MapleStory Ice/Lightning Wizard Skills + Skill Build
    (by: ayumilove13)

    Requirement: Level 30
Once you’ve reached Lv 30, go back to Ellinia’s Magic Library, which is located at the highest point of Ellinia. Go inside, talk to Grendel the Really Old. He’ll give you a letter and you’ve to pass it to the job advancement instructor located at the north of Ellinia. After giving the letter, you’ll be given an errand to collect 30 Dark Marbles by defeating the monsters inside. Be careful to stock your potions up before you start collecting the 30 Dark Marbles. Once you’ve collected 30 Dark Marbles, talk to the instructor, and he’ll award you with a Proof of a Hero. Go back to Ellinia’s Magic Library, and talk to Grendel the Really Old once again, where then you’ll advance as the Ice/Lightning Wizard.

    How to read this skill build? 16 – 18 means Level 16, 17 and 18 [Level 16 to 18]. For 20 – 20, it means only Level 20.
The guide below is purely a personal recommendation and need not be followed.
Each skill listed below has advices/tips shared by senior players to guide you in building your character!

    Pearl of Knowledge:
Ice/Lightning Wizard specializes in freezing monsters and dealing extra damage against
monsters that are weak ice and weak lightning. This type of wizard is both offense and
defense, a mix of Cleric and Fire/Poison mage, where it could use its freezing ability to defend
himself from being hurt by monster while dealing lots of damage similar to Fire/Poison
Wizard. Some monsters are not freezable.

    Ice Skill Build
Saving Meso Build through Cold Beam (Freeze)

    30 – 30 : Teleport 1
    31 – 40 : Cold Beam 3 [MAX]
    41 – 41 : MP Eater 3
    42 – 47 : Meditation 3
    48 – 48 : Meditation 2 [MAX], Thunderbolt 1
    49 – 57 : Thunderbolt 3
    58 – 58 : Thunderbolt 2 [MAX], Teleport 1
    59 – 64 : Teleport 3 [Max Teleport!]
    65 – 69 : MP Eater 3
    70 – 70 : MP Eater 2, Slow 1 [Max Mp Eater!]

    Summary – Total 121 SP
Cold Beam [MAX] / Thunderbolt [MAX] / Slow [1/20]
    MP Eater 20 [MAX] / Meditation 20 [MAX] / Teleport 20 [MAX]

    Reason for this Build
This build is for players who would like to save MP Potions. Cold Beam is maxed first so that you can have both offense and defense skill. Cold Beam has similar traits as Magic Claw which can go through any obstacles but Cold Beam has the ability freeze! You could attack monster from far range compare to Thunderbolt.

    Lightning Skill Build
Power Leveling for Funder Players, spamming Thunderbolt against mobs!

    30 – 30 : Teleport 1
    31 – 40 : Thunderbolt 3 [MAX]
    41 – 41 : MP Eater 3
    42 – 47 : Meditation 3
    48 – 48 : Meditation 2 [MAX], Cold Beam 1
    49 – 57 : Cold Beam 3
    58 – 58 : Cold Beam 2 [MAX], Teleport 1
    59 – 64 : Teleport 3 [MAX]
    65 – 69 : MP Eater 3
    70 – 70 : MP Eater 2 [MAX], Slow 1

    Summary – Total 121 SP
Cold Beam [MAX] / Thunderbolt [MAX] / Slow [1/20]
    MP Eater 20 [MAX] / Meditation 20 [MAX] / Teleport 20 [MAX]

    Reason for this Build
This is for players who want to max out Thunderbolt first, and Cold Beam later. This build focuses on killing mobs (many monster) at close range. However, close range would result in consuming more HP Potions since there is a high frequency of bumping into monster. Nevertheless, maxing thunderbolt first speed up training similar to Cleric Heal. Thunderbolt deals more damage compare to Cleric Heal but in a disadvantage of spamming HP Potions and MP Potions (if magic guard is activated!)

Pure Ice or Pure Lightning Skill Build
For Pure Ice, replace Thunderbolt below with Cold Beam, and vice versa.

    30 – 30 : Teleport 1
    31 – 40 : Thunderbolt 3 [MAX]
    41 – 46 : Teleport 3
    47 – 47 : Teleport 1 [MAX], Mp Eater 2
    48 – 48 : MP Eater 1, Meditation 2
    49 – 54 : Meditation 3 [MAX]
    55 – 59 : MP Eater 3
    60 – 60 : MP Eater 2 [MAX], Slow 1
    61 – 66 : Slow 3
    67 – 67 : Slow 1 [MAX], Cold Beam 2
    68 – 70 : Cold Beam 3

    Summary – Total 121 SP
Cold Beam [11/30] Thunderbolt [MAX] OR Cold Beam 30 [MAX] Thunderbolt [11/30]
    MP Eater 20 [MAX] / Meditation 20 [MAX] / Teleport 20 [MAX] / Slow 20 [MAX]

    Reason for this Build
For extreme players who want to be pure (1 core offense skill) with Slow maxed!

