Odd Jobs Community Thread

Can someone please add me back in discord pleasee? I was away for awhile for medical reasons and I think I got kicked :/.

 

I had to ask around and may be wrong but it seems like your discord account is still in the Suboptimal and Oddjobs discords. Is it possible your account changed between then and now? You can contact deer at @capreolina on discord or also me (@dilkdrinker) and get it sorted.

 

Oh weird, yeah I figured I wasn't kicked but the only servers visible atm are the full server discord and my non OJ guild discord...hmm

So.... This is new for me. I'm gonna introduce a new character that I've made recently.

ENTER manni!


A little bit about manni. He's a 'steelman' which means that he's an oddjob but with certain restrictions similar to an ironman.
The oddjob that I decided to go with is a Hybrid of a Punch Slinger/Pugilist/Luk pirate and he does not wield any weapon.. I've never tried a pirate and therefore I thought I'd give it a go with manni. Also, manni was created as a means of making full use of my time when there is a 'PQ downtime'. As I'm from Singapore (+8 GMT), there are very few people doing PQs at the timings that I'm most active and hence, manni was born.

Self-imposed restrictions:
NO Trades
NO Merchants (with exception of grocers for pots)
NO funding from any sources
NO PQs allowed (Except PPQ for that pirate hat drip & APQ for the appos)
NO looting of other player's loots
Partying outside of PQ only allowed during bossing
*Those are the only ones I could think of for now*

Started off in Maple Island as per usual. *No pics cause I forgot *
PSA to everyone trying to get to lv 21 for KPQ and what not, there are 2 quests in Floating Market that gives a whooping 30k EXP and it's easy to complete! He only requires you to give him some branches and wood for him to make what seems to be a wooden sword. *I might be wrong due to that thing on my face.*

The other guy, Toon, only requires 10 screws which you can easily get off the Free Market OR do John's jump quest. (easiest JQ imo) and TADAH! Level 21.


As per usual I leveled him up through quests and managed to get him to 25 with Winston's quest completed just before GM Buffs ended.


Next, I went to do Camila's Gem and otw to deliver this beaut of a marble, I hit a pig and a card dropped. What are the odds! Taima

Legend of the Snail quest was a tough one as I had to come back at level 27 to complete it due to the fact that MANO, the old wise snail, was taking an hour's nap.

Did all the Ariant Questline and hit the big 3.0. but continued on to 32 before I went for a promotion that I had to earn with blood, sweat and tears from Kyrin. The only time I wielded a weapon was in this TEST that Kyrin had planned for me.... it was nerve-wrecking as I only had the 3 sets of 600 bullets given when I became a pirate and the lv 10 gun which she lent to me for my adventures. With only 98 bullets left and a gun that I had in my hand to show Kyrin I was worthy, she promoted me to a Gunslinger!


Thoughts:
I really had fun on manni on Day 1. It was challenging and entertaining throughout that 8 hours of torture but I had fun. I hope to post more updates on manni at every milestone that he achieves.

Finally another steelman, and with such a unique oddjob blend~! What a fun read! I don't think anyone could consider your post mediocre or poorly written.

Are you aware that pugilists can choose to wear a shield (or not, if it feels silly to punch holding a shield to you)? This can further increase their damage without actually wielding a weapon. It may help manni out, and give you more items to hunt scrolls for (especially since you're going the no-equipment-merchant route).

I'm not too familiar with pirate job advancements but I recall that Kyrin forces the player to use certain skills, and therefore probably a gun sometimes, during the advancement tests. Glad to see that manni doesn't have a problem pistol-whipping his way through the advancements.

I loved reading the start of manni's adventure! We want more! Give us more! ARGH (the sound that a pirate makes)!

 

Just looking to see if y'all have a guild active? Im working on a Low-Int Pizard right now with LuckyZam, but I'll probably remake InBomb (Lukless Dit) at some point.
I'll be on all day if someone's around.

