    Christmas 2021 Patch Notes
    Hello Legends,

To end the year we have a lot of fixes that we had ready since Halloween if not earlier. We hope you'll enjoy it. It's possible we forgot to list things, which mean we edit it over time and add it as a reply on this thread. As always we still have a lot we are working on, and we thank you for your patience!

Note: Please click on the "Detailed explanations" spoilers to get information about the changes

    [IMG] Client Changes [IMG]
    • No longer need to run as administrator
    • Interactions with NPC's and quest notifications have been changed to v0.67+ behaviour and more
    • Chairs have been upgraded to support the newer features from Big Bang
    • Updated our spam reduction from repetitive messages feature
    Administrator privileges changes

Starting this patch MapleLegends no longer has to be run as Administrator. While this is a requirement even in vanilla MapleStory, people are starting to get more and more careful when it comes to the things they run on their computers, which is a good thing.

Although we are officially whitelisted from Microsoft, users using other 3rd party Anti-virus software may still get hit by potential malware warnings.

It's quite common sense that you do not run programs as Administrator that you do not trust, since they can pull quite nasty things on you. Hopefully, with this change, more fear and concerns can be prevented.

Note: Since the game registry is now stored somewhere that does not require Administrator privileges to write on, any existing registry will no longer work.

Settings such as your auto pet HP, BGM, Login ID save and so on are completely reset. This will only occur once, and it will save correctly again after you applied it again

This change also lets you play the game at work if you do not have an account with administrator privileges from now on. Play at own risk - we are not responsible ;)

Interactions with NPC's and quest notifications have been changed to v0.67+ behaviour

With this patch, you now only have to click once on an NPC to talk with them. While I personally did not mind the double-clicking, it became a norm for users that play often in v0.83 unofficial servers, where single clicking have already been implemented.

While implementing this, we also researched how this exactly works. It seems Neckson implemented single-clicking for NPC's, as well as quest notifications, but nothing else.

We've decided to tweak this feature and make single-clicking also be a thing for merchant shops. This will hopefully make non-owl users have a much easier time, since they only have to click each shop they visit once, instead of twice in quick succession.

This also speeds up the delay you have when trying to click on NPC's, since they now respond when you click once, instead of clicking twice like before, which takes more time.

All "Double click" images have been replaced with the "click" image.

If you got any suggestions for any interaction you feel could be tweaked from double-click to single-click let us know!

Chairs have been upgraded to support the newer features from Big Bang

Chairs received a massive update, and now fully support the possibility to alter your character coordinate when sitting on one, like in modern MapleStory. We've fixed a buttload of chairs, on top of updating the ones using this feature.

Do note that the character positioning changes are purely visual, which we have done intentionally so this cannot be used for any potential hitbox related abuse.

With the feature coded, we are able to import way more chairs with their authentic visuals than ever before.

If there's any chair missing that is supposed to alter your character but currently does not after this patch please let us know!

As far as I know, we are the very first v0.62 server to ever implemented this, so we hope you'll enjoy it!

Improvements to our feature that reduces spam from repetitive messages.

We've received a lot of positive feedback when it comes to this feature, which reduces spammy messages from flooding your chat and instead only allows it to happen every couple of seconds.

After feedback, we've also implemented this for the following messages:
    - You may not use the skill yet.
    - Unavailable while transforming. Please right-click the icon at the top right corner to cancel the transformation.
    - Not available during the ride.
    - Not available while riding on the tamed monster.
    - You cannot use this skill with the weapon you're equipped with.
    - You have used up all of your arrows.
    - You have used up all of your throwing stars.
    - You have used up all of your bullets

If you got further suggestions please let us know.

We've fixed a lot of bugs related to the client as well this patch, which hopefully makes the game more polished once again.

    [IMG] Client Bug Fixes [IMG]
    • Party invitation popups properly expire after timeout
    • Infamous Puppet and hypnotize crash fixed for good
    • Multiple statusbar related fixes applied
    • Minimap, quest helper and such menus now stay saved in higher resolution
    • Running out of MP pots from a pet no longer floods your chat
    • Fixed a visual issue related to long NPC names
Party popup properly expire after a timeout

When someone requests a party invite, and the person does not respond, the invite disappears after 3 minutes or so. Normally, the client is supposed to send a packet to tell the server they were too busy responding to the request, which is basically a 'no' for the requester.

This doesn't happen in v0.62 (unconfirmed when fixed), so the server will forever think the person still has a request open, and can't receive new requests. This was known in the community as the nasty 'party bug' where the bugged person had to CC for it to fix itself, which in some places is not possible, so you are screwed.

This was the bug and the reason for the bug. It should now be completely fixed.

The infamous Puppet and hypnotize crash fixed for good.

