[Guide] Papulatus Pre-Quest

Hi everyone! I couldn't find an easy-to-follow written pre-quest guide for Papulatus, so here's this one.

There's a bunch of reasons why you may want to do this quest, whether that's for unlocking a fourth job skillbook (such as Time Leap, Smokescreen, etc.) or just to fight another boss.

Spoiler: Starting the quest line

Start the quest in Ludibrium's Path of Time (down the clocktower in the middle of town) by talking to Mr. Bouffon and accepting his "Protect Ludibrium" quest.

He's going to ask you to collect 10 Tachions

which are dropped as a quest item from mobs in the portal on either side of him:

You can only see these untradeable ETCs if you have the quest activated.

Spoiler: Gathering ETCs

From there, he's going to ask you to collect 300 Tachions and 100 Mysterious Powders.

Collect Tachions from the same mob(s) as before. Mysterious Powder is dropped by Master Death Teddies, which you can find at Hidden Street: Lost Time, a portal accessible by Forgotten Path of Time 3 on the right side.

Spoiler: Collecting Cracks

Next, you'll talk to Flo on the left side of the map where you previously spoke with Mr. Bouffon.

He'll ask you to collect three pieces of cracked dimension from either Gigantic Spirit Vikings or Grim Phantom Watches.

Personally, I got all three pieces from the Grim Phantom Watches, which can be found at Hidden Street: Forbidden Time, a portal accessible by Forgotten Path of Time 4 on the right side.

After collecting the A, B, and C pieces of cracked dimension, Flo will give you the Piece of Cracked Dimension needed to summon Papulatus.

Spoiler: Getting the Ludibrium Medal

While you need the Piece of Cracked Dimension to summon Papulatus, you need to acquire the Ludibrium Medal from Mr. Bouffon to even enter the boss map in the first place.

You'll have to get this from the mobs in either Warped Passage (left) or Forgotten Passage (right).

Again, I chose to go on the right side and defeated Thanatos to acquire the medal.

After you have both the Piece of Cracked Dimension and Ludibrium Medal, you're ready to fight Papulatus!

Spoiler: About fighting Papulatus

Once entering the portal in the middle of the map called Deep Inside the Clocktower, you can summon Papulatus by dropping the Piece of Cracked Dimension in the hole on the right side of the map.

People usually try to pin it to the left side since the platforms on the left allow you to avoid its dispels, stuns, and other curses - especially if you're a cleaver (any warrior class, shadower, etc.). If you're a ranged attacker, you should be fine if you keep your distance on the ground.


After the first body (which has more HP at 23M) is defeated, the second body spawns (1.59M HP). Unlike the first body, this body is a lot more nimble and will fly around the map. It also hits higher damage (5.5K) so make sure to be careful.

Once both of these are killed, you'll usually get a bunch of drops, which can include all of these as well as quest items:

Keep in mind that you can only summon Papulatus twice a day, and that you can get a new Piece of Cracked Dimension once every 24 hours. You don't need to keep getting new Ludibrium Medals, so hang onto it.
