Make Axe Viable Again

    In a normal MMO devs would do balance changes to make certain items/skills better though. If you'd play a class that is S tier at point in time it might be a D tier at a later point in time. We are playing on a 2006 private server where no item/skill would recieve a buff or nerf if the players don't actively ask for said buff/nerfs.

    90% of the players in this server didn't ever reach endgame in the real 2006 maplestory anyways and almost noone back then knew the weapon multipliers so axe dmg being seen as bad and being associated with nostalgia is kinda weird.

    The problem seems to be that brandish is always a swing and stab.
    I propose buffing axe's swing damage.
    Having bi-polar damage with weak stabs and strong swings fits the theme.
    Similarly for maces, perhaps.

    It seems like bad game design to have the sword be the most powerful item; the item in common with Hero and Paladin. Really, the exclusive weapons should be sought out for and be most powerful, while the abundance of swords and high accessibility makes only the best ones bubble to the top in viability. This is how they're treated in GMS too.

    I think that this shift would be healthy for the longevity of the game, and that little regard should be put toward those who have invested heavily into existing items pre-balance changes. Hot take.

    Hmm. Since you brought this thread back from the dead, I suppose I will add my opinion as well.

    Stabs and swings should do the same damage for all weapons. Basically, just remove the part of code that modifies damage for stabs vs swings. Problem solved. This would immediately help other weapons too.

    Example:
    1HA: 4.2 (No modifier for stab vs swing)
    2HA: 4.8 (No modifier for stab vs swing)

    Using this, nobody would get nerfed, and the only people who would get a slight buff are suboptimal builds. And they deserve a slight buff.

    Stabbing with an axe or hammer is just we todd ed anyway. But it's a lot easier to just delete/bypass a short section of code than to redo the attack animations.

    I understand how changing a multiple by a few 0.x can seem like a slight buff, but remember that this gets multiplied by all the other stats, weapon attack, skill damages, and attack speeds. It would end up being much more than a "slight buff".

    Honestly, the axes and blunt weapons look cool. Wish they were more widely used for warriors. I am currently making a pally and will def use more blunt/axe weapons when I get to lvl 64 with maple weapons. My journey is starting to begin :D

    Swords are 4.0 for 1H and 4.6 for 2H.
    My axe damage example of 4.2 and 4.8 are about an extra 5% and 4% more damage compared to swords. I think that's fair. But if you think it's too much, just make axe damage equal to swords. Swords would still be better though. Swords tend to be as fast or faster than axes. Either way, axes and hammers need a buff. And staves too.

    staves don't need a buff, they're fine as is

    bw/axe players on the server chose their path knowingly, whether it be due to cost or look of the items. those who knowingly walked down an inefficient path shouldn't ask for a bailout by staff. the reskinning idea seems to have legs however

    also not sure about axe but bw at least currently occupies some niche in the community
