Welcome to the client patch notes of August 2022.

Our new client, version 1.13.0, brings QoL changes, support for some of the incoming balance changes, and some extra features that will be exploited more in-depth later this year.

Do note this thread in particular is about the client changes only.

    Revamped support

Our error logging system, which is supposed to give us the relevant information to analyze and debug client-side issues, didn't always hit the mark, sometimes providing either too much or too little data for us to investigate.
We have reworked the way logs are printed; while most of the details are not interesting, from a player's perspective, the most noticeable difference for you is that the logs file name is now mlerror.log (still included in the Crash Logs folder). The old HEAPException.log is no longer relevant and can be deleted at will.

    Bugfixes

The Screenshots folder is now once again automatically created, upon booting up the client. This prevents the issue where screenshots were not created at all when the said folder didn't exist.

    UI changes

This patch comes with two main UI changes, both of which are aimed at improving the availability of information and its organization.

    Character Stats:

The Hands value, in the stats UI, will now be replaced by Critical Rate and Critical Damage information.
This addition replaces virtually useless data with more interesting values; much like the rest, the Crit numbers are highlighted in red when higher than their base values, to better display impactful changes.
The crit values take into account passive buffs (Critical Shot, Critical Throw) as well as active buffs (Sharp Eyes); due to its value depending on external factors, Pirate's Stun Mastery is instead not included in the crit data display.
    [IMG] [IMG]

    Multiline Buffs:

Certain buffs, that don't require player interaction, are now displayed in a second line, under the more attention-needing buffs that still populate the original topmost line.
We decided to split the two categories in order to ease the potential visual clutter that comes from mixing buff icons of different nature, hopefully making it easier to notice when an important buff is about to expire.
The following buffs will now appear on the second line:
    • Monster Rider
    • Battleship
    • Beholder's passive buffs
    • Assassinate charging timer
Please let us know if you have any suggestions about possible additions!

    More Chair Reworks

While the added support for Chair randomization and for player positional change were good achievements, our journey towards the perfect Chair is far from over.
The latest addition to our arsenal is the support for two-layered Chairs, which opens the door to fixing some beautiful designs that, due to that technical lack, were implemented in a rather "flat" way.
The new second Chair layer will include all the details that should be on top of the character, while the original layer will be the one behind.
Should you encounter Chairs that now appear misplaced or incorrectly drawn, please report them to us in this thread

    Bouncing Platforms

Map springs are a feature that was introduced after v62, which means that we never got to enjoy those big juicy jumps. Until now.
Although content with them has not been implemented yet (will be coming in future events and releases), fixed and custom* spring-like portals are now fully supported by our client.
*Much like the original version, MapleLegends will correctly support both springs with fixed velocity, and springs with custom values by us.

    Updated Pet Support

We have two updates for our lovely Pets!

    "Any Pet" quests:

Certain quests are supposed to be available to every Pet in the game, such as Bartos' multi-pet quest, or Kenta's pet speed quest.
Due to the way they were originally coded, constantly adding all the new pets to each of these quests was a thing that we left behind for too long, to the point where most of our new pets could not benefit from the extra abilities, short of starting the quests via workarounds (like bringing an old "mule pet" that the quest would support, to trigger it).
We have now implemented a way for these quests to simply recognize the presence of any pet as the start/completing condition, thus enabling all present and future pets without the need for extra support.
    The following quests are affected:
    • Fanzy the Mysterious Cat
    • Fanzy the Amusing Cat
    • Kenta's Advice
    • Pet Instructor Test
    • The Secret Method
    Climbing Companions:

We recently introduced a change that allows player's walking speed to affect their climbing speed; while it was a great change, we soon found out that pets had a separate speed calculation, that, because of not having been altered, caused them to not match the new player speed, thus jumping off ladders and ropes before the intended length.
With this patch, pets will now correctly match the player's climbing speed, no longer feeling the need to yeet themselves into oblivion.

    Gameplay Changes

This patch introduced some Class-related changes, and general Balance changes, that required clientside support to be achieved.

    Skill changes: Berserk, Assassinate

The new Berserk scaling required its clientside calculations to be redesigned, and the function to be correctly implemented.
Similarly, Assassinate's new design is accompanied by various changes in its code: the removal of Dark Sight requirement (while still maintaining its availability, for the Charged bonuses), the implementation of the "reverse blinking" effect for Assassinate:Charging condition, the defense-ignoring feature of Assassinate:Charged buff.

Balance changes: directional and unavoidable attacks

The idea of Boss attacks that cannot be dodged by a player is our latest exploration in new design mechanics and is now implemented only for Pink Bean's falling musical notes attack.
Introducing such a mechanic required new clientside properties for skills.
Additionally, a bug that prevented Pink Bean notes attack from casting on both sides has been corrected.

In order to do all these changes, and in support for future possible damage formula changes, we polished and restructured various algorithms related to player attack and defense. Please note that no changes, aside from the ones listed here, are implemented (yet)!

    Minor and Upcoming Changes

The last noteworthy client change in this patch is related to Aufheben Circlet.
Because it cannot be scrolled with White Scrolls support, both regular scrolling and Legendary Spirit scrolling of the Circlet will not allow the usage of WS.

Finally, a few additional features are already being developed for the next patches.
One of them, which we already hinted at, is the flying ability (which would be relevant in Aufheben fight, although it didn't quite make it yet); as for the rest, while we won't give out any detail yet, certain popular suggestions are being explored and tested behind the scenes, hopefully being ready for production in the coming months.

    Thank you!

Your continuous support and passion for our server is what drive us to keep breaking any limits, pushing our features to the best of our abilities, and learning a lot in the process.

Thank you for sticking with us, and we wish you lots of fun with our new content!

A lot of these changes are really cool. I was wondering what happened to the screenshot folder since I couldn't get Geo's Monsterbook GUI to work right, glad to see that was fixed. The character stats thing is pretty cool. I never really understood what the "Hands" part of stats would do to begin with. Bouncing plats will be fun to deal with and make me rage during events/quests I'm sure. Always looking forward towards hard times in the future...
    It's a future me problem