In the previous patch we implemented a patch that was supposed to fix the Puppet and Hypnotize crashes. This was implemented correctly. However, it turns out we had to apply the very same fix for jumping mobs and flying mobs, but had only previously applied it to regular mobs.

This is now done, and it should be fixed for good.

Let us know if it still occurs even after this patch.

Multiple status bar related fixes have been applied

For those that don't know, the status bar is the bottom bar where your HP, name and all that is at.

There were some quite specific issues that were going on with it, which sometimes caused you to be unable to click on NPC's, or on players themselves on specific angles.

All those issues should be addressed and fixed, which includes one related to the quickslot UI itself.

Also, the chat type toggle has been put a bit higher, which fixes an issue where you can't handle the toggle by single-clicking. This is a bug Neckson introduced when they added the alliance and spouse chat because they never re-positioned the chat toggle menu.

    This is now fixed:

Minimap, quest helper and such menus now stay saved in higher resolution

An admittedly annoying issue we still had with higher resolution MapleLegends was that when you've moved your minimap, quest helper, and other UI related menus outside the original 800x600 boundaries, it would reset again on the next client bootup.

Neckson created "safety" checks for UI windows, in case you get it stuck outside your screen. If you did so, the game snaps them back on the next client bootup, so you are not forever screwed.

This safety check would occur each time on the higher resolution because the boundaries were still stuck on 800x600. This is now fixed so the proper safety check boundaries are applied for each resolution change, which will no longer constantly reset the UI windows back to their 800x600 position.

Running out of MP pots from a pet no longer floods your chat

In every version of pre-big bang there's an issue where if you've applied auto MP on a pet, and you run out of them, the game runs the check every frame, which not only floods your chat with the string every single frame, but it also starts to lag your game.

We've implemented a fix that will immediately stop the flooding as soon the message happened once, by unequipping the existing pot from the pet UI.

Remember to re-equip the pot once you've obtained new ones.

Fixed a visual issue related to long NPC names

In all versions of pre-big bang (not sure if fixed in big bang) there's a display issue with long NPC names when interacting with them. We've fixed that for this patch

    [IMG] Server Related Changes [IMG]
    • Completely re-coded the way NPC scripts are handled
    • New visual appearances for Stimulators
    • New visual appearances for scrolls based on the item type
    • Neo Tokyo mob name improvements
Completely re-coded the way NPC scripts are handled

When it comes to MapleLegends, the way we did NPC scripts was still quite traditional and in line with Odin based servers.

After this patch, we'll be experimenting with a new, completely stateless scripting system, which not only makes future scripts much easier and quicker to code but should also improve performance in general.

We currently have the new scripting system applied for our Christmas Event NPC's. If all goes well, we'll slowly convert all our existing scripts to this new system.

New visual appearances for scrolls based on the item type

Ever been annoyed with how you have to hover with your mouse over every single scroll in your inventory until you get to the item you want? A couple of years ago we've made changes to Mastery Scrolls where the skill icon appears on the drop itself, compared to a generic book icon in vanilla v0.62. We've made a similar, but not identical approach for the Scrolls now.

We hope this makes finding scrolls a little bit easier. The same has been applied for Scroll manuals as well.

    New visual appearances for stimulators

Not only do scrolls get a new makeover, but stimulators as well. Stimulators now are coloured by job, and global types such as Shoes, Helmets, and Gloves remain their original appearance.

    Red - Warrior
    Blue - Mage
    Green - Archer
    Black - Thief
    Yellow - Pirates
Purple with an orange top - The rest

    Neo Tokyo mob name improvements

When we added Neo Tokyo, we based it around the MapleSEA versions. The problem with MapleSEA is that they were notorious for using the "beta" names for mobs, jobs, as well as bosses.

What is a beta name? Often when GMS has unreleased content, it's either in Korean or very poorly translated into English. MapleSEA often keeps the "poorly translated" names, which is very strange.

For example, in the early GMS pre-HT release, Horntail is named Horned Tail. In MapleSEA, they kept the name, even in their patch notes.

A similar situation happened for pirates. In GMS v0.56~v0.61 Pirates were in the data files, but unreleased with an earlier name. Then in v0.62 they got changed and released. MapleSEA kept using the early names. If you ever wondered why Pirates had different names in MapleSEA, this is why.

Lastly, in GMS before Night Lord was released, they were named Night Road. This is the best example because it's also part of Neo Tokyo's name problems.

Here are the current names and what they got changed to

    AfterRoad > After Lord
    Overload > Over Lord
    ProtoRoad > Prototype Lord
    Eruwater > Iruvata
    Vergamot > Bergamot
    Nibergen > Nibelung
    Auf Haven > Aufheben

The items and Monster Book information have been updated as well, and on top of that have been completely translated into English with their original Japanese lore thanks to ShinoharaShinohara
