Macintosh can't open latest mac client

I am having this same issue, but my Mac is on Sierra, so if anyone can shed light on this situation it is much appreciated!

 

Try going into Wineskin (right-click the MapleLegends application > Show Package Contents > Wineskin > Set Screen Options) and setting the window system to "Mac Driver" instead of "X11." You don't have to click "Retina Mode."

Have you tried setting your resolution to 800 x 600 first?

1. Find your MapleLegends application
2. Right-click "Show Package Contents"
3. Go to Drive_C > Neckson > MapleLegendsHD
4. Open Legends.ini and change 'HDClient = true' to 'HDClient = false' (for this part, use "TextEdit" to open the file)
5. Back in the MapleLegends application folder (after you click "Show Package Contents"), open Wineskin
6. Click "Set Screen Options"
7. Set your virtual desktop size to 800 x 600

Hello, I have the exact same issue. The XQuartz file seems to open up for a few second and closes itself every time I tried to run the client. I've tried both of the method stated above and unfortunately they still do not work. Is this happening to all of the other Mac users as well?

Have you guys tried refreshing the wrapper in-use?

Yep, tried refreshing the wrapper, but the black screen just pops up for a while, then closes.

 

Below are the methods that I've tried:
- Modified ClientHD = false
- Set Screen Options => Window System: X11 => Resolution: 800x600 (xQuartz pop up for only a few seconds when I tried to run the client)
- Set Screen Options => Window System: Mac Driver (Nothing happened when I tried to run the client)
- Refresh Wrappers on both of the Window System options (Yielded the same results as mentioned above)
- Delete MapleLegends, re-download the files through the Mirror option and tried everything listed above. (Same results)

I had similar experience with the most recent summer event as well, I was unable to open MapleLegends until the third day of the release of the event (I was on the verge of quitting the game that day, but it somehow worked that day). One of my buddy (also a Mac user) from ML actually quitted the game when the summer event was released due to the same reason I had. I do not have a large sample size of data to know what is the percentage of Mac users are having these issues every big patch, but I have a feeling that the number of active Mac players in this community will continue to drop or remain the same if this continues to happen. This is just my input.

 

Hello. I've been having the same issue. Tried just about everything but nothing was working.
The window will open, black screen, then the window will just close again.
But I tried refreshing the wrapper and it suddenly worked.
This is the following setup I have:
1. Modified ClientHD= false
2. Set Screen Option = Mac Driver (800x600)
3. Everything UNCHECKED in wine Advanced settings (so all the boxes should not be checked)
4. Refresh Wrappers.
Either double click the app or try right click > open
Not sure if this will work for everyone but it magically worked for me :/

I got a new macbook and maple legends isn't working on it. Bumping this

 

TL;DR Fixes For Mac

Client not showing anything when double clicking
Refresh the wineskin wrapper. Steps are shown in forum and in #announcements

Try toggling wine to use Mac Driver or X11. (Personally my laptop dies when using Mac Driver but others have had success using it)

Client crashes upon logging in / character select
Change client to not be using HDClient
Right click on MapleLegends > Show Package Contents > drive_c > Neckson > MapleLegendsHD > Legends.ini
In Legends.ini you change HDClient = true to HDClient = false
In Wineskin set the Windowed size to 800x600.
Have it in Windowed mode when logging in (even with double screen).

These worked for me but just try them all to get them to work I guess. MapleStory isn't meant to work on Mac and is a 10 year old PC game, macOS is also notoriously difficult to get PC stuff running on. Several popular private servers haven't even attempted a Mac port so I really appreciate the ML staff for taking the time to do this for us.

 

I agree. The fact that somebody made a Mac client for free...in their own spare time...is frankly amazing. It's unfortunate that the Mac client isn't working for some people, but troubleshooting why a Windows game isn't working on macOS/OSX isn't exactly a simple process. The staff may already be trying to figure out why it isn't working for some people, they just don't have any conclusive answers yet. It takes time to figure these things out.

 

I have encountered the same issue and fix it by the following. Hope this works for you!

Opens a terminal and execute the below

sudo chown -R <mac username> /Applications/MapleLegends.app/Contents/Resources/

<mac username> can be found by typing whoami in the terminal

 

Are there any official solutions to Mac nothing showing after double clicking the application?

I have tried 1) In Legends.ini you change HDClient = true to HDClient = false
2) Refresh the wineskin wrapper
But they didn't seem to have helped.

My version is Mojave 10.14.6

 

By the way, for some reason my Wineskin doesn't have the option to toggle between Mac Driver and X11 - is this normal?