Oh my goodness, it's been forever. You might remember me as icy89firaga back in the day. I would really love to mess around with some oddball builds on here aside from my permanent Beginner. Not sure what I'll do yet, as my life is a lot more hectic now. It's great to see my hero still around <3 !

 

Let's say hello to a new odd job in town. He's none other than OopsAllDEX, the pure DEX Brawler!

He is a bit of an outcast from other Brawlers who prefer punching with raw brute strength. Instead, he loves to punch with extreme accuracy and agility. This was made after thinking long and hard about which odd job I wanted to play alongside my permanent STR Beginner, KingSylvius. My reasons were as follows:

1. I hardly ever played Pirates and have the least experience with them
2. I felt a pure DEX Brawler would be a good fun way to learn the pirate
3. Because why not?

A few things I quickly learned is that early on, you're basically playing as a wannabe Gunslinger. I mean my damage range with a Steel Knuckler was literally 11 ~ 14, the exact same as being unarmed, but 4 ~ 40 with a Pistol. It wasn't until around my mid 20s I started to play actually relying on Flash Fist and Somersault Kick, where my damage was very stable and solid. All I can say is, wow. An attack shield is an extreme god-send in the early levels. Feels nice too that I can hybridize to an extent, especially with maple weapons. A few other things I learned from this 1-30 journey so far:

1. SSK is absolutely trash while wielding a gun (I'm guessing Guns count as "swings", which SSK counts as a "stab"?)
2. Early levels relying on your fists going pure DEX is awful.
3. Feels nice to never have to worry about missing unless I'm fighting something way out of my league.
4. The damage really started to pick up with Flash Fist and SSK around the mid to upper 20s.
5. Yellow Lizards are extremely underrated to grind at.
6. Even with the nerf to avoid, I still got slightly higher avoid post 2nd job and a ~50% boost to accuracy.
7. Somehow my unarmed damage went up post 2nd job...why?

Hello, my name is Equalstat.



My goal is to get to third job while keeping my base stats equal.

If adding AP to a stat would cause a lack of balance then that AP can't be used. MP/HP do not count.

There are no exceptions for Job requirements. I am going to be a Beginner for a while longer than usual.

Perhaps foolishly this is not the only handicap:
- No obtaining or selling goods/services from/to any player character.
- Gacha coupons can be used but the items can't be sold, they can be given away to a different character, including mine.
- No assistance from any player character. Faming is excluded from this rule. GM buffs are included in this rule.
- No reviving.
- No autopot from pet.
- No fast travel until the location has been travelled to on foot or by regular means like a ship. Fast travel includes scrolls. Teleports like from Manji are allowed but reusing them without payment is not allowed and until the location is visited in the "regular" way no other means of fast travel are allowed. Teleport rocks are only allowed to be used for cities that have been visited naturally before.
- Shops can be used only in one designated location. This designation can change every 5 levels. Abstaining from changing the location does not carry over to the future and is forfeit after levelling up. level 1 is treated as level 0, so these designations happen on level 5, 10, 15 and so on. My first designation is Amherst.
- The designated shopping area can't be fast travelled to. No cheeky setting the area as Amoria and fast travelling to Henesys, this is against the rule. NLC/Kerning and similar are fine though as you have to board a vessel/this is the "usual" link to the place. Using NLC return scroll in Amoria also is against the rule. I could go on and on but this is a No Vehicles In The Park (https://novehiclesinthepark.com/) situation. Think about the spirit of the rule.
- If a situation arises that the rules aren't clear on, heed the spirit of the rule, not the letter.

Which path are you planning to go on the STR Mage Charles ? Pretty curious about this honestly.

 

Gotta go cleric for that sweet accuracy boost and eventual HS...somewhat useful to a party!

 

Charles remember to tell deer which skills you can use because deer's site update everything so far i know Magic Guard can use one handed weaon like sword so i think Magic Guard can use other weapons as well.
