So this is what I did. Except when I went back to el nath the 2nd time, I noticed my shoes were slipping so I went to bought myself a nice pair of snowshoes. I decide to walk back, right in the middle of my journey does the cake boss spawns! I participate in the cake event to find myself getting more bear messengers. After the event, I walk back to the zakum alter again, just to realize that, yep, I forgot to start the quest again.

 

Scrolled a clean bwg and yellow marker, ended up with 6 att on both
