.
9. Promote an Island currency when it comes to leather. "I'll trade you 100 leather for [x] item."
10. Stimulate activity through rewarded grinding year round. (In GMS Islanders use to farm stacks of leather to sell in MTS to purchase various items.)

The Reward Table

The goal of these rates/items is to reward long term grinding & encourage trading. The goal was to not having something that is easily grindable/collectible.

Smiling Mask - 1012108 - Gach - A speed face item that will be an alternative option to the 2020 Lunar Event's white mouse kit. Alternatively there is an untradeable version of the item if Staff doesn't want to give us this specific item. Untradeblae lvl 10 Smiling Mask (1012076).

Pig Illustrated - 1322031 - Quest - Although this is a quest exclusive item. There is a lot of Islander lore behind the Pig Illustrated weapon as potentially the greatest weapon to get with its (3) attack speed and mace hit box. Additionally as we kill pigs all day, the item kind of fits really well as a holy grail type of weapon.

Red Whip - 1302013 - Drop - An alternative higher level version of maplemas lights.

Super Snowboard - 1442046 - Drop - One of the best weapons on Maple Island only obtainable through the 2017 anni event. As the item has now become an official Maple Legends drop, there is very little chance Islanders will ever see a comeback of this item.

Palette - 1092022 - Gach - Cool looking shield that has very little value off Island due to its level 30 requirement and 7 slots.

Plastic Bottle - 1332021 - Drop - Fast (3) dagger. This item will be a higher version of the fruit knife that will be easier for Islanders to obtain a min of 80 dmg required to 1 hit everything on Island.

Fan - 1332030 - Gach - A higher version of the item above. This will serve as a reward for players that reach level 65 and above while maintaining the greatness that is fruit knife/Plastic bottle as an Islander.

Glowing Whip - 1302049 - Gach/Drop/Quest? - Very nostalgic item for the MTS era of Islanding. The highest tier of whips available in the game, which is one of the best pieces of gear an Islander can obtain.

Bone Helm - 1002006 - Gach/Quest - The only speed/jump hat available in the game that can compete with the 3rd anni party hat's whopping 11 speed 6 jump that was available for literally 1 puff lol.

Rare [10%] - Rare rewards include some of the best shoes to scroll as well as bathrobes. They are separated into their own category to ensure you can roll them as they will be items heavily sought after to throw 10% scrolls on.

Additionally this is an untradeable item that has no real use off Island if you can't obtain it early game.

Heart Staff - 1372031 - Gach - High level staff that high level magelanders can use, as well as people playing perfectlanders whom aim to have the stats to use all items.

Common [58%] - The most common set of rewards includes a large amount of consumables. Helps keep regular equipment on the rarer side to avoid easy collection of all the equips available that result in a trading/currency system on Maple Island. As we saw with previous a server, having easy access to a gachapon with a large amount of equips made them instantly worthless/dropable. Additionally we also saw in a different server that making 10% scrolls stupid rare gave them 0 purpose on the Island as it would have taken months of grinding to be able to scroll a single item in an off meta map.

I originally had this as glove for HP, but upon further investigation this glove scroll seemed to be way more common as the 10% gloves for hp seems to only drop from Timer/not in gach.

Scroll for Shield for STR 10% - 2040933 - Drop (Only from Timer) - This scroll seems equally as shit as Shield for Def, as Shield for ATT scrolls also give STR. Idk anyone who would scroll a shield for STR as even the smallest amount of ATT on a shield will outclass a well scroll shield with STR.

Scroll for Pet Equip. for Jump 60% - 2048004 - Drop - Allows Islanders to scroll pet equips without having to do it off Island.

I tried my best to limit this assortment of items to things that are alternative to past event items, no event exclusive items, no quest exclusive items (with exception to Pig Illustrated), items that have yet to be implemented in Legends, & non expensive items.

Items such as:

Aren't implemented into the game as far as I can see, hence why they aren't included in the table.


