    Hi,

Today I did a factory reset and this also resulted in my PC keyboard settings revert to default. While this is also annoying when you hold a key (example you want say gzzzzzzzzzzz you need wait a full second until the other zz's appear), this actually also effects your loot speed (when holding Z) and skill usage in general.

Example. When you hold heal, you need wait a full second until it heals again (and than finally it keeps going). I confirmed this case by putting it on highest and it took me 3 seconds until it healed me again, and looting (by holding Z and going over the items) got insanely annoying. With the setting on shortest delay I can hold Z near items and pick them up all right away, without delay!

With this I wanted write a guide for those not aware of this setting, to have a better experience when playing MapleStory. In general you should put the delay on shortest, its really nice when you write lettersssssssssss that repeat itself.

    1) Go to Control Panel
    2) Go to Keyboard
Now you will see something like this:
    3) Put repeat delay on SHORT(est) setting
    4) Apply
    5) Done!

You should now be able to loot a lot of items near each other quickly by holding Z and using skills where you hold the button much should no longer have a delay at the first go. Pretty much how I already play for years. Now you can too!

    Enjoy.

Made the topic a sticky because personally I believe its really need (especially when I noticed how terrible its to play with this delay) to put it on shortest. Looting items when you hold Z is much more smooth without delay.

Awesome. I already did use the holding down trick to loot, and this should make it kick in quicker. :)

I don't notice any difference in anything in game. What is it supposed to feel like in game?

Its only really noticeable if you often loot drops near where you are holding Z instead of tabbing Z, or whatever key you use to pick up items. Its not noticeable for skills since they have enough delay for the keyboard delay not to matter.

FYI The keyboard delay and repeat should be configurable on any system. I for example use Arch linux with KDE + wine. On any *nix system there are command line tools for this, and kde/gnome also have a gui.

    Linux command line -
    $ sudo kbdrate -r 10.9 -d 250
r flag denotes a per second rate, and d flag denotes delay before rate begins after initial keypress.

    For mac users -
Keyboard settings has some control over this, but it's not enough for some people, the following commands can be used via command line to adjust fully.
defaults write -g InitialKeyRepeat -int 10 # normal minimum is 15 (225 ms)
defaults write -g KeyRepeat -int 1 # normal minimum is 2 (30 ms)

Awesome! Thank you! I always wondered why I had no delay on my old keyboard but this one did. It must not of been the keyboard but an update.
