Before we start; for all of you who do not know what botting is; let me give you a run down.

    1. An Internet bot, also known as web robot, WWW robot or simply bot, is a software application that runs automated tasks over the Internet. Typically, bots perform tasks that are both simple and structurally repetitive, at a much higher rate than would be possible for a human alone; i.e. Macros, Programs, etc.

Now, while people DO bot on MapleStory, we have to ask ourselves : Why?

It cannot be simply because "They want to achieve a higher level".

I myself, will admit I used to bot, and hack on GMS back in the day.
      But why?

Well, for one thing; I felt that I did not have anyone to train with, or anything like that.
I felt as if it was bland, and boring.

Now, this is just an idea; but lets say someone is caught Botting.
Now, what are the things you can do?

      1. (If you're a GM) Ban them.
      2. Reason with them.

Ask them why they feel the need to bot.
Perhaps they cannot make any friends, or simply don't have anyone to train with.
This scenario DOES happen a lot, and while you may be thinking "OH THEY'RE JUST LAZY AND DON'T WANT TO LEVEL"; This is not always the case.

Now, I'm not speaking 100% from personal experience,
But if a GM finds someone botting, perhaps just throwing down the ban hammer may be too sudden.
Someone awhile ago, once told me "I do not believe in bans, I believe people have a reason for doing what they do, and if you can talk to them, and help them, they can break the habit."

Perhaps if someone is botting, a GM can simply ask the community "Does anyone want to train with "____"?

That will perhaps help the person make friends, and it solves a lot of problems rather than simply entering a command and banning them.

      It's like prison.
It doesn't solve much, and they're more than likely going to do it again, but try to be more secretive.

Anyway, this is just my way of thinking.
I like to think outside the box, and try and solve things peacefully.

This, however may not apply to a hacker-- because a hacker is going out of their way to ruin the game for everyone with illegal things. (and yes, I know botting is illegal too, but hacking just seems more extensive.)

      Anyway, just food for though.
      What do you guys think?