This suggestion has been discussed for quite a while with a few islanders but most of the feedback I get tends to fall about inclusion of certain items/favorites.

 

Forgot to mention this, but the original main reason I chose raffle vs another quest option/separate quest was to have stat rolls on the equips. In the past when having custom quests, the stats have all been locked at average. It seemed like stat rolls weren't an option for quests when discussed & then not sure if you could also split separate % tables in a quest as well. As events & the new CWK exchange have stat rolls and separate % tables, I'm assuming this wouldn't be an issue?

 

I purposely tried to make the list as digestible as possible while also trying to balance out the benefit of a huge item pool. My thought process was doing my best to make a table where the discussion wouldn't get caught up on if [event item] should remain an exclusive (as well as other unadded items/things that hold value) which possibly could end up stalling the suggestion as whole in internal discussions. Even though the suggestion is pretty wild already.

The fork would be great to have year round, as a lot of islanders/oddjobs enjoy being able to utilize the fork for a unique experience. I can also understand why they might hesitate to make it widely available as it can be quite easy to trigger auto bans (esp at lower levels). If a custom fork were to be added, I think it would be beneficial to both new players/staff to add something like a 50 luk requirement, to ensure that the auto ban doesn't get triggered.

 

Well if something like this does get implemented, maybe some clarification on what we can & can't add would be nice when it comes to items like these as the discussion seems to just be about adding items lol:

From talking with a few islanders, some wonder if the 5 leather requirement is too low (which started to get in my head as well). So I tried to compile some data so we can get a rough idea what the current rates look like/how much time it takes to grind.

*These are rough numbers to just get an idea compiled from data with 1 hit/max speed*


Above are the assumptions I used to then compile how long the quest would take with a 5 leather requirement vs 10 leather requirement.

So we can see that by double the amount of leather required, the rates of which you complete the quest doesn't increase by that much (50 Raffle Completions adds roughly 13 more hours of grinding). Additionally this increase has no impact on the amount of time it takes to complete the 300 quest, only adding the required amount of time in which a person would be hunting pigs.

I discusses these numbers pretty heavily with Salt & jung1e, & we feel that an increase from 5 leather to 10 would be beneficial in the longevity of the quest + give the players more choices.

What an increase from 5 to 10 leather does?
1. Solidifies the use of leather as a currency.
2. Gives the player an option to farm the quest or farm for leather (maximizing exp), as the requirement for quest completion vs leather becomes closer to 50/50 varying on the amount of people in the party during questing. (Solo = more time completing quest vs Party = Increases amount of time to farm leather)
3. Allow people that would choose to farm leather a better opportunity in trading said leather to players that choose to farm the quest more heavily.
4. Increases the longevity of the raffle's life span by slightly increasing the amount of time each raffle takes.
5. Helps burn through the existing amount of leather already on the island.

What the spread on average would look like for 50 raffle completions.


Using the 55 hour duo time to complete 50 raffles with a 10 leather requirement, the time can better be visualized by comparing it to the following

In conclusion the sweatlanders are updating the leather requirement of the original post to 10.

 

Gachapon use to be teased earlier in Legends as a possibility. Plan C when this gets rejected!

In comparison though I feel like the raffle is superior as it does the following:

1. Encourages party play through the 300 kill quest.
2. Gives more maps on Maple Island purpose as the 300 kill quest becomes more relevant rather than just sitting at DF or pigs.
2. Creates a possible currency.
3. The work required to obtain items on Maple Island is done on Maple Island which was a concern for some in the Storage thread. (xfering tickets from offland to island)
4. Doesn't add another NPC.


Additionally it seems like the rate at which you get gachapon tickets is higher than the amount of time it takes to complete a raffle, so all of the data and rates collected would be thrown out the window. (Judging this off the fact that I have 52 Common 2 Gold 9 Rare after a week of playing)
