That’s what I’m commenting on since the narrative of this suggestion is that it’s the systems fault this happened. I don’t think it’s the fault of the system or even the buyer. More posts have popped up talking about taking away responsibility from players, while I think it’s good as is and it should be handled by the community instead of built in systems. This does seem like abusing a system on the buyers end, but at the same time the notice is a luxury which tells you something which I think most people agree on is self-evident.

It is not in good faith and the buyer is a piece of :poop:.

I barely know what this means, but if I sell something for way less than what it is worth, it is indeed my fault for not price checking. This applies to the game, in real life, for things I’m knowledgable about and things I know nothing about.

I’m not, because I don’t mind this suggestion and I am not trying to have the notice removed. I just think it’s unnecessary to begin with and if it doesn’t show it still cannot be blamed for a person being lowballed.

Not sure what this adds. I think I am pretty reasonable even if I can also see points where people might not agree with me and that is fine. Not trying to be mean, I just think the victim is also the person who could’ve prevented it to begin with and stuff like that happens sadly. Do I have to say sorry for not agreeing 1 to 1 with your opinion?

These are community made, not systems in the game and fit in with my view of the community having to deal with things like this. If I were against guides or owlrepo, I would be against players helping each other in general which is stupid lol.

Sure, but let the community decide by obliterating their social credit for being scumbags.

You’re still attributing your own hindsight mentality. Yes, nobody is forcing people to make trades, but conscientiously misinforming people is generally understood to be a bad thing for this small community.

Imagine how shit the community would be if people started misguiding people on how to wash for their own benefit.

I agree in general, but obliterating social credit isn't practical because of how muleable the scummy behaviour is... There really is no recourse on the community scale, I think. Only prevention.
The domain of recourse seems firmly in staff's hands.

YES exactly! to you it seems "self evident" that WS/CS is super valuable. But for a new player it's not. You only THINK it's "self evident" because you've been playing for a long time. So the notification is there to help the new player, but even though you claim to be agreeing to the post, you say "it's not even necessary." So if we do get rid of it, (or enable buyers to get rid of it by spam trading/requesting) then yes, you are arguing to make new player exerpience more prone to getting scammed, which i would say would hurt their experience.

When kids/elderly get scammed in real life, we don't just just say "it's your fault for getting scammed, get good, we don't need to do anything you just have to learn to not get scammed". That's exactly victim blaming. blaming the victim instead of the person doing the scamming. Probably better if you just look up the term if you don't know about it.

I went too far on "thought better about you" so im sorry about that

I'm the person who got scammed. I agree I was probably too quick to sell but I honestly thought the dude was just being friendly and showing me how to convert the item and then he said he'd buy it i asked what the value was of it. Not "what will you pay for it" I said "what is the going value" and he said the pouch 5 average value is 80mil. The thing is I had gotten tired of having to look up every single item I came across and just wanted to play the game, this was also before i knew of owlrepo so even when I did try to look stuff up I would rarely find definite answers and for many items I wasn't getting responses from real players. So I decided to stop bothering people with price checks and decided to trust this person who seemed to be helping me at first glance. it wasn't until after I get the message AFTER the trade finished saying I needed to look this item up because it was valuable. He clearly was trying to hide the that message from me and succeeded and that's when I did decide to do more research on it. If I had actually gotten the message It's this mentality that new players should just know these things, and the fact that I was afraid to even say the dudes name cause people were coming at me with this "accusation ban" policy. Honestly the thing that annoyed me more than anything out of this situation is that a few people talked down to me as if I was the bad actor for not knowing better and not the one being intentionally deceitful. I will say the GM's i've talked to were very friendly and helpful, especially Nightz, but there are a few people in this community that seem to hide behind technicalities and bad faith arguments.

Wait so you're saying there are some players who starts and gets chaos/white and they don't care about selling for 80m because they don't plan to play this for long. So, my question is: why are you worried about them, if they actually don't give a shit about it?

