Accepted Make Cosmetic Event Rewards Last Longer

Discussion in 'Accepted' started by Taima, Feb 12, 2024.

When should purely cosmetic event rewards expire?

    There's been various suggestions throughout MapleLegends' existence calling for the extension of duration for cosmetic event equippable items in different ways. Let's list them off because this idea is old as hell and hasn't to my knowledge received a response or any official acknowledgement. Maybe it doesn't require any acknowledgement, but the designers of these events put a lot of work into the events and we love that shit. We love it so much that a lot of players probably would like to enjoy their cosmetic, non-gameplay-enhancing rewards from them for just a bit longer.

    * Make event nx permenant (2017 November)
    * Event Equips Time Extender (2021 November)
    * Make temporary event NX available in the CS after they have expired (2022 November)
    * Perma Event Cosmetic Item (2023 May)
    * Add Event NX to the Donor CS (2023 November)

    MapleF8:thumbsup:
    MapleF10:thumbsdown:

    These ideas can be boiled down to a few simplifications, to keep it short:

    * Just make them permenant permanent, nothing else
    * Add in some sort of Cash Shop item that can extend the duration of event equips, purchased using either regular vote cash or donor cash
    * Allow event cosmetics to be purchased from the cash shop after the event duration or the equip expiry duration has passed
    * Allow pernemamant... uhh, permanent versions of event cosmetics to be purchased with donor cash

    These are actually really good ideas, and none of them have been considered or responded to. But maybe that makes sense, if there's disagreement over how it should be executed, or worries over having to code in a new NX-extension feature. Can't we understand the pitfall of permanent equips clogging up our cash shop inventories? What if the devs don't want to add in the NX trash gobbler NPC! Why can't we just shut our F5ing mouths and let them expire gracefully?

    I'd like to toss in a simple idea that can be executed without the need to change much of anything about events. Make event cosmetic equipment last until at least next year's date of the holiday(s) that it is meant to celebrate! This is the bare minimum I ask for. Look at exhibit P (P is for Poopoo):

    12/NINETEEN/2024? Are you shittin' me?

    What the flippin' pancakes is that guys? Twelve slash nineteen??? Did someone get their official MapleLegends Staff Doritos finger grease all over the last two weeks of their 2024 calendar?

    Jokes aside, it should be a simple fix to extend the duration of event items such as this to 12/25/24 at 23:59. This way, Maplers can celebrate the holiday decked out in their old Christmas decorations! Nobody wants their Christmas tree to get set on fire on 12/19, right before things are getting good. I do not ask that currently-existing cosmetics have their durations extended, because that might require coding or something. (Though if it's easy to do, then why not?) I am merely asking for future events to consider that players should have their previous years' equips on-hand for each upcoming holiday as it comes. It would be cool, especially since events are always late and none should kid themselves that that is going to change. This is the bare minimum that the suggestion calls for.

    I propose taking it a step further. These items could last until the exact day of next year's iteration of the holiday being celebrated, but it'd even better if they instead last either one month after, one year after, or one year and one month after next year's iteration of the holiday. This may be confusing, so here are some examples of what that would look like, for a reward from Winter 2023:

    * Available until 1/25/2025 at 23:59
    * Available until 12/25/2025 at 23:59
    * Available until 1/25/2026 at 23:59

    :gift1::star::gift2:

    2026 is pretty far out, right? "Come on :brownpoop:Taima:brownpoop:, cash shop equips only last for 90 days, this is too much!"

    It is pretty far out, and some might view this as no more than an excuse to extend an outfit you like out for a long time and shirk your voting responsibilities. But really, think of all the silly-ass cosmetics you spend event points on. Almost nobody is gonna be wearing Christmas wreaths around their face in June. They're going to stash them away until next year! Just like you do in real life with decorations! It's exciting to pull these items back out of storage when the month of your favorite holiday rolls around. We can sort of do that next year, but I know I'm gonna be watching that countdown to cosmetic extinction roll down day by day, knowing that it's not gonna last until the actual holiday it's meant to celebrate.

    A poll has been erected with the options I came up with. Feel free to pick your favorite option or the option closest to what you would choose, to give a suggestion on what else should be done, or to ignore it entirely.

    The whole thing is rather silly, isn't it? Let's give event cosmetics a longer expiration date. Let's enjoy them for just a little while longer: the same holiday next year, or even two years later! MapleF14

    (Consider the other suggestions too! I don't agree with paywalling the event equipment, but if they're available at all, I wouldn't complain.)

    A Suggestion Update, and a Plea for Cosmetics to Actually Exist on their Holiday

    The first post may have been too dense for some readers, so let's sum it up: event cosmetic expiration dates should AT LEAST last until the actual holiday they are meant to celebrate.

    Once again Maplers, I bring grave news.

    Feb TWELVE 2025

    :heartbreak:

    It's happened again. My fellow Maplers, right under our noses, where the poison brace bubbles drip; behind our backsides, where the poison mists linger; the Game Masters plot and plan, ruining our hopes to wear cute holiday-themed items on the date of the actual holiday being celebrated. Now, while the cosmetics will last until after Lunar New Year 2025, Valentine's Day is being snubbed. Why you gotta make it like this, GMs? An extra two days before expiration wouldn't break the game. They could last forever, and literally no game balance would be upset for anyone. Please let these items last longer, or work out an update timeline that allows updates to come out before the date of the holiday, or both! This is my desperate, cringe-laden plea from a Mapler that loves holiday-themed junk.

    Should this continue, holiday-themed items will NEVER exist on their holiday date. This is not how things are meant to be. I envision a brighter future for cosmetics and for all Maple gamers that wear them.

    A simple fix could be applied in future patches, allowing future iterations of Valentine's Day items to actually last until at least February 14th (23:59) of the following year. This way, the couples of MapleLegends can enjoy being decked out in frilly pink romance gear on this most heavily commercialized romantic holiday.

    I have a question about this - since some of the regular Event cosmetics are readded to the pool of the next year, if Event cosmetics lasted, say, 12 months, people might find a cosmetics pool with some items they already own.

    Would that be an acceptable issue?

    Instead of moving the expiry dates or patches to match the holiday, what if we move the holiday to match the patch?

    Yes. The worst that can happen is someone forgetting to purchase an equipment because they think they own it which is entirely PSI.

    Will mark this as accepted and implement the current top choice from the poll - starting from the next event (Anniversary), cosmetics will last for 12 months, instead of 11, counting from the event end date. Thanks for the suggestion!

    I'm afraid this cannot be done, as I wouldn't be allowed to take summer holidays mid-September.
