Completed Scheduled Maintenance: January 4, 2022

Hello Maplers,

We will be performing a Scheduled Maintenance on Tuesday, January 4. It will last approximately 30 minutes. Upon completion, the game will be brought back online and service will be restored. Once restored, you can log in and play!

Time:
5:50 PM server time
(6:50 PM CET)

What will be unavailable:

• All MapleLegends game servers and channels
• Merchants will be closed
• In-game name change requests using @changeign automatically processed

Changes and Updates:

• Fixing the memory leak mentioned in the previous maintenance

Additional details:

Like we've mentioned in the previous maintenance we took a memory dump in order to figure out where our new memory leak is coming from. After the dump was investigated we quickly discovered where it was coming from, developed a fix, and here we are. The leak was coming from one of the new code changes we've made to our scripting system, where there was a small oversight where the NPC system does not properly "destroy" itself if the person closed the dialogue in particular ways.

For those that don't know a memory leak is a leak that causes part of your code, an object, or anything to not "remove" itself properly if it's no longer in use. Slowly, the "garbage data" stacks, stacks, stacks until you run out of memory. Once you run more and more out of memory the server gets laggier and laggier, until there's none of it left. You may have noticed a few days ago the server first started to spike every 5 minutes, then 1, then 30 seconds, then 5 seconds, and then started auto-ban people. It goes kinda like that, which is why the leak had to be found and fixed as soon as possible.

Once again we thank you for the patience and hopefully, this was the major memory leak in our code, so the server can stay online again longer.
