Don't Host Events With An Unannounced Length of Time/Reward

I'm sure theres a number of people here who had fun with the recent Maple Invasion Event, but I'm also quite certain there's a shit ton of people who are INFURIATED because the event was frankly... dogshit.

Imagine hosting an event dragging Maplers around the world for over 2 and a half hours and then when you spam kill/stun them with Auf and Pink Bean and giving players nothing who participated. Not to mention the people LOSING EXP when dying when GMs told them to put away their safety charms and that they wouldn't lose EXP and dying and the hundreds of potions burned for the people who stuck through the whole thing. Well to a lot of people, that's not fun. That's more equivalent to receiving a fat "Fuck You" from the GMs.

And it really does feel like a giant "Fuck You" because the GMs know that if players knew there would be NO reward for a 2.5 hour event, people wouldn't show up. So frankly it seems that the GMs intentionally chose not to say shit to people just to get them to participate.

The worst part is, for the final stage in Leafre, the GM called for ALL adventurers. Not people over level 150. All adventurers. You know what that implies? If you were previously unable to participate in the event content up to level 150, you can come to Leafre for the final one. And the only way that makes any sense, is if you get a reward for sticking through to it. So what happens? Those people 120 or 130 or 140 come in and get fucked over and over again on respawn, not even able to touch the enemies, or see what theyre trying to hit, lose EXP, potions, and are just frustrated the entire time.


There is a clear (even if unstated) expectation of a reward for many players when they participate in a GM event, they get a reward. JQ event? Finish it. Get a Secret Spell scroll.

Most people don't have or don't want to spend 2.5 hours to spend on an event. People in Europe are sleeping and those staying up late got fed a giant steamy cup of shit after all this. Other people have obligations, other plans. Other people would rather do OTHER things in MapleLegends than participate in this event if they knew how bad it was. But because even though people didn't know what they were in for, they were still generous enough with their time to participate in the event because they thought they might get something out of it other than rank frustration.

For other GM events you can tell people whether or not the event may or may not be worth their time given the compensation. For this event, I can tell you that you were 100% better off ignoring it unless youre a masochist. (Inb4 "its just for fun". What's fun for you isn't fun for other people, so don't go telling people they should just enjoy shit. Inb4 "You didn't have to participate" . When you break down that logic, it really is just another way of saying "the event is actually shit")

You wanna host a Maple Invasion event? Fine. Keep it at an hour. You want to throw in Pink Bean or whatever shitshow? Fine. But don't keep people waiting 2 hours for it and tell them whats coming. You want to *host a 2 and a half hour event*? Fine. At least tell people what they're in for and whether they will get something out of it or not.

And for fuck's sake, the asshole rushing Pink Bean left and right over and over again in Leafre should forget where their phone is every time they take their eyes off it.

If I'm being brutally honest, whoever decided this was a good idea should not be allowed to be a GM anymore, because for the first time ever in the many events in any Maple server I have ever participated in, it felt like the GM was telling me to go fuck myself.

 

Well "temper tantrums" might be an accurate representation of how a good number of people feel about the event.

And well I did express actionable feedback. Just be transparent. If GMs want to feel bad about themselves after giving what feels like a middle finger to a LOT of people, that's their problem. But at least they have something they can work with.

Anyways, here is a bit of a recap of how negative of an experience this was for a lot of people. Imagine what theyre saying in party or guild/alliance chat.
