Revert Demon King Tower to last years version

    EDIT: Ok, the title is a bit of a wrong choice but too late to change that now MapleF12 What I personally would want is the skill ceiling to be a bit lower so more people (yes, the "noobs") can clear it too. So not necessarily revert all the work that went into it. I do love the long jump, the new elements and overall redesigns, but its simply too difficult in its current form. Lots of great suggestions and discussions now, thank you all! Foxpat

    As title says. That version was already challenging enough for plenty of people, but with enough practice it was doable. I know its only day 2 but all i hear is people complaining how difficult it is this year, and how they need 12 hours straight to even get near clearing floor 15...

    Last years version brought people together, laughing at their fails, cheering eachother on. This year is relentless, turning people away. Personally I do highly appreciate the efforts to make it different, the addition of new elements (bigger jumps, the one from the " avoid" training!) is nice. However, if it is so difficult that people struggle so hard, its too much. A challenge is good, but too extreme is not.

    Im well aware that there are people who can still solo it. Those people will always exist and they do not necessarily represent the skill level of the majority of players. It should be balanced in such way that the vast majority of players CAN finish it without spending the entire week on it.

    I was not terrible at it last year, but Ive already giving up on getting the pendant this year after trying for serveral hours. As much as 500hp (effectively 1k for my HP challenged shad) is, it is not worth the immense frustration for me. I will instead turn to Reach, as that is very boring but atleast doable.

    What about you guys? What do you think of it?

    It would be better if they add back the previous layer and mark it as 'Normal Mode' so that way people can experience ol and classic jump quest. Of course the awards can be low like 1 raffle per 5 floor clear which total of 4 per run. As for the current setup will be 'HARD MODE' where it displays the current jump quest with possible tweaks here and there to make it more friendly as currently i think this is wayyyyy punishing than the usual jump quest...
    Example:
    Oh missed the perfectly framed jump? off you go yeets you off the map
    Oh missed the long jump timing? welp too bad fell off the map
    Oh mobs coming to your face and there's no way to dodge it while flying? too bad man - 1 health
    Oh touched the wrong springs at the floor 12? welp get trolled dude kek trolled off the map
    Oh also here's a hectic amount of saws when a bunch of mobs and mechanics is not enough -1 health

    There's probably more coming along the way, but these are the notable bad experiences i had, not to mention the Long Jump can be quite grief to jump where sometimes i jump off and click the skill button but somehow didn't register due to lag which is horrendus.

    Last but not the least.....
    THOSE FREAKING GOBLINS AT FLOOR 6 LEAVE ME ALONEEEEEEEE -1 health

    but honest speaking, the best tweak would be reducing some mobs/obstacles to make it abit more friendly but still challenging enough... especially in beginning levels where we should have at least breeze time.

    Yeah they definitely ramped up the difficulty this time around. Last year felt like a good balance where the ultra sweats could solo as a flex and the more casual players could team up to clear it in a reasonable amount of time.

    floor 6 is gonna make me blow my head off xD. We need to make some adjustments or make it to where whomever finishes the floor will tele everyone to the next floor or something

    I do enjoy this Demon Tower a lot.

    The 2 issues I see are:
    1. The tower is way more difficult and takes way longer. Last year you could clear 1-20 within 13 minutes with a speedrunning party, now 13 minutes will get you to the next checkpoint if you do it flawless. This in itself isn't a problem, but having the same requirement for the main reward as last year, while the PQ is way more difficult and probably 4x longer seems like a lot considering most people have multiple characters these days.

    2. I can hardly imagine people who aren't at least a bit interested in jump quests/movement will be able to clear at all or within a time which could be considered reasonable.

    Still, I love Demon Tower :yay:

    Yeah I am currently just accepting that I won't get certain event items because I can't get past certain points even if I am in a party or not. I was to pumped now I'm just deflated and kinda sad to play rn

    It takes time to learn and get good at new jq. People were not clearing in 13 mins the first few days on the old jq. I personally have been having fun with the new one despite not clearing it yet. Thank you staff for making fun content :laugh:

    Really not sure what the bigger turnoff is, the JQ itself or the smug attitudes people are having about it.

    I'm ok with the difficulty but there are a few things that I think are complete bullshit and just annoying for the wrong reasons; i.e bad design. I've written this on discord but writing it here for the record:

    1. Fall damage in a platformer is stupid, unintuitive, and a violation of the traditional platformers that the DKT is trying to emulate.

    2. Spawn us at the nearest checkpoint, NOT outside. Feels annoying and time-wasting

    3. Don't put monsters at the top of ladders like the level 6 goblin. It's not really hard to get past but it's frustrating and irritating for the wrong reasons

    I enjoy the challenge overall but I'm also someone who has enjoyed learning classic NES platformers my whole life (being able to beat Ninja Gaiden legit is one of my secret achievements in life that noone cares about). I can see how this mode would just be way too harsh for the average maple player with how shockingly unforgiving it gets.

    I understand the temptation to be smug and go all gitgud on everyone but like damn this just isnt very fair is it? This "platforming game" we call maplelegends rarely ever traisn/,tests your platforming skills and the most your average player ever does is the zakum jq and theyre usually dragged kicking and screaming through it ONCE and never again. Basing the entire summer event around something so brutal just seems a bit sadistic, and dunking on people commiserating about it is also pretty low

    this doesn’t sound like it’d work at all when running in a party with an instanced session, unless you want to allow people to resume a partially cleared tower

    similar to that though, a nice forgiveness system that is probably too late to implement would be a teleport from the bottom of every map to the start at the cost of a heart - adding more hearts won’t do much if a lot of people are dying to falls anyway (but you could of course do both). i wouldn’t mind lowering the skill floor in ways that don’t harm the ceiling too much

    that said, i think people are still knee-jerking too hard by rose-tinted reminiscing everybody’s proficiency last end-of-event. let’s not forget the swarm of similar complaints last year and just give it a little longer before making up our minds? dkt is one of the only difficult pieces of content we ever get and i absolutely love that it’s been ramped up further

    True; I havent had too much time to play yet and havent gone in a party as of yet. I think Gurk's comment in another thread made more sense in that case: to allow long jumping in Retro Town so we can get back to the tower faster

    The only thing i would change is the random enemy spawns. Having a flying mob coming your way when youre jumping ropes / mid air is just awfull.
    Besides that - its a pretty OP event reward, that you need to put time in to getting it *practice* seems fair.
    Once you figured out how the enemys behave and the traps/obsturacles function & you know how to run it its way easier.
    4 Clears in 1 Month seems doable for everyone.