Kimmy is right imo. Scamming is different of lowballing. Offering 80m for a 250m item shouldn't be prohibited. Saying an item costs 80m when it actually costs 250m, maybe should. But still hard to say that was intentional. I can't believe that in 2024 in a MMORPG game people are still accepting random deals and getting mad with this. We got free owls, we play a 20 years old game, c'mon. You already get a green note after you get an yellow line, isn't that enough? Why the fuck you guys want the staff to be controlling silly things?

Everytime people is asking the staff to keep this strange habit (that they already have) of taking care of 30 year old babies zzzzzzzzzzzZZZzzzZzzZZ

The entire point of this thread is that they didn't get the green note.

Again, you’re trying to rationalize behavior with the hindsight knowledge of an experienced player. You mention things like owling, or asking around in guild, or having a the ‘common sense’ or wherewithal to know what’s right or wrong. That’s one hell of an assumption and it’s the wrong one. Case in point, you can read the post above directly from the victim for context.

We don’t want staff to be intervening, but a general acknowledgment that this kind of behavior is unwanted would be a nice start. We as a community should be able to reprimand people for toxic behavior. Current ToS doesn’t allow for it, but staff seems to be willing to go after those edge cases rather than focusing their energy on preserving good behavior. Seems ass backwards to me.

I think we should move on from discussing "lowballing" being bannable because it's really hard to enforce and its a whole can of worm. It seems like we're arguing about that over and over when the point of this thread is no longer even that.

What we should focus is 1) blocking notification from coming up by spam requesting/trading (as per title of thread) and maybe even 2) telling the seller that the average price of pouch5 is 80mil like it's true (as per seller's story)

If you want to continue to laugh at people that got scammed, you do you, but i don't want any part of that.

edit: also, to a new player, 80mil IS A SHIT TON of mesos. but so is losing out on potential 240mil. it's all relative, how are inexperienced players supposed to know when the buyer is being friendly and giving misinformation (wait am I describing a classic conman? are we really defending conman here)

Is it against ToS if I give people bad advice intentionally because I find it funny?

I didn't answer the OP. I answered things ovv said. I agree that the intention to block the green note is something wrong, but still not bannable offense because it's hard to judge. I just can't imagine a situation where I get something good in a game and receive a million messages and invitations and I don't suspect that something is wrong.

I read it, I feel sorry for the guy. I would never do that and I don't like this kind of behavior. But it's just UNCONTROLLABLE. Staff shouldn't be following players preventing them to drop their 100% Eye acc for INT, or NPCing their brand new BWGS/Yellow Marker. They need to care about their stuff and learn how to play the game.

It's not a hindsight perspective. I did a lot of mistakes when I started, but I learned with them. That's how games work lol. My english is poor, the guides were all outdateds and the amount of information was different. So what? It's not a ToS issue.

By the way, how would you draw that line? How many trade solicitations with someone who got an yellow line will be considered an abuse? Or how much will be enough to be considered a lowball offer? What about people who makes money by buy cheap things and selling them expensive? Should they @gm when they see something selling way cheaper than "MARKET PRICE"?

When exactly did I say I was laughing about them? If you think I'm that kind of player, you really don't know me. I just don't see why you need the staff to control this.

Idk man but the way I laugh is a bit different of this, idk how you do it. And actually I wasn't referring to the person who lost some millions.

I bet the guy is in much better situation after what happened. I'm sure he will make a mule to buy owls for every single item he gets after this.

This is quite literally hindsight mentality. You’re justifying the current way of things by using your past experiences as a baseline when things can be made better.

Also, I don’t know what you’re even referring to when mentioning staff intervention. I never mentioned anything about staff besides the notion that they should have a public stance against players scamming new players. I never said anything about implementation. Id rather the stick be passed to the community so that we can make fun of scumbag greedy behavior.

Id be okay with blacklisting known scammers from end game content.

To the people saying it doesn't make sense to punish someone for lying and trying to take advantage of new players, maybe not, but it makes even less sense to have the threat of punishment loom over someone for "accusing" this person of doing the very thing they did.

i guess it's too much to ask "30 year old babies" to not laugh at people losing 100s of millions of mesos, never mind the discussion and technicalities aside. we can have this discussion without having to making fun of people losing out on millions.

edit: to be fair i wasnt the most mature in the discussion either so xd sorry