    Skills

    [IMG] MP Eater
    MP Eater
Drain enemy’s MP after every magic attack unless enemy MP reaches 0 Mp. Works passively (automatic). Most people recommend to max this skill as it saves you a lot of Mp potions (saves meso) during 2nd and 4th job training. If you see Blue Stars encircling your character, it shows that Mp Eater is activated. Cleric love this skill because undead monsters has the highest Mp compare to other monsters. Mp Eater works on single and multiple-monsters. However, the total Mp drained for a single vs multiple is equivalent.

    [IMG] Meditation
    Meditation
Temporarily boost up the magic attack of party members nearby. It works on all jobs (warrior, thief, bowman, magician, pirate). However, magician is the only one who will be benefiting from this temporary magic attack boost since they deal damage via magic attack. Does not stack with magic attack potion booster. Recommended to be Max!

    [IMG] Teleport
    Teleport
Use the arrow keys to teleport to other places in the same map on a set distance. Useful to move around within large maps quickly, assist in training (reach to the monster quicker), escape from monster attacks (teleport away). Teleport is able to move you left, right, up and down. It is also required in Ludibrium Party Quest. In short, this skill is recommended to be Max

    [IMG] Slow
    Slow
Temporarily slows down 6 opponents around you. Can’t use it on them twice at once. Works on boss monsters (e.g. Crimson Balrog, Anego, Werewolf). This skill could be dropped (Not a must to max this). This works handy when you solo boss monster alone, if your knockback does not work, it gives you sufficient time to teleport away while your enemy crawls towards you (slow effect)

    [IMG] Cold Beam
    Cold Beam
Temporarily freezes a target. Fire-based receive 1.5X damage, but ice-based enemies get half. This skill is commonly added first because it is meso making skill. You temporarily freeze the monster so they could not counterattack you (no bumping/spell attack) and this is how you save Hp potions. This skill works best on Fire-base monsters (deals extra damage) but weak against Ice-base monsters. It could go through obstacles (similar to Magic Claw 1st job skill)

    [IMG] Thunder Bolt
    Thunder Bolt
Affects 6 enemies nearby. Weak lightning receive 1.5X damage, but anti lightning get half. This skill deals less damage than Cold Beam on a single monster, however if its collectively (mobs), then Thunderbolt damage shines! When Thunderbolt affects 6 mobs at once, its total damage is double than Cold Beam. This skill is useful to clear mobs (lots of monsters). Able to hit monsters above and below your platform. Unlike Cleric heal skill, you could not jump and cast Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt skill requires you to be close to monster, so you might spam some potion (waste meso)

    Levels 8-30
This is the typical build for every Mage starting out. If you're using an alternative method to level up from the lower levels, level up Energy Bolt after you've maxed out Improve MaxMP Increase. You'll want to max out Magic Claw right after because it's going to be your main skill for training.
    Level 30-70
For optimal leveling, I suggest going with Teleport first for mobility and Thunderbolt. A mobbing skill is always extremely useful for training. Cold Beam isn't very useful because you'll be leveling up very fast anyway and there isn't any training location that's ice weak that gives very good XP or mesos. After Thunderbolt, Teleport should maxed right after to maximize distance per cast. I don't recommend putting points into Meditation early on because Wizard Elixirs from New Leaf City do the exact same thing, but last longer. Slow is not commonly used because most end game bosses are either stationary or already very slow. You'd probably be better off maxing out Magic Armor in your first job skill tree.
    Levels 70-120
The core skills you'll be focusing on are Element Amplification, Ice Strike and Spell Booster. Other than these three skills, the rest of them aren't really important to max out. Thunder Spear is extremely slow, Seal has little to no use in many situations, Partial Resistant to Ice/Lightning doesn't happen very often and Element Composition a subpar 1v1 skill.

This is where skill builds will depend on what Elemental Wand/Staff you've obtained.

Focus on Ice Strike unless you have an Elemental Wand 4 (25% Lightning Damage/10% Ice Damage). With an Elemental Wand 4, you'll be able to do a lot of damage with Thunderbolt and can still be very useful post level 70 because of the extra speed it has over Ice Strike and the fact that attack range doesn't matter too much in early 70s and 80s. You'll have an easier time in the beginning 3rd job levels because the main training location will be Wolf Spiders. Focus on getting Spell Booster to level 11 for the +2 casting speed. After that, you'll go back to the traditional route of maxing Ice Strike, Element Amplification and Spell Booster.

Ice Strike is an extremely fun and effective skill. The range is amazing and really shines in certain training areas like Petrifighters. Make sure to get an Elemental Wand 3 for Ice Strike for the +25% Ice Damage.

If you have an Elemental Wand 4:
If you have an Elemental Wand 3:

I wouldn't recommend this, but then again it's not too important. I'd go for either Cold Beam or Slow
